6 Becoming an Adventurer

[Would you like to become an adventurer?]

[Yes] [No]

Stunned, 6 refrained from answering until he knew why he was being asked this so suddenly.

Prior to this, Trivrium hadn't even explained what an adventurer was, or what becoming one entailed.

6 wasn't the type to blindly agree to anything, even if he was bored.

After insistent questioning, Trivrium finally gave him a brief explanation.

Adventurers were basically mercenaries that worked for their respective Domus planet. They went on missions for thier Domus Planet, either solving issues that occured on the planets they were directly connected to, or trying to establish new connections to planets.

She didn't seem to eager to share information on the more intricate details that this entailed, but she assured him that she couldn't force anything upon him, even if he chose to accept.

He shrugged his shoulders and chose yes.

You've been granted the Adventurer's Blessing by [************]. Status page unlocked. Skill page unlocked. Log page unlocked.

Blessed by an unknown entity, not Trivrium?

Was this something above Trivrium, a large Domus planet or something even larger?

It was clear that this was something that isn't limited to just Trivrium, but at the same time, it was tied to Trivrium in some way. Otherwise, accepting Trivrium's request wouldn't have caused this. Was it related to how the Domus planet's collaborated with each other for the combat facility and auction?

Was it some type of higher body that governed the Domus planets, or was it something more?

Most importantly, 6 needed to know what this gave him. Just seeing some numbers and descriptions of the things he could do didn't help him much, but if this gave him ways to get stronger than it fully fulfilled his expectations of this new universe he was being introduced to.

[Status Page]

[Name: 6]

[Title: None]

[Level: Useless]

[Comments: C'mon, man.]

Harsh, but alright. It wasn't the first time he was considered weak since he arrived at Trivrium.

[Skill Page]

[Sneaking]

[Type: Active]

[Quality: Basic]

[Level: Max]

[Effects: Raises your abilities to remain undiscovered]

[Description: This skill is at its peak. To improve, a higher level skill is required.]

This was the only skill listed on his skills page. From the looks of it, the rest of his abilities weren't up to the standard required to be considered a skill, which ignited 6's blood even more.

His heart was pounding when he thought of how his skills, which were enough to be considered one of the best fighters on Earth, weren't even worth defining here.

Although his sneak skill was maxed, he didn't think this was amazing. Given that magic and superpowers are reality here, his stealth skills really weren't much to consider. The man who killed him had insane hearing, even a deep breath from hundreds of feet away could lead to him discovering you. Magic users might have some type of magical radar, and there were surely some people who would have some type of sixth sense.

Without an equally mystical ability to hide his presence, he would surely get detected, no matter how good he was at hiding from someone's eyes.

When he pulled up the log, there was only a relatively blank screen, displaying just two tabs. One tab, labeled "general", containing only the words "You've been granted the Adventurer's Blessing by [************]. Status page unlocked. Skill page unlocked. Log page unlocked." The other tab was labeled "combat', and it was entirely empty.

Trivrium explained to him that the log would display relevant information about the things that happened to him or around him. When he fought, it would record the battle details in the combat tab, and other information would go into the general tab.

Satisfied with his new gains, 6 finally decided to ask the big question.

Out of the many reasons he could think of, the only valid one to explain Trivrium asking him to become an adventurer came down to a sense of urgency, whatever it may be from. Considering how casual and accepting of her people's choices she has been, something lit a fire under her ass, causing her to need more adventurers.

"Why did you need me to immediately become an adventurer?" he asked Trivrium, hoping that now that he accepted, she would give him some more information.

[Trivrium is now at war. Adventurers are encouraged to take on as many missions as possible. Rewards for completing missions have been increased. Wartime discounts have been provided for all services provided by Trivrium. Research on items has become free. Individuals from other Domus planets are to be regarded as hostile until declared otherwise. Actions which benefit the war will be greatly rewarded. Actions that harm the war will be met with punishment. Please prepare sufficiently.]

With wide eyes, 6 stared at the message for much longer than he needed. He began having second thoughts about praying for excitement, it seemed his backed up prayers were finally getting approved by whatever god there was.

A war was much bigger than what he expected.

Although it would surely be a different type of war compared to what he was used to, all war surely meant one thing. Deaths. You can't have war without deaths.

War breeds opportunity, but only if you can survive it. Without some foundation to stand on, this was the worst time for 6. He needed to at least get his footing.

[Would you like to accept a mission immediately?]

[Yes] [No]

Now wasn't the best time to start. He just got the discount, and luckily he hadn't bought his armor yet. He may be able to afford better items now, if his fortune is good enough.

"Trivrium, does the discount apply to the Craftsman's Square?"

[No.]

That would be too convenient.

The first thing he noticed was that the Skill Book tab in the shop was now unlocked. Perhaps it only opens when certain things happen, or perhaps it's because he is an adventurer now, but either way, he could at the very least look at the skills it offers now.

[Dagger Mastery]

[Type: Passive]

[Quality: Basic]

[Effects: Raises proficiency with related weapons]

[Description: A basic skill that all dagger related skills require.]

