ch 9- Axe man

Mirik's POV-

"Get ready boy. This walrus is going to shred you to pieces." the man with the axe said.

"So your codename is walrus huh. I have to say you are quite stupid." I said with a smirk. I knew the workings of the Garden through and through. The man was shocked that the rabbit was out of the hat. He looked a bit serious now. He started moving towards me slowly. I looked for the opportunity when he was in the middle of taking a step forward and dashed towards him. When I got closer to him I thrust my hand towards his chest with an open palm. But he stopped the strike with the handle of his axe.

"Don't you know that walrus is as fast as humans on land?" he looked at me like I was some kid. But he was forgetting one thing. I was not an average human and second I didn't need to be faster than him. I could have punched him but I chose an open palm so that his axe was within my hold. the most dangerous thing right now was his axe so I had to take that option of his. Now I just had to take his weapon away.

"You are seriously underestimating me. Walrus has one of the strongest jaw strengths, you think you can take my axe with that kind of power," he said this while his spirit latched onto the axe with its jaw. He shook his axe which made me lose my grip. His power disturbed my centre of mass and I started falling to my side. He used this moment to kick me and create some distance and unleash his axe.

But to his surprise, I caught his kick and using my falling momentum made him spin and fall with me. We both hit the ground at the same time. Because of the unexpected result, he was a bit shocked, but he was an experienced fighter and he wanted to get on his feet as soon as possible. But I was faster than him and using both my legs and hands gave him a basic leg lock. Unlike MMA I didn't need to make him tap out. I put strength into my arms and broke his ankle.

Walrus writhed in pain and using his other leg pushed me away from his body. I slid a bit and stood up by propelling my body with my hands. Walrus also stood with the help of his axe. His right leg was completely useless now. He looked at me with both fear and anger. I thought he was going to say something but it looked like he was in no mood for games.

His eyes started shining and the spirit of the walrus started swimming in the air. His aura increased until the atmosphere became so thick that even breathing became harder. He used his ultimate skill related to his spirit which made both him and me float in the air which was now as dense as water.

Now his broken leg was not a disadvantage to him and using his walrus spirit he would be much faster and more agile than me. I was in a bad position.

He looked at me with contempt. He moved a bit and the next second he was in front of me. He slashed downwards with his axe. I dodged by a hairbreadth and rolled to the side, more like swam. When I looked at him again after the dodge his axe was in front of my face again. I ducked. He continued his barrage of attacks and I just kept weaving and dodging him. He became to get frustrated and tired. Although it was difficult for me to move with agility in a dense environment, dodging was not that hard for me. His eyes were starting to get dimmer with every second and the density of the atmosphere was also getting back to normal.

After some time he lost all the power he had and was back to normal.

"Looks like the walrus is a bit tired, want me to throw a treat or something to you." I taunted him. He wasn't affected by it and looked at me.

"Why were you looking for the killer of a normal office man? It doesn't make sense. By your fighting skills, I can tell you are from some secret family or some apprentice of the grandmaster. I don't get why the Garden wanted me to kill that guy but I only follow orders. Maybe someone there had a grudge against him but you, why are you willing to go against the Garden for some nobody. I don't get it." he asked while gasping.

"Because he was family a**hol*." I grunted.
