Prologue – A Whole New World

Life. It wasn't all sunshine and roses. It sucked and if you wanted to live a life worthy of creating a legacy, a life worth surviving and a life worth retiring peacefully from, you had to be tough. And I for fucking sure had been.

Man being on your death bed really makes you a damn good philosopher, doesn't it?

I thought after living a life for over 80 years as the richest man on Earth would have made myself immune to surprises, but looks like fate has a little something left for me.

After all there were very few types of people who would let themselves into the bedchambers of someone like me, without so much as a warning, so as the Michael Gambon lookalike strolls into my room, I can only raise an eyebrow at his casual stride and grandfatherly smile as I lounge in my bed comfortably.

He wasn't an assassin, that much was obvious. Not because of his age, no no. He showed no subtlety at all as he just walked in through the front door. Plus, I was already ready to depart so there is no point in sending assassins after me now. But there was something about the man. Something that radiated power. Something that made me feel at peace, but also issued a warning in my mind that crossing this being would result in a fate much worse than demise.

"About time, what took you so long?" I ask with a grunt, making him pause mid-step, blinking in confusion at my tone.

"Oh? You were expecting me?" he asks, his tone incredibly smooth as his smile widens, lighting up his face.

"You are Death, aren't you? There have been many moments in my life where I have felt that you would be coming to reap me, but better late than never, I guess. Go on, do your thing. I have no demons left and I am ready to leave," I scoff, not that I mind the delay. I had lived an extremely fulfilling life throughout my time here, according to me at least.

As he chuckles just like Dumbledore would, he takes a seat beside me, giving me a genuine smile.

"Well, you aren't entirely wrong but you're not right either. While being the God of Death is certainly a part of my job, that is not what I am here for today. I have an offer for you, Adam Johnson," he admits, his chuckling coming to a halt as he looks me dead in the eye, a weird twinkle shining in his eyes. "Oh, I knew you'd be fun."

"Then you have me at a disadvantage, because if you're not here to drag me to the afterlife, I haven't got a clue what you want," I admit, scratching my gray beard. "Plus, an offer to someone on his death bed? Are you sure you are a God?"

"Allow me to introduce myself first, my dear. I am what you may call the overseer of your multiverse. There are quite a few others like me and all of us manage the vast unknown as our day jobs. But let's not bore you with these details. What I need from you, is your participation in a new program that we are starting," he says, looking at my dumbfounded face as he magically conjures a couple of glasses and a bottle of… liquid rainbow? Must be a godly drink.

Grabbing my glass and taking a sip, enjoying the rush of warmth through my body as he does the same. God damn, that's smooth. I look at him with a questioning gaze. My stare making my intention on listening to his offer in more detail, pretty clear.

"This new program, shall be called The Legion of Entertainers," he elaborated, still sipping his drink. "Beings like me, we have lived for eternity and it becomes quite stale watching people do the same things over and over again. We need some kind of entertainment to keep our motivation levels high as well you know. So, this program was created for this specific reason.

All of us would have the liberty to choose a person we desire and have them reincarnate or transmigrate to another world. A fictional world to be more precise. There, they shall have their own adventures, providing entertainment for the lot of us. Sometime we might even assign quests to them, just to test them.

The task of choosing the first one to be inducted in the Legion fell on my shoulders, and I have decided to choose you my dear friend."

This…was unexpected. I had never anticipated this. Despite the situation, and the weird fact that I remained calm throughout his explanation, only a single question popped in my mind.

"Why me?" I questioned. After all, if he truly was an overseer of the multiverse, he could choose plenty of strong beings instead of someone like me.

His smile widened before he spoke up, "Why not you?! Adam Johnson, a bright child with good parents and a young sister. Father, Steven owned a small company in the textile industry, while mother, Martha was a housewife. As fate would have it, his parents perished in an accident when he was 14, leaving the future of his father's company uncertain. But the vultures underestimated him. He not only took charge of the company and cared for his sister, his innovative ideas, ruthless mind made for business, and genius; took the company to not only new heights, but managed to turn it into an empire that would last for generations. You, my friend, are perfect for the world I plan on sending you in.

