1 Forever

It was a Sunday evening in London and Leo and Luke were sitting in Leo's living room playing games. Leo was 15 and fairly tall for his age, he had short blonde hair and his green eyes shone with concentration on the game he was playing against Luke. Luke was Leo's best friend, also 15, he was about average height and slimly built, his brown hair kept short except at the fringe where it grew to just below his eyes, he had dyed his fringe green as it was his favourite colour. Behind the curtain of green hair you can just about make out his reddish-brown eyes, always shining with that look that makes you think he's about to do something mischievous. Luke is quite arrogant at times but, at heart, he is proud to call himself Leo's friend and can be quite protective of Leo at times. Leo's father left when Leo was young and his mum works late to make enough to look after them both, so Luke made it is duty to look after Leo.

It was on this evening that everything changed, they had just finished playing their game and had switched on the TV when an emergency news broadcast lit up the screen.

"This just in," began the news reporter "Reports of a giant meteor flying towards Earth, scientists confirm that if it hits Earth, all life will go extinct. Scientists say that the meteor will hit tonight at midnight."

"What!" shouted Leo, "The world's going to end!?"

"Calm down" said Luke, "The scientists are probably wrong."

"But what if they aren't? What if they are right and we are all going to die? I've got to find my mum, I have to see her!"

"Leo, stop panicking. Scientists can't even predict the weather correctly, what makes you think they can predict the end of the world?"

Just then there was a thud from outside, Leo and Luke looked out of the window and saw a crow lying dead on the patio.

"Look Luke, a dead crow, that's the first sign of the end of the world, I read it in a book. The first sign of the apocalypse is crows dropping dead," said Leo "I told you the end of the world is coming, now, I'm going to go find my mum. I have to let her know what is going on!"

"Leo, that crow dying is just a coincidence. Where is that book about the world ending? I want to see it".

Leo fetched the book from his room and gave it to Luke, he took the book and threw the book onto the roaring fire in the fireplace.

"Why did you do that!?" cried Leo

"To stop you worrying about this so-called end of the world. You've read that book so many times that you've become paranoid" said Luke

"That book had ways to survive the apocalypse in it, it could've helped us!" yelled Leo, having one of his rare moments of rage, his temper was quickly followed by Luke's, whose temper was never far from the surface.

"This is what I mean, if a meteor hits the Earth, nothing could save us! That book would have been useless anyway!" yelled Luke

"Get out! Get out of my house!" cried Leo, "I don't want the last thing for me to see to be your face!".

"Fine. I'll leave" said Luke, grabbing his stuff and storming out the front door, slamming it behind him.

Leo watched him leave and as he did, he felt all his anger being replaced with guilt and regret. He watched his best friend turn the corner and go into the garages and it dawned on him that Luke had been right , Leo had been panicking, Luke had just been trying to help him. Before Leo knew what he was doing, he had opened his front door and was sprinting his way to the garages hoping that Luke was still there, hoping that it wasn't too late, hoping that he could still say sorry.

Leo charged into the garages, however, he couldn't see Luke. He was too late!

"Well, well. I knew you'd come to your senses. Come to apologise have you?" Came a familiar voice.

Leo spun round and on the roof of one of the garages behind him was Luke, smirking, that sly smirk he gave when he knew that he had been right all along.

"Yeah, I'm sorry. I realise now that you were just trying to help me, Thanks for doing that for me" said Leo as he pulled himself up onto the garage roof next to Luke.

"No problem. You would do the same for me"

"Yeah"

There was silence for a while, then Leo checked his watch.

"If the scientists are correct, we have about half an hour until the world ends. You know what? I couldn't think of a better way to spend my last half hour, with my best friend."

Luke didn't say anything, Leo looked at him and his smile faded.

"We are still friends....right?"

Luke looked at him and smiled, one of his rare genuine happy smiles and spoke a single word.

"Forever"
