Dungeon Break

His body tensed slightly as he approached walked down the alleyway behind the officer.

He wasn't scared by any account. Compared to the demonic statue from the double dungeon, its presence was nothing.

However, he was experiencing the city he had grown up in, be demolished by the beasts he had been hunting in the dungeons, an alternate dimension.

'As a civilian you don't really grasp the true horror of these gates... until the gates consume your home that is...'

The two eventually left the alleyway as the sounds of fighting got worryingly close. Clanging from the weapons as well as unorganised shouting could be heard clearly on the silent streets.

Despite the evacuation supposedly happening, the police force were creating a perimeter around the fighting since a scarily large amount of people were taking pictures and recording using their mobile phones.

"People these days..."

Sung Jinwoo shook his head as he looked at the mob. Normal civilians were risking their lives for the chance of a small amount of fame from their clips.

Ignoring his mumbles, the officer cleared the people, yelling for them to let the duo past.

'If I follow him, there is no doubt I will get caught on those cameras...'

His thoughts were surprising even for himself. Despite the dangerous situation, his body no longer shook with the same fear as before, rather he almost felt confident in his ability to survive the beast before him.

'It seems to be a Golem type monster. That explains their struggle in getting through its defense. As for rank... I would guess about D- Rank'

Switching his attention from the relatively unharmed boss, Sung Jinwoo quickly scanned the Hunters fighting it.

'By my count, roughly 8 E-Ranks and a D-Rank tank. Wait! A B-Rank healer too?'

As he looked closer a familiar visage overlapped the back of the B-Ranker.

"Lee Joohee?"

He mumbled quietly from behind the onlookers.

It wasn't wrong to call her his saviour. There were far too many times Lee Joohee had healed Sung Jinwoo after near fatal wounds. Luckily his vision had become clearer with each level up, something Jinwoo had put down to his increased health from the system.

'She seems scared, like really scared. Is it trauma? I guess we each got affected differently'

Unlike Sung Jinwoo, Lee Joohee had not received any benefits from the deadly event, all she was left with were scars.

'I don't want to get on those cameras, but I refuse to leave her like that. I suppose I can help from behind here.'

Sung Jinwoo looked down at his knife, the knife he had earned from the Station Instance dungeon.

'I don't really want to throw this thing around and lose it...'

It was at that point that Sung Jinwoo remembered a core feature of the system.

"My inventory!"

His realisation brought a devious smirk to his face.

Deciding it was worth the shot, Sung Jinwoo stood behind the crowd taking careful aim to not hit the onlookers.

The Golem Boss bellowed as it slammed it hands against the floor, targeting the attackers.

Balls of magic from multiple elements clashed against the solid body of the Golem, leaving not a scratch to show for it.

Even though it looked fruitless, desperation drove the Hunters into continuing their barrage.

"Healers get on the tanks, once they fall, we are all down!"

One of the attackers barked as he slashed at the legs of the golem. The collision making his arms go weak.

In response, the D-Rank Tank shoved him to the side.

Confusion swept him for a moment before he saw the rigid fist of the Golem slam into the tanks shield, forcing him to step backwards.

"Attackers, don't let up! We need to break this guys shield!"

The Tank yelled as he parried the remaining force of the Golems punch off to the side.

'We have been at it for ages now, yet it refuses to even budge!'

From what he could see, the Golem had not taken a single step back since the fight started.

'If this keeps up, we are dead!'

There was no guarantee backup would arrive, and this team of leftovers could not even scratch the surface of the boss.

The Golems fist slammed once more next to the tank.

Shards of concrete and tarmac flew across the street.

Stepping backwards, the tank readied his shield as he prepared to receive another punch.

Suddenly a shriek sounded from behind him.

"WATCH OUT!"

Alarm bells wrung in his mind as he went to twist his head. As his head looked right, the grim reaper stared back.

A giant fist closed in on him, its force split the air as it approached.

'Fuck! Using both hands now?!'

He braced his body and swivelled his shield as fast as he could. Naturally, his eyes closed as blood was drawn from his bitten lip.

His body was tensed, rigid and unmoving.

The sounds around him had dulled.

Sweat dripped down his back as he braced for impact...

Yet, nothing.

Nothing happened.

He slowly opened his squeezed eyes as the sound from around him rushed into his ears once more.

'Cheers?'

The crowd and hunters around him were celebrating.

Noticing the odd situation, he quickly looked around, only to find the collapsed body of the Golem boss.

Its body was cracked as the light generated from its essence stone had dimmed, before going dark completely.

"We won?"

His body collapsed on the ground, lifeless as his chest heaved.

The tank didn't remain motionless for long before he realised one crucial factor.

'How?'

He thought hard before remembering one thing before his eyes shut.

"Someone threw something..."

His eyes scanned around the Golem and saw no-one. From what he could hear, no-one was taking the kill as their individual claim.

As he looked towards the crowd, he saw a slight split between the onlookers and a confused officer.

Deciding it was worth investigating, the tank walked over before questioning the officer.

"Hey Buddy, who are you looking for?"

His rough tone immediately caught the attention of the officer as he turned around and answered.

"Ah, I was leading a male hunter over here but as soon as the boss dropped he had vanished"

His answer was filled with confusion as he shrugged his shoulder.

After thanking the officer, the D-Rank tank took on a pensive look before going to the Golems body.

'We couldn't even scratch it a moment ago, yet its chest looks as though its been jackhammered...'

His confusion was justified.

Just as he went to turn away and forget the issue entirely, he noticed a glistening object deeply lodged in the chest of the Golem.

'A blade? It looks pretty expensive'

Climbing closer to grab the blade, something bizarre happened.

'It vanished?'

His eyes widened.

'It was there right?'

His thoughts were left unanswered.

There was only one thing that was certain.

"Whoever that was, is scarily strong"

He shivered slightly before casting the thoughts aside and going off to celebrate with the strike team.

'I seem to be the only one who noticed so whatever'

He was wrong.

Separate from the celebrating strike team, a lone healer stood wide eyed at the corpse of the Golem.

She had seen it.

'Someone took it down in one hit!'

Realising she didn't know who, Lee Joohee turned towards the direction of the throw, yet all she saw was a raving crowd of phones.

'In the crowd? No that's too dangerous, it must be behind!'

She had no idea why she wanted to find out who, rather, it was a mysterious compulsion to find out.

Slipping between the police barrier, Lee Joohee ignored the elation of the crowd, eventually making her way to the edge of the crowd.

Emptiness.

The street was empty with only the devastation of the dungeon break being left.

'Nothing...'

Her head hung dejected as she looked up at the moon above.

It was not even a second later that she a faint glint from the moon reflected in the alleyway.

Her eyes followed the glint as she squinted.

Her squint soon turned into an unblinking expression.

'Its him!'

Despite her conviction, in the time of a single blink, the alleyway was empty.

Slightly different from the original guys!

I want Lee Joohee to be more active in the story. And honestly, I want her to have more development, alongside a lot of others!

Hope you enjoyed!