The only problem that I have with you is the fact you never enjoyed the finer things in life. Women, adventure, fiction; none of them. The world I am sending you to is ideal for you. You will be able to live your life to the fullest there. So, what do you say, do we have a deal?"

"What happens if I say no?" I questioned. While the offer was certainly tempting, I would like to know what I would be potentially missing out on.

"Oh, well I shall leave you to your vices then. Our encounter will be erased from your memory, and your oblivious soul shall pass onto the afterlife where you will be at peace for eternity."

Hmm, that sounds boring. While I had no qualms with eternal rest, the alternative would not be accepted only by a fool.

"Very well, I accept," I gave him an answer, watching as his smile lit up his face once more.

"Excellent!" he cheered, before standing up and moving a few feet away from me.

"Now allow me to explain what will happen. First, I shall grant you a perk related to a specific attribute that you choose. It shall be maxed out at S+ rank and can never be unchanged. After this we shall spin the wheel of fortune. Cliché, I know. It shall choose a power for you. As a traveller, you will need a power, especially against the foes of the world I am sending you up against. After that power has been chosen, you shall walk through a gate I will create and you will arrive at the desk of a man in a purple robe and blue skin. If your power requires it, he will help you modify it to your needs. Otherwise simply, pass this letter onto him and he shall transmigrate you to your destination. Clear?" he explained.

I nodded my head, even though I was a bit doubtful, but let's see where this goes.

"So, these are your stats currently. Pick an attribute and that shall be maxed out by yours truly, aiding you in your adventure," he spoke up, waving his hand and conjuring an ethereal sheet of energy that listed the following.

Adam Johnson

Level – 100 (Max)

Race – Human

Rank – Mortal

Alignment – True Neutral

HEALTH - F

STR – C

END – D

VIT – D

INT – A+

WIS – S

CHA – A

LCK – A+

"What are these?" I questioned. While in my youth I had played video games, it had been far too long for me to even remember what these meant.

"Simply put, this is the state of your current body. As you can see, your level is maxed out, meaning you have reached the pinnacle of humanity. At least in this world. Your race, rank, and alignment are self-explanatory. Your health is failing as you are near death's door, and it has had an impact on your strength, endurance, and vitality. But your charisma, wisdom, intelligence and luck, factors which are not influenced all that much by your physical condition, remain high as ever. Quite impressive I must say."

"How is charisma not affected by my physical condition?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, but it has been. You see, in your prime, it would have been ranked S. But now it's simply A. And your wisdom and way with words are the sole reasons for it to remain ranked so high. A person can be the ugliest one in the room, but if he has the knowledge, the confidence and the wisdom to sway people with his words, he shall be a charismatic individual," God? explained.

"Pick an attribute now, Adam. While we quite literally have all the time in the world, I would prefer wrapping this up soon, unless you have more questions of course."

"Max out luck for me please," I said, no hesitation evident in my voice.

"Are you sure? That is a very unusual choice?"

"Yes, I am. Luck is the only factor which cannot be actively changed, I could get fitter and develop my physical attributes and sharpen my mind to train my mental ones. But luck, it can never be changed. You are born with it at birth, and it is a big factor that influences your life ahead.

Plus, from the information you have given me, I will have to spin the wheel for a power next. A test which is solely influenced by luck. I need a good power since you have mentioned that the world, I will be going to will have strong foes. This will surely help against them," I explained the reason for my odd choice to him.

He didn't seem surprised. But rather proud. "Excellent choice, Adam! I knew I was right in choosing you. I don't believe many others would have had the same reasoning as you do."

And with that, my Luck went up from A+ to S+ with a snap of his fingers.

