Twenty- Four

"What even is your life?" June said , staring at her friend in disbelief. They finally had a chance to talk and Laura shared with her best friend the events of the past weeks and everything he knew about the Knight twins.

"I know, right? Could be some fucking telenovela drama," Laura snorted.

"You really attract some weird people and things, it's not even funny," June shook her head, absorbing slowly what she just learned.

"Yeah, but it's over now," Laura shrugged:

"I feel much better after slapping him though and I haven't seen him since and don't plan to in the future. I wanna be with Erza now, we went on a second date just yesterday and it was amazing."

"I am not sure about him, Laur," June sighed.

"What? Why not? You don't even know him," the younger retorted, slightly annoyed that June was judging someone she didn't even know, on the other hand she knew her best friend was just looking out for her because she had a history of getting into trouble .

June knew that, but she needed to understand that Erza was really a nice guy so she added: "He is very sweet, seriously, I want you to meet him soon and you'll see for yourself."

"Maybe he is sweet but...he used to be a gangster, Laur!"

"Yes, he used to, the past tense is what's important here," Laura pointed out.

"Still, he has probably done some bad things, he even admitted that he's got blood on his hands!"

"So do I!" Laura exclaimed, but she looked around when she realized she was getting too loud in the small café they were sitting at.

She continued, more quietly: "God knows I am not a saint, I had some pretty bad years, so who am I to judge him? And he told me, he decided to be honest and that counts, it's not like he is hiding it from me."

"I am just worried about you."

"I know, Juneie and I love you for that but I really like him and I can relate to him too. We both struggled to get some normal life and we did it. He left his brother and the gang and got a decent apartment and normal job. I think that counts big time, we all deserve a second chance."

"Okay, let's suppose he really left and is normal now," June said: "What about his brother though?"

"What about him? I told you, I don't intend to see him again so he is out of the picture."

"And you really think he is gonna let you go, just like that?"

"He is not interested in me enough to chase me," Laura scoffed:

"He just had fun playing with me with all those lies and we had some great sex, but I don't think he is a type to get attached easily."

"I don't know, you said he didn't look happy when you told him you slept with Erza, seems like he was jealous and quite pissed off from the thought of you with his twin."

"He was probably just pissed off that I banged both, which wasn't even my fault but his," Laura rolled her eyes:

"And it's been over two weeks since I saw him and since then he hasn't tried to contact me or anything, if he wanted to bother me and chase me, he would have done that already."

"I don't know, I just don't have a good feeling about any of this," June sighed:

"What happened is already a big mess, but something is telling me that you and Erza won't be left alone just like that, Elias will get between you or his old gangster life will catch up on him, you know how these things are, it will always come back and bite you in the ass."

"It hasn't happened to me."

"Never say never, I am still sometimes worried that they will find you. What you did...I don't think it will remain without consequences," June sighed:

"I wish I was wrong, but I can't help it."

"Well...if the past will catch up on me, good thing I have a former gangster by my side then," the younger grinned.

"That is not funny."

"I think it is, come on, June, just cheer up," Laura smiled:

"For the first time in forever, it feels like I have finally my shit together and can start a normal life, with an apartment and boyfriend like normal people, all I need now is a new job and it will be all good."

"I really hope you will get all that," June smiled back.

"Maybe you will feel better about all this if you meet him," Laura suggested:

"We can go hang out with him and maybe take his roommate too, I haven't had a chance to really meet him formally yet so it would be great to take both of you."

"Well, you seem pretty serious about Erza, so I guess it is only a matter of time before I'd meet him, why not now?" June nodded.

"Great, I am gonna talk to him and we will come up with something and I will let you know when and where."
