Powers and Power Play

In a classroom within the tower sat Sicarius among students of varying ages. The room was spacious and in front of it was a holographic board that had multiple lines of text displayed on it. On the side of the room were windows, however, it displayed nothing but the clouds outside. A teacher stood at the front, explaining a lesson in human powers.

"Orthodox and unorthodox, this refers to whether a person's power is something known in this world or is something completely unexplained, respectively. Orthodox powers could be fire, ice, wind, or anything that exists in this world like the elements or gravity. Unorthodox powers are often of the mental realm, for these are the powers that deal with matters of the soul and the unknown. Examples of unorthodox vary, some unorthodox powered can possess other people, some can teleport, and there was even a case of an unorthodox powered being able to summon creatures from another world."

"Now let's proceed to the types of applications of human power, complete, intrinsic, and extrinsic. Intrinsic means to manifest within a human's body, like body transformations. Extrinsic means to manifest outside a human's body, for example: to form a fireball in your palms. Now lastly, complete means to be able to use your powers Intrinsically and extrinsically."

The teacher for the Mana Theory class, Bogart, a middle aged shriveled man with greying hair and a status of 2, explained with a nasal tone to his voice. Sicarius had already read books regarding the classifications of powers for humans, however, he still attended the class. It didn't matter if he was one of the oldest in the class or if he was the only one paying attention, if there was anything that could help him gain insight into why his powers had not manifested yet it would be of great assistance.

"Does everyone understand?" Bogart asked,

"Yes sir!" the class replied,

One student among the rest spoke loudly, "Sir, what's your power?"

"My power?" Bogart smirked, "Brace yourselves, class, my powers are not for show, but I will show them regardless to oblige your requests."

Bogart proceeded to cough. The disgusting sound of putrid bile rising up from his throat emanated in the class before he spat it out towards a corner of the room. The bile landed with a disgusting splat before eating away at the tiles. It sizzled as it ate through, eventually falling a floor below.

"Goddamnit, Bogart, not again!" A yell could be heard from below.

"Ewwwww!" One student said,

Sicarius's other classmates weren't all vocal about it but they all seemed rather repulsed at the teacher's powers. Their faces all scrunched up in disgust as if they regretted even asking.

Bogart opted to ignore their expressions and instead proceeded to ask, "Now, who can tell me what kind of power that was? Whoever says disgusting is expelled."

It may have been repulsive, but perhaps if Bogart was dissected and the organ which produced the bile was extracted, it would be quite a useful thing. At least, that's what Sicarius thought.

"That power was orthodox, applied extrinsically!" Answered a student,

"Correct!" Bogart exclaimed,

"But why does it matter if it's intrinsic or extrinsic?" A student asked,

"It matters because often when one awakens they can only apply it either intrinsically or extrinsically, there are even cases wherein they can only apply it one way for the rest of their lives. To know the complete applications of your powers from awakening is rare and is often a sign of a prodigy, that just shows how important it is to know the complete applications of your ability." Bogart explained, "Is there anyone here who's awakened their powers yet?"

Bogart inexplicably proceeds to stare at Sicarius after speaking, "You're Sir Omni's disciple right?"

Sicarius merely answered with a nod.

"Woah," A student muttered, "it's him?"

"I bet that guy has powers like time or gravity or something."

"I bet it's some kinda space manipulation."

"Tsk, I heard his mother begged the founder to take her kid in as a disciple. He's probably weak." Said the oldest in the room. A teenage boy around 18 years of age with a toned body and red short hair. Sicarius glanced at this kid with his dead eyes before turning to look at Bogart.

"Well, what are your powers, son?" Bogart asked with a kind smile, "Considering you just go appointed as a combat instructor, your powers and combat ability must be exceptional right?"

"I have none."

"As expec-" Bogart paused, "What was that?"

"I have no powers." Sicarius clarified,

"How old are you again?" Bogart asked with an expression of confusion in his face,

"Fifteen."

"Fifteen years old!" Bogart exclaimed with his eyebrows scrunched up together. His potential was low, but not bad. What made it bad was that he was Omni's disciple. How could he be Omni's disciple with just this much?

"I told you guys he was a loser!" The red haired kid announced,

The class kept silent, but it was obvious from their expressions that the way they looked at Sicarius had changed. Even the teacher seemed to have lost interest in him, there was even a hint of disdain hidden in his expression. However, that really didn't matter to Sicraius.

Sicarius could only sigh, "Can we proceed with the lecture ."

Why were there people who court death in every world he had been to? Perhaps as long as consciousness exist there will always be that one fool who brandishes his tongue and gets it cut as a result. Sicarius is immune to such insults he had heard over and over again.

"Oh! Right then, let's proceed to how powers awaken and develop." Bogart chuckled helplessly, "Powers often come naturally when children reach a certain age, it could also be stimulated through immense pressure. There had been multiple researches conducted on how to make a regular human manifest powers but they yielded no results. Powers just began to randomly manifest within people in the beginning and since then it had been hereditary. A person manifesting powers out of nowhere is a rare case nowadays. However, there is one case I know of. It's a student of this school, he awakened both his powers out of nowhere and attained complete applications of it instantly."

"Both powers?" A student asked in awe, "He has more than one?"

"Both powers." Bogart nodded, "It appears God has sent us the hero against the sins because he's a priest with orthodox powers of fire."

Sicarius raised an eyebrow. Sicarius didn't mind the teacher was a gossip because it provided him a means for information, the problem was verifying his claims. A priest and fire powers? Now that's the kind of unfair advantage Sicarius had from his previous worlds.

"Is that kid a disciple of the founder?" The red haired kid asked as he smirked at Sicarius, "That's who I would expect to be the founder's disciple. Not a powerless boy."

"Last I heard of, he isn't his disciple yet," Bogart replied before looking at Sicarius who had just stood up, "Sicarius sit down."

Sicarius paced slowly towards no one else but the red haired kid. Once he reached the chair of the boy Sicarius simply stood staring at him who was seated.

"What? You wanna fight little boy?" The red haired kid snickered as he stood up, revealing his height compared to Sicarius. Sicarius was fifteen and was 5'8" compared to the red haired kid that had almost reached his full height of 6'5". Sicarius was rather short.

Sicarius wasn't insulted, but taking insults would simply make him look like he'll take more, like a wimp. Now that would simply invite more ridicule in the long run.

Bogart watched, hoping that the red haired kid would put Sicarius in his place. Instead, he saw Sicarius grab the red haired kid by the throat and raise him a few inches off the floor.

"Holy shit!" A student exclaimed,

The whole class went ballistic. Others kept cheering for a fight, while a select few seemed to run out of the room in search of someone else other than Bogart to handle this situation.

"Sicarius sit down!" Bogart tried to intervene, "Is this how the founder's disciple should act!?"

Sicarius merely stared into his eyes before tightening his grip on the boy's throat.
