Wind and Speed

-09:15am, Wednesday, Playing Field, Royal Heart College.

She had always known it was her fight.

Long before Slyvester abandoned her in the car, it had always been her fight. And that was why she had always tried to separate herself from Tega as much as she could, in her fight for her mother's attention and affection.

It was her lifestyle!

But the moment Sam went back for Tolu, her lifestyle waivered.

'How do you go back for someone who is as good as hopeless?' She mused, screaming at the top of her lungs for Sam to run.

She had always pushed away from Tega because he kept looking at her for directions and instructions, a hopeless case who couldn't decide what he wanted without involving her.

But here and now, Sam went back for yet another hopeless case. He did not abandon him. But she, she had abandoned Tega many at times, even lying about the exeat and doing all she could to make sure he wouldn't follow if he eventually knew.

Her body trembled as she looked about, trying to see the easier place she could run to for cover. But then, her mum had accused her of abandoning her brother.

Was she going to let that old witch have the satisfaction of her abscounding wherever she was?

'No. I won't abandon you too. I won't be like my mum.' Angela steeled her face, hurling herself over the bonnet on to the dented roof. She settled both legs at the both ends of the SUV, a hand extended, body bent lowly.

She hears Sam giving up. And at that moment, her breathing triples as she clenches her hand. That same familiar feeling explodes in her chest, a nauseous sensation of wanting to throw up. And with the sensation, came the explosion of fierce winds and Earth sharpnel just behind Sam and Tolu.

-09:21am, Thursday, last week of July, Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS Bus Stop.

Exactly why she still had the large camping bag, Angela did not know.

Rather then bother about the extra weight of the bag she dragged, she focused on the nearest place to take cover. The monsters dashed for her with reckless abandon, insatianle bloodlust in their eyes.

She had seen what the monsters were capable of, yes, but then, she had no intentions of becoming mincemeat.

"Leg it, Angie!" She chided herself as her legs began to wane in fatigue.

A slimy, once human, lizard like monster with red eyes and funny piece of tattered clothings on seemed to close in faster that the others. It had a piece of blue material at it's hip that probably was once part of what made a skirt for the person earlier now. With precision, it swung it's three clawed fingers in a wide arc for her face.

"DUCK!" Angela screamed to herself, cutting a sharp right, towards the newly constructed public toilets at the TBS bus stop after hurling the bag to intercept te slash.

Her breath seemed to hang in her mouth as adrenaline pumped into her blood, making her see things slightly faster than they were. Gritting her teeth, she explodes with lesser weight towards the nearest door of the blue public toiltes, her feet pounding mercilessly on the pavement.

Within seconds, she reaches, a horde of monsters following at her back, separated only by an arms breadth of two feet. She does not know how close they are to are but the stinky breaths and growls remind her of that, prompting her to push further, her hands reaching for the lock.

And just as her hands touched the handle, the plastic toilet door shatters, a lizard monster head baring out yellow fangs with bloodshot eyes, diving straight for Angela.

Terrified, she screamed, hands to her face, as clawed fists reach to grab her. "No! HELLP..."

And just then, the Wind explodes, a forceful blast of wind smashing into construction and monster, throwing each and every one far and away from Angela.

-Present Day, Playing Field, Royal Heart College

The wind clears off, the huge dust it had kicked up beginning to settle as Angela stands atop the smashed SUV, on the roof. Towards the female hostel is Sam and Tolu attempting to gain balance.

With precise motion, she jumps off the car, and walks calmly to the confused Horde, just as the dust dissipates, killing intent in her eyes.

"Angela..." Sam yells.

She turned to look at him while clenching and unclenching her fist repeatedly. "It's okay, you guys go to the hostel and get what you need. I'll try to hold them off to cover you two."

"Hold them? That's suicide!" Sam yelled back, new growls ripping into the air as monster begin to congregate, led by the noises at the fields. "That's like a battalion of monsters!"

"I know. Just trust me!"

Just then, a gust tremendously explodes from the Earth, sending webwork infront of Angela and flinging monsters into the air. Just as the monsters begin to free fall, growling in panic as they claw through the air, another short bursts of high speed wind explodes oncemore, flinging them into the air like a grenade at the battle field.

*Huff*

*Huff* *Huff*

Angela huffed, her frame bent as she tried to stabilise her breathing and cope with the tightening grip in her throat that seems suffocate her. Ever since the day people began turning, she had found herself gifted with the ability to control the wind and manifest it in varying frequency.

It was a gift the virus had bestowed on her, but, however, it was not entirely free.

*Cough! She coughed, inhaling the dust through her gasping mouth. Straightening herself, she spat out to her right, spitting mixed with blood.

GROWWWLLL...

Just as she turned to the fight, a lean, grey reptilian monster rushed at her, abnormally long arms swinging at it's sides while it growled hungrily. It swung it's left arm decidedly for her face and she sidestepped, bending a little to the right.

Immediately, the monster twisted in response, presenting it's side and earning a confused gasp from Angela.

SWWOOOSH!

