1 The first Life

Our story follows a character named John.

John wakes up, it is a Thursday, arguably the worst day of the week in his opinion. It's not the middle, nor the end, or even the beginning of the week, it's a "meh" day in his mind.

John's dream is to become a world renowned surgeon. He wants to save lives, so he does his very best to achieve this dream

.

John is a very hard-working student, he doesn't have spare time for a social life or anything else besides studying anatomy, the human body and everything related to the career path ahead of him.

Unfortunately for John, his path is a long and arduous one, with many obstacles to overcome, and today a big one is going to appear in his life.

As John was following his daily routine, he always strived to be extremely healthy, a strange feeling of something being wrong started growing in his mind. John just ignored this feeling, he didn't believe this was a real feeling, he is a very skeptical and logical person.

As he was walking to school, he looked up at the clouds and a slight smile appeared on his face. Today was going to rain! Arguably the best days for studying were rainy day! It was so calming and so refreshing. The noise of the water hitting the roof of the library drowned out all the sounds of the world. John would enter a different world of relaxation and appreciation when studying in days like this.

So, he continued his journey to school, it was very much the same as yesterday, same route, same people, same everything, except the sky was a lot darker than he expected when he reached the library.

As John started his morning study routine at about 9:00am the rain started to pour. John selected a few books on anatomy and one on a new class he was planning to take. Organ transplantation! It was a big and old book. He decided to read this one first to just get the harder part of the day out of the way.

When he opened the first page and started reading it, he was surprised by the age of the book. It was written in 1945, in the middle of WW2!

The author, Jane Thompson, was a doctor who had a dream much similar to John, just a bit more military focused. She wanted to save lives in the army. Because of the war, she had a lot of patients willing to be lab rats just for the chance of surviving a few more days.

Jane had encountered a particularly challenging problem when treating these patients. A lot of them had organ failures, medication and treatment available at the time weren't enough to help these people.

At this point, there's handwriting on the book, John tries to read it, but it is in a different language.

John, tried to ignore the handwriting at first, but his curiosity got the better of him. Opened Google translate on his phone and typed the message letter by letter.

The language it came from surprised him, it was German! But what shocked him the most were its content!

"To all who read this, I had managed to succeed this arduous challenge, with a large amount of research and copious experiments. I finally developed a formula that allows me to substitute a patient "broken" organ, with a good one from a recently deceased patient!

Now the recipe will be available at the end of the book for all that need. But I must warn you, the ingredients are extremely rare. In the development of this formula, I traveled all over the world. Studied countless cultures. I lived among natives of many different places and integrated their beliefs into this formula. During this process, I managed to acquire enough ingredients for three operations."

John took a mental note of this message and decided to see the recipe for himself.

As John read the last few pages of the book, he was surprised by the details it contained. The problem was that all of those details were all written in German.

John painstakingly translated all those pages to English. Unsurprisingly, most of the named were still impossible to make any sense of, but the characteristics of each ingredient was fairly easy to understand.

John decided to make use of a mental trick to memorize all of these details, he didn't know why, but he felt it might be useful in the future.

As he finished memorising all the details, he went back to reading the normal part of the book.

As the rain got heavier, the sounds of thunder started getting louder and louder. When John finished the book, a heavy feeling of fear grew in his heart. He had no idea why.

A large lightning started forming in the skied on top of the library. John was unaware of it, but the feeling of fear only grew as the lightning finishing forming.

When it descended, it was as large as the entire library, over 15 meters wide!

It was the biggest lightning to ever hit the ground in the history of humanity!

The entire sky lit up when the lightning descended, everyone in the city could see this calamity striking. John's vision was entirely white when the pain started registering.

While almost all of the glass in the city had been broken, and over 1500 people had been rendered deaf by the sounds, John couldn't hear any of it.

All he could feel was a strange wet and sticky liquid coming out of his eyes, nose and ears. Mixed in was the feeling of stiffness in his entire body.

John wanted to scream, he wanted to run away from this pain, but he couldn't move, he couldn't open his mouth, he couldn't even breathe.

After what felt like an eternity, John lost his consciousness.
