Chapter 14

Kayden's POV

My wolf and I were outraged at Lucas's challenge. How dare he challenge me for my mate? He wasn't even part of my pack and had no reason to be here. But the challenge has been issued all the same and I wasn't about to lose the mate I just found to him.

Getting off the platform I stepped towards Lucas. And we began to circle each other, no words were necessary since it was obvious neither of us would back down.

I watched him as we circled each other, with us both being wolves we didn't have any obvious weaknesses, but I was looking more at his form. After a few more seconds, Lucas got impatient and lunged at me attempting to punch me in the face.

I dodged his hit and went for his ribs with a successful hit. He took a step back with the air leaving his lungs. He growled at me, which earned him a smirk from me. Knowing I just pissed him off he came at me again. I rotated my body out of the way, grabbed his forearm, and twisted.

There was a loud crack that went through the yard and a few gasps as Lucas's arm was now hanging from his elbow. With his dominant arm unable to use he tried shifting his body so I wouldn't go for his arm again.

At that move I realized that he still planned to fight me for Lani. I sighed knowing the only way to get him to stop with out killing him is to knock him out or make him completely unable to fight. And right now, knocking him out seemed like the fastest way to end this.

We started circling each other again, with Lucas keeping his right arm further behind him. Instead of waiting on him to attack, I tackled him to the ground. With the way he was standing more weight was put onto his right shoulder. There was another crack sound through the yard.

At first, I thought it was his shoulder that he landed on until Lucas let out a groan and his eyes began to drift close. Taking a breath I could smell the blood, knowing the fight was over I waived over his beta and delta to help him up.

Once they sat him up, we could see a puddle of blood on the ground. There was a small rock sticking out of the ground that his head hit, causing it to start bleeding.

"I need Dr. Simons!" I called out to the crowd.

I could hear the crowd creating space for him. A hand touched my back and by the tingles I received knew it was Lani. I moved over so she could see, Dr. Simons was there a second later and started giving instructions to his Beta, Caleb and Delta, Ethan.

"Alpha, he'll bleed out before they get to his pack –. "

"Do whatever you have to but save him. We may not be allies but we are still neighbors."

The doctor nodded and had Caleb and Ethan take him to our infirmary. As they left Lani grabbed my hand and took me back to the platform.

"As we all witnessed, Kayden has won the challenge."

"He tried to kill Alpha Lucas!" Everyone turned their attention to the person who spoke just for most of us to scoff and roll our eyes. Of course, it was Gianna who spoke.

"The injury to his head was unintentional." I stated to her. "I also got him medical attention as soon as it happened."

"That doesn't matter! It was an attempt to murder him for challenging you for that whore!" She shouted.

There were several growls that sounded among the crowd from both packs, and she took a small step back realizing no one agreed with her statement.

I took a step towards her, as she took a few more back. "What did you call my mate?"

"Y- You heard-d m-m-me." She stuttered over herself, while we watched her wolf try to submit.

I felt Lani touch my arm, calming my wolf and I down.

"Gianna, you've had a problem with me since I arrived, what did I do to you though?" Lani asked calmly.

Gianna's head snapped up to glare at Lani, "You made Lucas want you! Why couldn't you just sleep with him, so he'd come back to me?!"

Lani gave her a curious look, "He knew I was waiting for my mate. I won't lie he did try once, and after he was stopped, he promised not to do so again until finding out if we were mates. I did not trick him into spending time with me or getting to know each other. His decision to not be with you had nothing to do with me, and more to do with the type of person you are. Have you ever thought about that?"

Gianna released a growl at Lani before lunging for her with her claws out. Before I could stop her Lani had her on the floor, and not a scratch on herself.

Lani tsked at Gianna shaking her head. "Gia, did you really think I would let you attack me? I've been as kind as possible to you since I met you, and yet you attempted to attack me. But there's one thing you didn't anticipate for."

"Oh yeah, and what was that?" Gia asked struggling to move Lani off of her.

"You thought I was weak when you've never seen me fight. But I have seen you fight and I don't like your style. It's underhanded and sneaky."

Gianna scoffs at her. "So what? You want a fair fight? Fine!"

"Are you sure about this?"

"Absolutely, I've been dying to scratch up your face."

"Very well." Lani gets up and offers Gianna her hand.

She scoffs again, hitting her hand out of the way before getting up on her own.

Once again both packs were in a circle trying to watch the fight.

Gianna didn't even bother to circle Lani but lunged at her again. Lani quickly stepped to the side, letting Gianna face plant into the ground. Lani jumped onto her back putting her into a choke hold starting to cut her air off.

As Gianna started gasping, she extended her claws and tried scratching at Lani's face, when she wasn't able to reach her, she started going for her arm. Lani sucked in a breath and tightened her hold until Gianna stopped struggling and slumped in her hold.

Letting her go Lani came to me grabbing my hand and taking me to the platform.

"Any other challenges today?" She calls out to the packs.

When no one responded I finally spoke back up.

"Then I would like to introduce everyone to my mate and the Luna of the Crescent Moon Pack, Lani Kelekolio!"
