Flawed Drafts

Yashi called Keysha, assistant designer of YB 7 and ask her to bring along Cailey, the intern supervisor, to her office to discuss about the preparation of the upcoming fashion show and order of the client, Adie to whom she recently talked.

Keysha, is a young woman with height a little above average and slender build. She has long, curly hair that cascades down her back in a riot of dark, chocolate brown waves. Her skin is a warm, caramel hue and her eyes are a deep brown. She has a sharp jawline and a defined nose that adds to her striking appearance. She always wears her hair tied back in a ponytail or bun, as she finds it helpful to keep it out of her face while working. She often dresses in a casual yet professional way, with fitted blouses, trousers and comfortable shoes. Her style is a reflection of her personality, simple yet sophisticated. She always carries a sketchbook and a pen with her, ready to capture any inspiration that strikes her.

As she entered the designer's office, she could feel the tension in the air. Yashi was sitting at her desk, surrounded by sketches. Her gaze was focused and intense as she scanned through the materials in front of her, making notes and adjustments as necessary.

Keysha approached the designer, her sketchbook and pen in hand. "Good morning, I'm sorry Cailey's a bit busy with the interns, she will come over as soon as she finishes," Keysha said, her voice uncertain and doubtful.

Yashi looked up, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I hope everything is going well with the show," she said, her voice tinged with a hint of displeasure.

Keysha hesitated for a moment, her confidence wavering. "Yes, we have the final designs and fabrics selected, and the garments will be made once you finalise the draft," she said, trying to sound assured but her voice betrayed her.

The designer's expression remained concerned. "I've been going over the final drafts of the collection, and I have to say, I am extremely disappointed in the work that has been presented to me, this is not up to my standards and not what I expect from my team," she said, gesturing to the sketches and draping samples on the table. "I feel like something is missing, the collection doesn't have a coherent story, and it feels like the garments are neither visually pleasing nor have a deeper meaning. We only have a few days left before the show and this is not acceptable. If this work is presented at the show, it will be a total disaster." Yashi's words were stern, her displeasure evident in her tone.

Yashi began to point out mistake one by one starting with the fabric choices, "The draping on this gown is not working with the silk chiffon, it looks cheap and not elegant. The silhouette is not flattering and the color selection is not complementing the model's skin tone." She then moved on to the styling, "The accessories are clashing with the overall look and the hair and makeup is not cohesive with the theme of the collection." She then looked at the sketches and said, "The color palettes are not harmonious and the shapes are not interesting, it looks uninspired and lacks creativity."

"See here, use different cuts and shapes that would flatter the models and accentuate their best features", Yashi suggested. She specifically recommended using asymmetrical hemlines, off-shoulder cuts and cinched waistlines to give a more dynamic and interesting look.

In terms of styling, she emphasized on the importance of layering and suggested incorporating different textures to add depth and interest to the garments. She also recommended using a mix of both monochromatic and complementary colors to create visual interest.

"Do the required changes and come up with appropriate combination of accessories that goes well with the designs by tomorrow morning", Yashi said with a firm voice. "Also, send someone over to my home and bring back samples that I designed for your quick reference". These were the very same designs that Yashi had been doing in the early morning after she received the soft copy of the drafts yesterday night. "Come to me in the evening with the revised draft", she added.

Keysha felt a lump in her throat and knew she had to pull herself together and put in even more effort to meet the expectations. She hurriedly left the office collecting the drafts and walking over to her work table without saying a single word.

As soon as Keysha left, there was a soft knock on the door. Yashi, who was deep in thought, looked up and acknowledged with a nod. It was Cailey, the intern supervisor of YB 7, a woman of petite stature. She has a warm and friendly smile that lights up a room and her hazel eyes sparkles with kindness. Her hair is a soft, golden blonde that is cut into a chin-length bob that frames her face beautifully. Her skin is fair, with a light dusting of freckles across her nose and cheeks. She has a keen sense of fashion, and always accessorizes her outfits with tasteful jewelry, and her hair is always styled in a way that is both professional and on-trend. She is always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and is known for her energetic and enthusiastic attitude.

Cailey could see the stress etched on Yashi's face. She knew that something was not right and could feel the pressure mounting. She handed over the drafts of the client's order to Yashi.

Yashi began reviewing the work and immediately noticed that there were many flaws in the design.

She asked her to have a meeting with the interns immediately and to make the necessary changes and hand it over to her by tomorrow noon. She reminded that client's order need to be delivered just a week after the show and there would not be much time for her to review as she and the team would be busy this week for the show and that adds Cailey's responsibility to check that they can complete the order in time.

Cailey felt the pressure to deliver and to ensure that the client's order was flawless. She left Yashi's office in quick steps and immediately called in the interns and together they began working.
