1 Fever Dream

If you were to tell Midoriya Izuku that today would be the day Shinsou uses his quirk on him to do harm, he'd laugh it off saying Shinsou couldn't, not with the side effect of his quirk (and his striving heart of a hero); but today it seems luck was not on his side and a fever taking it's place.

  .................................…

Shinsou had just learned (with the help of Aizawa, of course) that he can increase the effectiveness of his quirk depending on the situation. For example, if his emotions were strong enough, because of the bond his mind shares with the other person, it effectively traps them to more of a degree; more than a small bump would be needed to knock them out of it.

The problem with it: He could've had a chance to get into the hero course from the start with that revelation.

With that anger directed towards himself, as well as the obvious fever he was sporting, Shinsou really needed to go to class and shrug the feeling off, but first he has to deal with Midoriya's passive-aggressive pestering in an attempt to get him to go back to bed.

He doesn't listen to Midoriya of course, but his headache had been getting worse with each word and he wants Midoriya to just stop (he hadn't however noticed how blurry his sight had been getting, nor his lack of empathy for the green-haired teen rambling in front of him).

"Midoriya, why won't you just stop!" He snaps, not noticing Midoriya's flinch or the stuttering mess of words that came after.

"I-I-I j-just-" And there's his moment, his chance to get out of this mess. Midoriya's eyes suddenly go slack in the middle of the abandoned hallway, void of life as Shinsou commands him to do the one thing that would keep Midoriya away from him all day: "Break your bones or something, Midoriya, and leave me alone already!"

He puts all of his strength into this unknowingly, and with horror Shinsou realizes he never said "use your quirk".

Midoriya suddenly jolts, body moving as it's supposed to as Shinsou watches, desperately willing himself to lose control of his friend damnit. His prayers go unanswered.

  .................................…

If Shouta was ready for anything, anything at all, it was decidedly not this. He knew the moment his student walked in there that something had happened to his problem child. Again.

"Sensei- I-I used my quirk on Midoriya because he wanted me to go back to the dorms, a-and I told him to break his bones, and I can't get him to stop hitting the walls! I didn't want to hurt him..I just wanted t-to go to class..." Shinsou says as his voice lowers slightly.

And fuck, he was not prepared for this. At all.

"You WHAT!?" Was the only thing Shouta could say as he rushed outside his office, hoping that his child student was okay, only to find Midoriya hitting himself repeatedly, eyes devoid of light.

Shit.

"Shinsou, help me get Midoriya to Recovery Girl. Now!" He screamed urgently.

"I can't go near him, I told him to stay away from me!" Shinsou said. Just great, of course now would be the time he mentions it.

"Go get Hizashi- Shinsou-" Shinsou interrupts him. "Who?" "Present Mic, go get Present Mic," He replies hastily, struggling to pin Midoriya down as he convulses on the ground, still trying to free himself to finish the task.

He felt like he was going to vomit just looking at the state of his arms and- shit.

His arms are definitely broken.

Come on Shinsou.

  .................................…

Hizashi is so very confused, following Shinsou who currently hasn't said anything, looking incredibly guilty and traumatized. He was not expecting to see his friend fighting to hold Midoriya's writhing body.

"Woah woah woah, what happened here?!" Hizashi says, still totally oblivious. "No time to explain, we need to get to Recovery Girl."

He still is questioning what the hell is going on, but for now Midoriya needs medical treatment. He'll worry about that later.

His mind tells him he's shaking while holding Midoriya, but at this point he doesn't care.

This is his listener and he will not die today.

  .................................…

Shinsou wants to apologize forever, cry, or pass out. Most likely the latter, but as it is he kind of can't seeing how involved he is in this.

"Why can't you use your quirk on me?" He asks, apparently scaring Aizawa-sensei seeing as he jumped slightly.

"We don't know what will happen if I do as your quirk is working long term, and with the injuries Midoriya has, I don't think he'll want to be responsive about this right now." Aizawa-sensei says.

"Even though that's a valid point, shouldn't we-"

"We're here!" Yamada-sensei says, interrupting Shinsou.

  .................................…

She hears a soft "We're here" from behind the door before she sees them. And oh boy, Shuzenji doesn't like what she sees.

Midoriya still spasms in Hizashi's arms, most likely the source of the multiple cracking sounds coming from their area. His eyes are dull, and he doesn't seem to be thinking clearly.

It's not pretty.

She kisses Midoriya swiftly, and with the collective sigh out of the way, she places Midoriya down.

"He's never going to be able to move his arms again, most likely. If he is, we can make braces for him. It'll be hard, but he'll be okay."

Shinsou's eyes are wide and watery, and she gets up to grab a weighted blanket. He thanks her and sits down.

"Recovery Girl. What can we do to help? Are you sure there's no doctors that can reverse the effects?"

"Not that I know of, but you can ask around. Hopefully we can get someone who has a quirk like that, but with happenstances that are this finicky the chances are slim." She states.

Another sigh.

They leave reluctantly, promising to come back.

Shuzenji sighs. It's been a while since it's been this bad, but it's not Midoriya's fault this time. She shooes them out, glancing worriedly at Midoriya before starting back on her work.

  .................................…

"Do you think he'll be okay?" Shinsou says guiltily. "..He'll be fine, after a while. Be careful Shinsou, you don't want to hurt him again. Despite you not having a "villainous" quirk, you can still do harm if you aren't careful. And nobody wants to see you become a villain more than your mind, so watch out." Shouta finally says, certainty in his voice.

"I won't become a villain, but I can acknowledge the possibility. Midoriya is far from fragile, but he is breakable just like all of us. I guess I just need a couple of weeks to think on it before I apologize. I think he'd appreciate it more."

"Good to hear you're thinking clearly."

Shinsou blushes, embarrassed, as he feels Shouta sit down beside him. They sit there for a moment, thinking everything over, before Shouta gets up again and picks him up.

"Wha-"

"You're still feverish, and I have to get to class. I don't want to see you in there anytime soon, got it?"

"Yes sensei. Thank you."

"And Shinsou? It's not your fault. You weren't fully coherent, and you did something even I would do if I were you in that situation. You stayed somewhat calm and got him help, and that's all I could've asked for." Aizawa says before shutting the door.

Shinsou's eyes water, and he nods to no one in particular, smiling though the tears.