"Now, for the big part," he started, before once again waving his hand and conjuring a wheel. This wheel was odd. It had too many sections to even count. I couldn't see shit. I looked at him questioningly, but he simply smiled and told me to spin it.

And so, I did. Hoping my Luck stat would aid me here.

After what felt like an eternity, the wheel finally began to come to a halt. With complete concentration, I watched as it finally came to a stop. The needle at the centre of the wheel, pointing towards a tiny purple space on the wheel.

It suddenly magnified and the wheel disappeared, leaving only floating letters in front of me that described my power.

MULTIVERSAL TRAVEL SYSTEM + SIGNING BONUS

"It seems that raising the luck attribute to S+ rank was simply too much. This… could be a problem," a slightly sheepish voice spoke up from behind me.

As I turned towards him, he was already answering my thoughts, "This particular ability allows you to travel throughout the multiverse, once you reach a certain level of course. No restrictions, no laws barring you. You could independently travel to another world, with all your skills and experiences intact. While this in itself is not a problem, the fact that you have been assigned the signing bonus is what's troubling me. The signing bonus gives the person the choice to reincarnate in a world of their choosing, however, you will not be having that liberty."

Hmm, this could be a problem… to others maybe. But not to me.

"Very well, since you have screwed me over, then shouldn't you be the one to fix it as well? Let me spin it once again. I want that as compensation of not being given the signing bonus," I asked of him. I won't lie I was nervous as fuck, because this being could simply erase me from existence but I had to try.

"Ah! A most wonderful solution, my friend. Here you go," he said, as he conjured the wheel once again, and turned towards it, completely ignoring my dumbfounded look. Was my luck working too well?

Anyway, without dwelling much on it I simply spun it again, and lo and behold, I got a second power.

GET CREATIVE: HEDONIST

"Once again, it seems, like your luck is working too well," God chuckled as he walked towards me, vanishing the wheel as he did so.

"Get Creative allows you to create any skill, power, or anything you want simply by imagination, using your life force as a currency for this. While this may be problematic, the Hedonist variant of this skill grants the user the ability to use LP or Life Points. But it can also be called Lust Points. As long as you indulge yourself in things you find truly pleasurable, you will gain LP. These LP can then be used for your Get Creative power. A truly fascinating and scary combination."

"Yes, but he isn't as lucky as you are making it out to be idiot," a voice spoke up, making both of us jump at the sudden intrusion. When I turned around to see who had interrupted us, my voice got stuck in my throat.

Words escaped me as I lost my mind for just a second. Otherworldly beautiful, exceptionally desirable, the prettiest woman I've ever laid my eyes on, the most beautiful being I've ever seen.

Her beauty was simply incalculable. As a young man, while I had never settled down, I did have a few dalliances with beautiful women. Women who would be hailed as goddesses. But this woman right here, she made them all look like trolls. They stood no chance against her.

Her hair as bright as the sun, with a face of unmatched beauty below it. She was dressed in a lovely black dress which her ample curves poured into. A slit cut down the right dress on one side and showed her gorgeous legs off. The legs covered in fishnet stockings.

"Selene, welcome I suppose. Though you might want to clarify why you are here?" God questioned, the gorgeous lady.

The now named Selene simply replied with, "I am here to see what was taking so long. He was supposed to be with Andramelach by now and on his way to his next adventure. I thought you had it handled but clearly not."

"What do you mean?" I questioned, my voice back, and my tone stern. I have no idea why I sounded like I was the one who should be interrogating her.

"I know what has been going on with your power selection. Its easy for beings like us to know things. And I agree with this one here that you truly have great luck and the skills that have been bestowed upon you shall put you on the path to be the strongest, but when you reincarnate in that world, you will need a power that will protect you. Gathering LP to wish for a power like this would take time. Time you might not have."

Ah makes sense. I simply looked at the male god as he once again looked at me with a sheepish and apologetic gaze. It seems he didn't take this into account.