Its tail coursed through the air and homing in for her stomach. She only had seconds to act and quickly, she swung her left hand into a fist across her stomach just as the tail coursed and slammed.

THUD!

"Ommpfh!" Angela groaned, her back slamming into the back of the SUV. "TCH... If I hadn't cushioned my stomach with air, I guess I would be history now." She muttered as she rolled forward, avoiding a claw grab by another monster.

Another monster lunged for her, hands extended as if to catch a ball, red eyes glinting wickedly. Their eyes jammed, and in that moment, Angela's fist clenched as she rose quickly to meet the monster in mid air.

THUD!

BOOOOM!

A gust exploded right at the chest of the monster where Angela's right fist connected. For a brief minute, time seemed to slow down, the monster hanging limply on her fist. And then, the wind exploded once more, harsher than before as the monster shattered into lumps of flesh and fangs, showering down as rain.

Angela stared up using her hands to shield her face from the blood matter.

"Oompfh!" She groaned, staggering backwards as a monster body slammed her, back to the SUV.

Her vision turned upside down, becoming bleary just as she began weightless and slammed hard and fast against the SUV roof.

"Aaaaaaarggghhhhh!" She yelled sharply at the pain as she arched her back. Forcing the pain to the back of her mind, she rolled over to the other side, escaping another clawed strike on the roof.

She falls with a soft thud and jumps to her feet immediately. As she does, she clenches her hand repeatedly, taking flight into the direction of the dinning hall which is towards the North.

"Work, work...come onnnnnn..." Angela cries out, as a defeaning stampede resounds behind her, different hues and shapes of monsters racing after her.

Her fingers feels a soft flowing breeze that forms a soft of cushion around them. Smiling, her hands go wide in a arc, pointing to the ground. And in the next instant, a tornado erupts, dust flying into the air as Angela suddenly is lifted up high into air by the tornado.

The monsters come to a growling halt, smashing into each other as they try to stop in their attempt to jump at the highly elevated Angela but to no avail. The tornado Angles floats on begins to bend, towards the hall, leaving dust in it's trail.

"Come on!" Angela spoke, straining as sweat balls began forming on her forehead despite the aura of winds that cushion her.

"No...No...No..." The tornado flickers off, wheezing slowly into still air as Angela begins to fall, right back into the horde of monsters.

"Comeeeeee ooooon.." She clenched her hands again and the tornado spins back into existence, spinning her away from doom. The monsters follow again and growl in excitement as her tornado flickers off, throwing her back into their horde.

"Come ON!" Tears moistening the edges of her eyes, Angela screams, her throat coarse and parched. She wants to drink but not now, not here.

"Work please..." Angela cries, falling down, face to the sky, down inti the raising claws of monsters in anticipation to receive her.

"Please, work! Work, please..." Angela cried, shutting her eyes while she clenched and unclenched her fists repeatedly. The pressure in her head was no more there any longer. And it scared her. Usually, the pressure would come, a sickening sensation that she had to let out something. And in her attempt to let it out, her mastery of wind would manifest.

But now, she felt nothing. Not even the suffocating sensation in her throat.

Now, she was just the gjrl who abandoned her brother, Tega!

SWOOOOOSSHHHH!

Wind raced past her ears as a feeling of motion descended on her. Except this time, the hands latched to her body, she reasoned, weren't those of the calloused monsters hands.

"You're safe, sis! You're safe now!" The voice repeatedly to her, startling her oncemore. Opening her eyes now, she saw the horde of monsters running futilely after what?

Looking down, she saw that she hung from the back of a green and white jerseyed boy who was racing like the wind, barefooted, huffed warm breathing clashing against side close to the face of her savior.

"Uumrrghh!" She groaned as she suddenly was carried along into a sharp turn, the monsters running on forward while her savior let her down to her feet behind the container tuckshops that lay at the back of the major block of classrooms.

*Huff*

*Huff*

"Angela..." Her savior breathed raggedly putting a hand to his head to stabilise himself while his mouth hung out loosely.

"What? Tega?" Angela cried, jumping back in shock.

"Shsshh... Shsh. N-No Noise. C-Come... Come back!" Tega replied amidst short inhalations as he pointed towards the direction the monsters took.

"Oh!" She muttered, understanding at once. With amazement in her eyes, she ran her hands into his bushy little finger length black hair, examining. "Tega... I'm so sorry!"

"O-oh... W-what... Mu-mummy... " He shook his head warily as he tried speaking but to no avail.

"It's okay! Just relax!" She put in, helping him finding his way down to the ground to seat and lean against the tuckshop. "Catch your breath, okay!"

She joined him too, seating with both legs folded atop each other towards the left while she patted the soft round face of her brother, till his breathing began normalising.

After what seemed like ages, Tega regained himself and spoke. "What Happened? I thought you would be at home."

"I know." She said, turning to look at the deepset stormy grey eyes of her twin. "Thanks for saving me."

"Saving you?" Tega looked like he was ready to bolt. " No, you were awesome. You just had some little slips, that was all."

Angela smirked.
