chapter 3

Sitting in the shadows, I didn't bother switching the lights on. The dark never bothered me anyhow. I could still see clearly and besides I am a creature of the night.

I was rocking back and forth, my claws itching to come out and tear the black folder in front of me in shreds.

I rest my head over the top of the chair, staring at the white ceiling of my office room, I was waiting for the day to break and the twenty-four hours wait to come to an end. the council will decide our fates today.

I closed my eyes mind-linking my beta

Nathan who is currently at the borders with most of our warriors guarding the perimeters of the pack. I decided to enhance the security since the crime.

I have always honoured the treaty my father signed with those bloodsuckers and if they dared compromising it, I would make them regret. they have murdered an important figure of the pack, such treachery cannot go unpunished. I hit the mahogany table so hard while releasing an angry growl.

My father and the previous Alpha walked in a few minutes later I didn't bother to look up since his strong scent overwhelmed the whole office. He switched on the lights and walked closer to the desk. afterwards.

"You shouldn't be too hard on yourself son...Trust the council, They'll come up with a better explanation for all this" I looked down to the chairs across from me.

"You know how the council works... it's either them or us.. How else will come up with a trustful explanation about the murders..?" he could smell the frustration oozing out of me.

"You have to relax Ryner, the weights you carry while sitting on that chair require patience and calmness to lift off each one of them... You can't do it if you're panicked"

I breathed in and out, father's words made sense but I was too stressed to give in. since the day the beta of night ridge pack and his son we're found dead I didn't get a good rest. I know the council suspects me because of the rumours about us as a raiding pack and if it's not proven otherwise me and my people will suffer a great deal.

"I won't let anything happen to my pack, I am the Alpha I can't back down.."

I spoke firmly purposely showing off the determination.

I walk in the campus, manuevering myself in the hallway full of bodies moving to their lockers others to their classes. I spot April's black head facing away from me, busying in her locker.

"Hi.." she jumped scaredly after hearing my voice.

"Are you okay April?.. you have been jumpy the past two days.."

she fidget with the binders in her hands. she was nervous, her heartbeats were abnormal and was this..Fear I was sensing.

"Are you hiding something from me?" I spoke promptly.

she grabbed my forearm, dragging me to the West wing of campus, normally there are no students around here at this hour.

"April you're making me nervous..!"

she let go of my hand and I squared up to face her.

"What's all this about..?" I asked, she looked side ways as if checking for an extra pair of ears to finally talk.

"Things are going bad... didn't you hear?!"

She asked in her screeching like voice.

"I'm sorry... what are you talking about...?"

"The council..They proved the Lycans innocent... They're not guilty"

My mind quickly round up, today was the day the council would call Alpha Ryner and Athan. judging by the way April is behaving nothing went right.

"What about us.We didn't kill those ware wolves!!." I shot back desperately.

"They were not just any ware wolves" she spoke heavily, I began feeling highly strung by the way she said it.

"What are you trying to say.." I asked my voice low.

"The two men were... beta Ethan and his son from the night ridge pack".

"What??.. " I fired "What is going to happen now?"

I was afraid I wouldn't like the answer that follows and my fears to rest..I really didn't.

"It's war" she answered back brokenly.

"How could..."

My phone buzzed stopping me mid sentence as I draw it out of my jeans pocket to pick it up.

"Hallo...I'm in campus Dad... what happened?"

April was staring at me intently. She was fretting over this matter as if she was a vampire herself.

"No Dad...I wont.. okay, tell Mom I'm fine."

I hung up the phone to continue talking to April.

"What did he say...?"

"He told to stay out of sight, he's coming to get me.. they fear the ware wolves would attack me first....it's.. it's complicated you can't understand"

"So what now...?" she asked cautiously

"We be on the lookout, keep running or face our ghosts and Fight them back" I spoke surprisingly strategically.

I felt the change of Environment, and everything happening so fast before I could pin point it, I felt a sting-throb beneath my shoulder blades and I began feeling drowsy. my eyes landed on April who was down to the floor unconscious before me. getting a glimpse of whoever did this to us, I'm met with a pair of faint green eyes.

I was struggling to stay awake and fight back, but the drug they injected me with was stronger than my system, I felt blackness slowly covering my eyes and I couldn't remember anything else that followed.

I was kidnapped, Dad was right the enemy would come for me.. and He did.

April's words came to life. Alpha Ryner is probably my worst nightmare of all ages now.

I'm doomed.

There is a murderer in Phoenix, killing supernatural beings... Or is there a hunter hiding somewhere in Arizona.

Or did the vampires really killed the beta of the Night ridge pack and his son?.
