Chapter 13

[AN: Hey guys! Please point out any mistakes i make in the rewrite.]

[Rin POV]

After psyching myself up, I have a shower and try to freshen myself so that there are no signs of the distress I felt in the night.

After getting dressed, I check my watch and i see it is 8AM. "Okay, I have a full day of studying to do today" I say before heading to the kitchen.

"Ah Yamashita-san, good morning" I am with a smile from the black-haired chef as he notices my figure enter the kitchen.

"I was just going to prepare breakfast. Is there anything in particular you want?" He asks as he finishes cleaning the countertops.

"Good morning Ito-san"

"Hm, could you prepare a traditional Japanese breakfast for me? Preferably healthy" I respond to him and show a smile to him.

"Ah Ito-san! Alfred told me he had talked to you about my request for study books. Do you have them on you? I would like to get studying early today as I have a reservation in the evening."

He nods at me and grabs several books from the messenger bag which is standing on the countertop. "Ah, here you are. I hope these are of use for you" he says in a formal tone.

"Thankyou for this Ito-san. I'm sure they will help me a lot" I bow showing my appreciate and then make my way to the office door which sits adjacent to the kitchen.

'Thinking about it, this is the first time this body has been in here in a couple years. Alfred must clean this place regularly'. Two grand windows covered by grey blinds sit at the end of the room with a great oak desk centred in front of it. The room had multiple paintings and plants, whilst multiple bookshelves embrace the room overall, making the office into a more sophisticated environment.

I sit down at the desk and before I open the book I remember about Miyuki 'Ah, I forgot to tell her about my itinerary. Well, I'm sure Alfred has already organised her to accompany me, but it's better to make sure.'

"Moshi Moshi. Ah, Yamashita-san what can I do for you?" A melodic voice rings into my ears from the phone.

"You seem like you're in a good mood today Miyuki" I say after noticing the cheerful tone coming from her voice.

"I'm calling as I have received the itinerary. I was going to send it to you but I realised I don't have your email" I say and then give a small laugh.

"Ah, no need to worry! I have received your itinerary as they have asked me to accompany you until you go to Tokyo."

'So that's why she sounds so happy, damn foodie' I shake my head and smile.

"By the way, Miyuki? I told you to address me casually. No need to be so polite" I notice the formality in her tone, which makes me slightly uncomfortable after spending the day with her yesterday.

"No, you are my boss so I need to keep a level of formality" she replies to me now with a serious tone.

*sigh* I sigh at the seriousness in the tone of her voice. 'Well, it can't be helped' I shake my head.

'I guess I have to get used to the formality if I'm going to represent my father and mother.'

"Yamashita-san is there anything else you need from me to prepare for tonight" As I didn't respond to her she replied with slight worry in her voice.

*sigh* "No everything is fine. I just wanted to call to make sure u had my itinerary. Ah Miyuki, we'll be visiting a high-end restaurant so please wear something that suits the atmosphere rather than looking too professional" I remember what she wore last time and attach importance to dressing for the occasion rather than the job.

"Okay! I'll wear something appropriate for the atmosphere" she again replies with formality

"Okay, well I'll see you later!" I hang up the phone and look at the books placed out in front of me.

'Cooking theory and practice'

The book looks old and I place its age around 15-20 years old. 'I'm surprised Takuya keeps his books in such great condition.

'Ah, these things I remember from my past life.' I scan through the first few chapters before I hear a knock on the door.

"Yamashita-san, your breakfast is ready! Will you be eating it now or later?" I hear the chef's voice through the other side of the door.

"Ah, Ito-san! I'll be eating now so please can you place it on the table for me? I will finish reading this chapter and then I will eat" I reply to him whilst still scanning the chapter.

A couple minutes later, I make my way to the kitchen and see a neatly laid out meal.

I eat the food and nothing unusual happened this time.

'I don't know if I should be happy or disappointed'

[It seems like my hypothesis was correct] I could sense slight disappointment in her voice as she said this.

Whilst eating I still analyse the flavours and textures within the meal and the combinations between the ingredients give me a small insight into the beauty and design of a Japanese breakfast.

'But it still feels like something is missing' I cannot help but think after eating the meal.

'It was a delightful meal but maybe I'll understand it better when I have a version which is a higher rating' I say to myself and then head back to the office.

'Right, so the reservation isn't until 6PM, it's 9:30AM now so I'll aim to at least get through two books by 4PM' I say again to myself firming my goal for today.

The first book contained knowledge on basic theory containing cooking methods and the uses of each method. This allowed me to understand the different uses of each method; mainly dry heat methods, moist heat methods and the uses of them as a combination.

As I had studied culinary arts for a bit in my past life, I already had a general idea of the methods. However, after I started reading the book, I found my knowledge being alike to a frog in a well.

I check my watch after finished the first book and realised It was 2PM 'I think I was too ambitious by trying to fit in 2 books'.

Despite that, I read the second book which acts as a sequel to the first. The second book "Basics to creating a well-balanced meal" contained knowledge on guiding a flavour in line with the theory of five tastes - sweet, salty, sour, pungent (hot) and bitter.

After reading the first 2 chapters, I hear my alarm ring 'Ah 4PM already' I complain to myself.

[Rin? are you sure you're human?]

'What?' I get confused at her question.

[You just read textbooks for over 6 hours with only minor breaks. You don't think there's something wrong with that?] She says in disbelief in my actions.

'Why are you complaining? You told me to make use of my increased memory capabilities.'

[But even I would find it hard to read something that long unless it was manga....]
