Fighting Back

1:15pm, Wednesday; Royal Hearts Playing Field.

The sounds of soldiers clicking off their handguns safety locks seemed to spread a sense of fear into every one of the students out there. It was one thing to have to face the beasts of the apocalypse. It was certainly mother thing to have guns trained on them.

Especially on the only one person here who was giving the soldiers a run for their money.

Divine.

Tolu paused, his breathing slowing down as his entire form was frozen. Thoughts did not come to his head as it usually did. He was told aces to even think of anything.

The only thing that bordered on his mind was one thing. Divine was about to be shot. And it’s would all be his fault.

Useless.

Fool.

Nonentity.

Those words churned out of his mind, lashing wickedly against his resolve.

It had been his will that had brought back Digine tot he Hall. now, because of him, the soldiers were going to shoot at her. It was that evident and he knew her blood was to be on him.

His heart churned with self hate. All his life, he had not always been in the top likeability charts for anyone. And when he had ever tried to do something, it seemed as though things would work out for the worst.

Just as it was right now.

If he did not talk to Divine, then Presh pass he would not be here. Ur would not be on him.

But he did. He was guilty if she died.

Unless he did something.

But what exactly could he do?

Sam had theorized that their powers could only work three times in a day. Nobody knew why this was possible but what he did known was that he had exceeded that time.

He had used his newly found power theee times already. There was no way in Hell he was going to pull it off the fourth time.

However the hopelessness of the situation ate at him wickedly. It just brought his uselessness to the forefront. Unlike him, Sam was useful in leadership.

What did he bring to the table? Nothing. And ontop of that, somebody was about to die.

BANG! BANG!! BANG!!

Several gun shots fired out now. The target being Divine who gasped out in fright while Sam shielded her with his body.

“NOOOOOOOOO…” Tolu roared out in desperation.

He stretched both hands to the front, standing on the pavilion while dropping to his knees. Tears streamed down his dirty face, his cry ripping cold shivers down the spine of those who heard it.

In response to his cry, dust exploded into the air, shattering the higsihilitu of everyone. The ground creaked and rumbled, pillars of earth blasting out into heights.

In a short time, the pillars racked together, another resounding crash exploding into the air even as they interlocked.

And when the dust died down, several pillars of Earth had formed a wall. A wall in which protruding bullets trails had been trapped, the bullets itself, dropping uselessly to the ground.

And the shooters, the soldiers with their horrified looks, screamed helplessly as their bodiesbegan to sink.

Down into the miry, earth.

The solid ground they once stood on had completely transformed into quicksand.

The helicopter was not left out. It also began to sink as well.

Inside, Tayo groaned as he facepalmed himself.

“Ahh… this is getting more troublesome than I anticipated.” He shook his head, watching the screen.

“Commanding Officer Tayo, permission to take off?” The pilot’s voice boomed over the intercom.

Unlike the other pilot, this one was not willing to take chances. He knew the extent of officer’s Tayo brutality when he was disobeyed by his officers.

It was why he was asking permission even though the obvious thing was to take off the sinking sand.

“Permission granted. Get us out of here. Calling KillFly Bomber Squad, what’s your position?”

Little static echoed over the intercom for a brief second. After then, the voice of a man boomed.

“Kill Fly Squad Captain Bode, we are approaching the school. ETA 1 minute.”

“Make it faster. I need you here in 2 seconds. Dissuade from the original mission and approach.”

“B-but Sir?”

“Sir me once more and I’ll have your entire fleet blown to bits.” Tayo screamed out.

“ETA, 30 seconds and counting.” The voice squeaked.

Meanwhile, Sam turned to his side. His eyes widened as he viewed the form of his friend on the ground and on his knees.

“How is this possible?” Sam asked, shaking his head. He hurried over, holding Tolu by the right shoulder.

“I-I don’t know. I guess I didn’t want her to die.” Tolu weakly responded.

“Ah! I never knew you had it in you.” Divine smiled as she got to her feet. She was fully recovered already. She blew him a kiss. “Thank you!”