It featured a myriad of basic skills like this. All of them were foundation skills, things you needed in order to use other things. There were no advanced skills, but he did see a [Firearm Mastery] for (Light) (Medium) and (Heavy) firearms, but they were much more expensive than the masteries for the various cold weapons he could choose from.

[Mana]

[Type: Passive]

[Quality: Unrated]

[Effects: Unlocks mana]

[Description: Don't be tempted just yet. There are many kinds of energy, and not every type gets along with others.]

Although the idea of magic excited him to no end, the warning poured cold water on his dreams. Without more information about mana and the other types of energy it mentioned, he definitely wouldn't even consider buying this.

On the plus side, it shouldn't be essential to him just yet. Otherwise, Trivrium definitely wouldn't allow him to become an adventurer without it.

As long as he could hold back from getting it until he learns more, he should be safe.

As for how to gain information, he had a few methods. The easiest was simply asking Trivrium, but that netted no results. She simply didn't respond when it came to information like that. His next bet was the library. It would surely have a book or two on mana, if not other types of energy.

His last, and most dreadful, resort, was the short kid with no name.

Given how fast the kid was, he definitely knew something. Even if he didn't use anything like that himself, he would definitely have some information about it.

Putting aside [Mana], [Dagger Mastery] was basically a must have for him. With limited funds and no other skills, he needed to get the most out of the weapon he had.

Luckily, it was cheap enough that he could still afford an armor after the discount.

One thing did tempt 6 away from his precious [Dagger Mastery], however.

[Basic Protection Of Trivrium]

[Type: Body Armor

[Quality: Basic]

[Defense: Basic]

[Special Effects: Applies 25% of its defense to your entire body]

[Description: A basic item that has been blessed by Trivrium.]

6 wiped away the drool that was dripping from the corner of his mouth.

He understood the people who worshipped Trivrium a little bit more now.

As he had seen throughout the day, many of the things she could do literally seemed like miracles. He was certain that on his home planet, these miracles definitely would have made even more fanatics than there were here.

The [Dagger Mastery] was still more important though, so he bought that and a basic light armor for his chest.

[Would you like to accept a mission immediately?]

[Yes] [No]

This time he agreed with no hesitation. Trivrium gave him a list of missions that he was qualified to accept.

The first thing he did was set the filter to only allow solo missions. He'd rather not risk his first mission, where he's at his absolute weakest, being affected by the actions of others.

Unfortunately due to his low level, this left only three missions to choose from.

A limited selection wasn't always a bad thing in 6's opinion, as it meant he had less choosing to do.

[The World of the Wandering Forest]

[An unowned planet blanked by a poison miasma. There is a single forest on the planet, the only place the poison doesn't penetrate. The forest is forced to move constantly to harvest enough nutrients to survive, forcing any inhabitants to move along with it. Less than 2% of the world is covered by the wandering forest, and it has not grown larger in many centuries.]

[The Alchemical Madman]

[This mission is on an abandoned vassal planet of another Domus planet. A respected alchemist, one of the best in the entire world, went insane. He destroyed cities and experimented on humans for a number of years. The planet itself was just reaching the beginning phase of developing its own soul, however, the mad alchemist destroyed this budding soul through an unknown method. As the decades have passed, the world has deteriorated and become a shadow of what it once was.]

[Spider's Egg]

[A super massive spider nest has appeared on one of Trivium's low level vassal planets, resembling a giant spider's egg sack. It has devoured an entire village thus far, and the inhabitants of the planet are entirely terrified of it.]

Clicking on a mission would bring up a more detailed explanation about what the mission was.

6's ego wasn't so inflated that he believed he could figure out a solution to everything. The wandering forest was an immediate no.

None of his skills were anything close to being useful on a planet like that. He had no solution to the poison, even for himself, much less others. The mission itself was to find the cause or a solution to the poison to make the planet fully inhabitable.

The alchemy world was tempting. Surely an advanced world with alchemy would have more modern weaponry he could get access to, which would be a massive help to him.

Unfortunately, the danger that the madman who was capable of destroying cities and even the soul of a world, whatever that is, was too big to neglect for a beginner like him, even if the madman was already dead.

Given that the world is full of alchemy, he surely would've left behind some kind of danger.

The fact that the only reason he was eligible for the mission was because the world had deteriorated from its peak meant there was even higher odds of finding some type of danger he couldn't handle yet.

The spider nest was tempting as well. Based on the wording, it wasn't that the inhabitants of the planet couldn't handle the nest, but that they were too terrified to do so. Additionally, the mission itself wasn't to destroy the nest, but to explore it. It was a scouting mission, so that Trivrium would know the correct level of adventurer to send. If you decide you can handle it, you're allowed to attempt to destroy the spider's nest yourself, and Trivrium will grant bonus rewards for saving her the trouble of finding another adventurer and saving her the energy of teleporting.

Between the spider's nest and the alchemy world, 6 was leaning more towards the alchemy world. The spider's nest was in a less advanced dworld, still in the era of cold weapons, which explained why they were too terrified to handle the giant spider's nest.

The alchemy world suited him more, given it seemed to be basically on the same level as Earth after the deterioration, except that it also had access to alchemy. It would be a nice step forward, if you disregarded the fact that you were supposed to explore the history of the insane alchemist.

The spider's nest offered one key thing that made him hesitate.
