Lightning & Fire

The six goblins are nearly on top of us, and Bernadette is the only one on the front line.

I quickly take Alcon's place in the formation.

A scrunched eyebrow and pursed lips is Bernadette's reaction to the goblins.

She takes a step back.

"Bernadette, just worry about distracting two of them! I'm filling in as a secondary tank to take on another two!"

"What about the last two?!"

My thoughts move faster than my mouth.

"Matt ill gettit!"

"WHAT?!! ME?!"

Bernadette nods in understanding and takes a defensive stance while Matt jumps in surprise.

"Natalia, boost our speed! We'll need it to deal with two at once! Ian, stay in front of Matt and Natalia. Protect them while they cast magic!"

"Umm...ah...okay!"

Ian's response is hesitant, but Natalia responds in an instant.

"Got it! 'Rabbit Foot'!"

A yellow light, the same shade as a lemon, shines around me and Bernadette. I pull two knives out and flip them into a reverse grip.

Both are straight backed with 15 centimeter blades, perfect for killing goblins.

Or anything really.

"'Lighting Bolt'!"

A bolt of lightning flashes from Matt's staff. It strikes the nearest goblin directly in the chest and arches to the one behind it, causing them to spasm as electricity surges through them.

Smoke comes out of their ears and the two goblins collapse to the ground, one of them now dead and the other paralyzed.

Giving a grunt of approval, I charge towards the goblin directly in front of me. The horrid smell radiating from it invades my nose, making me want to gag.

It raises a rusty hatchet above its head as I approach. Instead of backing off, I use the speed boost I have to go faster and get in close.

As it cuts down from the right, I spin around the blade.

Now that I'm less than a foot away from it, the goblin frantically goes to pull the hatchet back.

However, to it's surprise, the weapon drops and sinks into the soft ground.

Looking down at it's wrist's, it finally discovers the two large cuts running through the tendons.

The goblin's shrill shrieking at it's completely immobile fingers starts giving me a migraine.

To shut it up, I step behind it and slit its throat, ear to ear. It's already bled out before it hits the ground.

The next goblin charges at me with a roar, waving its short sword in the air. This one also has a buckler shield, making him a little more difficult to deal with.

'This one's weapons are in pretty bad shape too. Hmm...I wonder if this'll work...'

I've been deflecting it strikes with ease. As the goblin brings it's sword down, I catch it's blade in my knives and snap it.

While it's staring at its sword in shock, I move my knife towards his neck.

Almost instinctively, the goblin raises its shield in defense.

Quickly shifting my stance into one of a martial artist, my foot darts out and connects with its knee.

With a loud SNAP, it's leg breaks sideways and it starts crumpling to the ground.

Before it can fall, I catch it in a guillotine choke and quickly snap its neck.

Done on my end, I drop the goblin and check to see how Bernadette is doing.

One is down, its brain matter spilling out onto the grass. She's trading blows with the other one at the moment, but it's obvious the goblin is out matched.

Ian already finished the goblin Matt stunned, so I don't bother to check.

Instead, I turn to where Alcon charged. He's surrounded. In the center he faces a large goblin covered in blue war paint.

It's well toned muscles ripple every time it swings it's scimitar, which is much nicer than the rust lined weapons of his underlings.

Based off of all that, he must be facing a goblin general.

'That dumb ass, there's no way he can win. Goblin generals are better trained than the rest of these foot soldiers. They earned their title by battling the hobgobling Chieftain.'

"Guess we need to go save the idiot. Matt, get rid of as many gobs as you can."

"Understood!"

With a now confident swish of his cloak, Matt lifts his staff horizontally and places his hand on the end of it. He's mumbling under his breath, mentally preparing for a spell.

Electricity starts sparking from his staff, so I sheath my knives and also get ready to cast.

"Lightning Bundle!"

A blue marble appears at the end of Matts staff. Inside of it, electricity is bouncing off of the walls.

The marble arches off his staff, following a gentle curve before exploding above the goblins surrounding Alcon.

Bolts arc to the surrounding goblins, jumping between them with loud *POP*'s. The general gets the brunt of it, spasming as smoke comes from his eyes and ears.

I smile at the power Matt displayed.

'I can't be left behind.'

Focusing on the flow of energy in my body, I find my well of mana easily enough. Even though I take a decent amount, the pool is hardly affected.

Power floods my body as I clasp my hands together. I start concentrating the mana into my hands, creating a miniscule flame.

The flame expands as I pull my palms apart.

I pour more mana into the fire, compressing it into a ball as the color changes from dark red, to a bright cherry red, and finally a dark orange orb.

My eyes lock onto a target.

"Firewave."

An explosion of heat comes from my hands, and a wave of fire floods over dozens of goblins.

I feel slightly demonic as the roar of the flames drowns out the screams of the roasting goblins.
