Jealousy and Trust

"Are you blaming me without blaming me? When you look at me, do I look like someone who ruins the lives of innocents?" Tony asked.

Marcella was stunned by his question. That was a big leap from the silence! She preferred him talking though. 

"No, you will not hurt innocents. More importantly, you will not hurt my friends. I know that you are powerful to do whatever you want to," she said. 

He didn't stop the car but he slowed down. Although it was the city that never sleeps, the traffic was down considerably. 

Tony sighed. His eyes were unfocused. He almost missed the exit and swerved hard to take it. A truck whooshed past them missing them just by a few feet. Marcella held his hand. 

"Shall I drive?" she asked. 

Tony didn't turn to face her. He went silent. Marcella pressed her lips and leaned back on the seat. They had a pleasant night and she had to ruin it by bringing up Beth.