"Leave it. Before you demand another spin. Allow me to compensate you," she said as she waved her hand. "There, it's been done. When you reach that world and activate your powers, you shall have 5000 LP already. Utilize it wisely."

Huh, a good option. While I would have preferred another go at the spinner, I don't want to go through this again. So, this seems like a good enough alternative.

"Are you ready for your new adventure now, Adam Johnson?" God questioned me, making me realise. Its finally time to go. I had no regrets. I had lived my life and made my legacy. My empire will be managed by my sister and her children now. I could rest easy.

"Yes. Let's do this," I replied, resolute with my words.

God waved his hand and a gate appeared. Selene waved her hands as well, before the gate which was previously a blinding white, turned a lovely shade of red.

"When you walk through this, your body shall be destroyed and your soul transferred to another body. And your journey shall begin. Do not disappoint us," Lady Selene said as she nodded her head at me, motioning me to move through the celestial gate.

With a nod towards both of them, I used the last bit of strength my old bones could manage and walked through the gates of mystery. Disappearing from this world forever.

~ After Adam Walked Through the Gates ~

"You were quite kind to him. Out of character, wouldn't you say?" God questioned Selene as it was finally the two of them in the rather large room together.

"I was. You were right, he does have potential. And there is something about him. I can't put my mind around it, but someday I will solve this mystery. Till then, let's see what kind of life he will have in that world," Selene said, before vanishing from there, a vortex of black petals coming alive around her.

God simply chuckled and vanished in his own show of power, an inferno of blue flames around him. However, before he disappeared, he did say one thing. "Good luck, Adam. You will definitely need it."

~ Back To Adam ~

Alright having your body destroyed, not as fun as Selene made it sound. Rather painful on the other hand. I had no idea how long darkness had been draped over my eyes for now, since I couldn't see shit as a soul.

I was about to curse the gods, thinking all of this must have been unreal when a bright tunnel began appearing in front of me. Now I might be a soul cloud (I think, since I feel quite light and fluffy), who had no idea how to speed up, I just willed my soul to move faster. Useless as it was, it was better than just sitting around.

Soon, I crossed over to the other side of the light. Finally, let's see if I died a senile old man or was I sane till the end.

~ Underworld, DxD world ~

It seems like I was sane enough. I opened my eyes, and I instantly knew I was a lot smaller than before. My body, it ached from pain. But this one was not out of old age. But rather due to being grievously injured. I sat up straight and looked all around me.

I seemed to be in a cave. A ritualistic circle around me, while blood and flesh remained scattered around me as if I was in a war zone. I raised my hand up and looked at it with my own eyes again.

They were quite a bit smaller than I remembered. It seemed like I was a child again. A rather pale child. I touched my body for a bit, seeing that everything was in place or not, and it was thankfully. My arms and legs were extremely sore though. But it seemed like God… ouch.

What the bloody hell was that?!

Why did my head hurt when I thought of God… fuuuuuckkkk!

This pain is unbearable. Why can't I think of the G word? (I am not a masochist. Not going through that pain again!)

Before I could curse again, a screen lit up my view.

Author's Note

You guys might be pretty fucking mad since I have decided to rewrite this story, but I had to. The direction I was taking the story in originally, made me want to puke. Even though I did write a couple of chapters for FSOD, they were simply trash.

So, I decided to take this in another direction. I enjoy gamer stories and self-insert ones. Very few authors write stories of this genre and even if they do, many are trash. Crossedge and Dark Wolf Shiro are probably the only good ones. So, I decided to follow in their footsteps.

The Plot shall be pretty same, but much better this time with a few major changes. I hope you guys like it. My P@tr3on shall always be a chapter or two ahead when it comes to this story. Have made changes to that page of mine as well so do check it out. You won't be disappointed this time.

Advanced Chapter has already been posted.

Link to that one shall be in my bio.

See ya.

I am alive people and trying to make time to give you all good stories to read. But life is fucking me over exactly like it fucks you over too
