Intro

I was breathing heavily when I awoke from a horrible dream. There is fire all around me at all times, and each night it addresses me by an odd name. These dreams began when I was ten years old, and I was sixteen at the time. I opted to disregard the fact that I knew I was unique.

From the other room, my mother shouted out, "Helen."

"Yes, mom, I was called," I replied. We had a close relationship because my mom was in her late 20s. She has this careless attitude, but she's my mom, and I adore her just the way she is. She was like a best friend to me.

My mother said, "Sit down. I have something to tell you." With my eyes wide open, I sat down and started to hear my mom out.

It's time for me to explain why you've been having strange dreams for a long, as I know you have. With a sigh, she went on. "You are a unique youngster, Helen. Even though I've been aware of it, I've decided to disregard it. Mom said in a dejected tone, "I thought I was the special one, but fate has its own way of doing things."

I questioned, "What do you mean by I'm special?"

"What do you mean by that Helen, I am aware that you are aware of your uniqueness" Mom said that in a displeased manner. I averted my gaze and sidestepped the inquiry. I was always aware of my uniqueness, but I had no idea how. I got up and walked out of Mom's room. I wished for Mom to stop there. Yes, I would like to know what makes myself unique, but I find it difficult to listen to myself. What happens if it hurts me? What if my mother is impacted? No, I simply cannot," I pondered. I made my way to my room to get ready for class. I was excited about starting high school on this first day. I wanted to improve on my middle school performance, which was something I had not done well in. My desire was for serenity, not for fame.

When I got to school, I laughed and realized that I was an introvert once more. Everyone in high school seemed to be trying to impress each other; nobody seemed to know who they were anymore. The boys shined, and all the girls wore a lot of makeup. They all looked like Greek gods, which reminded me of an ogre. I rolled my eyes and went about my high school career as the proud introvert that I was. Sure, I occasionally wanted to socialize, but it's not worth compromising who you are.

I returned home immediately after the day's end, but there was a great surprise waiting for me.