“Guys, we can win.” Angela called out. “They are no longer attacking and the helicopter is lifting.”

She pointed out.

Of the lots of them in the dinning Hall, this handful of resistance forces relaxed. Although most of them had done nothing yet, things had worked out so fine that they did not really have to engage, they were happy.

If they were able to reserve their strength against trained soldiers as these, then it was all for the better.

“We did it.”

“Yay!”

“Whoops!”

“Sam is a genius!”

They called out as they hopped to the Pavilion now, some of them high diving each other. However just about then, several bomber planes swooshed overhead and close by.

SWOOOSH!

SWOOOSH!!

SWOOSHHHH!!

“We tried to take this situation calmly but you refused. All those who refuse rescue would be treated as terrorists and As the CTI, it is our core duty to wipe terrorists out.” The loudspeaker from the chopper blared out.

“We have to a right to freedom of movement.” Sam roared out, triggered. “You can’t force us to do what we don’t want to. And you should not compel us with force either. You should leave. All of you!”

“Yeah!”

“Go!”

“We all agreed to stay!”

“Leave us alone.”

The students cried out with one voice. It was inspiring, to Sam, watching the entire resistance force back him up with cries of solidarity.

For the first time in a while, he did not feel like he had to live up to any responsibility. He just had one thing to do, he just had to talk.

To show them the way.

The gang was already taking the rest of the responsibility.

And for a while, it seemed to be working. The bomber planes, 6 in number merely swooshed past in an aerial display of force. Even going nearly as brushing the hull agaisnt the pavilion. These acts causing the students to duck and run left to right.

Still nothing happened.

It felt like the heavens aaa answering their prayers.

Until everything changed.

“The CTI does not negotiate with Terrorists!” A masculine voice, different from the initial speaker, boomed out now. “Kill Fly Squad, eliminate the flies!”

“Uh? What…” Sam squeaked, shocked by the sudden declaration.

The noise of defiance from the students paused as well. Each of them slowly turning to the back, eyes widened at the now returning bomber planes.

“Everyone…” Sam tried to cry out.

But he was too late.

“RUNNN!”

BOOOOOOOOOOOMM!

Explosive force rocketed agaisnt the pavilion from the plane. A massive of rubbles and debris shattered from the top of the pavilion, the impact shaking the entire structure.

Those who did not get blown off by the explosion found themselves rolling down the pavilion due for the intense shaking of the half destroyed pavilion.

Panic filled the entire force as they shoved and pushed, each one trying to get down from the pavilion. Sam gripped Tolu under his arm and pulled him after him.

Angela made to follow suit but just as she took a step now, an explosion shattered the pavement by the edge, throwing her off course into the air.

Jarred by the impact, she yelled out, her hair fluttering wildly. Until someone’s hand reached for her and grabbed her down.

“I got you!” A somewhat chubby faced male said, his eye dilating as he pulled her down.

With a thankful heart, she nodded to him. They turned to follow the rest of the crew, without saying anything to one another. Indeed, there was no time.

The bombers did not allow for any pause.

BOOOOOOMMM!!

“AHHH!” David yelled sharply.

Angela turned back, her eyes widened as she saw the form of David shattering into a mound of flesh and blood. He was hit.

Directly.

“No!” Angela cried out, her limbs freezing on the spot. Tears streamed out her eyes at the very instant.

“Sister, we got to go!” Tega cried out as he blurred to the back of his sister. He stopped, inhaling.

The next moment, he sped forward, skillfully leaping on the still standing steps that had not been destroyed. His body lifted, turning off in a bicycle kick as his foot slammed against a projectile.

BOOOM!

A bomber plane went down, exploding on impact of the bomb.

Seeing this, Angela’s heart lit up. If Tega could do that, then they had a chance. No one else was going to die.

Not on her watch.

She inhaled, deeply.

Next, Angela screamed, throwing her hands wide apart.

And the wind answered.
