ch 17- negotiation

Mirik's POV-

She thrust her spear towards me but I dodged and grabbed her wrists pulling her towards me and elbowing her face. I could feel my blood boiling, my rage was trying to burst out but I was controlling it. If I were to kill someone here I would never be able to face my uncle.

The girl after getting elbowed lost her footing and was falling to the ground but I stopped her from falling and again pulled her towards me and used her as a meat shield. The two girls stopped their attacks before they reached me.

"So why don't we have a talk?" I said with a smile.

The girls looked at me with anger which was justified but I noticed something. They were not concerned as much as I thought they would be. Maybe they trusted me or.....they believed they could still take me down. Then it suddenly came to me. How could they all have spears to fight when they threw one at me before? I looked at the tree where the arrow was lodged into. It was gone and that could only mean one thing. There was one more with them.

As I was in my thoughts a spear flew towards me at a great speed. It was thrown at me with the thought that I would let the girl go so that I could dodge it. Even if I used her as a meat shield I was going to get hit anyway. This one was ruthless, he or she betted that I would let the girl go, and if I didn't then too it was my loss. I racked my brains up.

If I let the girl go then fighting with the four of them was too much for me. It would become a battle of endurance and I would probably get killed.

The spear was just about to hit me. I had to make a decision here and I chose to let the girl go. But I was finessed again by the hidden person. They had me believe that they were just carrying one spear each but I was so wrong. I was in the middle of the dodge when another spear was thrown from the forest toward me. There was no dodging it, I was going to die. But even in death, I was angry with myself. I should have killed the girl rather than using her as a meat shield. It was my loss.

I could see the death coming towards me when another spear came from the other side and hit the spear changing its trajectory. The spear missed me. I could live to see another day. I looked in the direction from where my saving grace came. A boy not older than 17 or 18 came out of the forest. He went and checked on the girl I elbowed and signaled something towards the other two girls. The picked the girl up and followed behind him.

It was then that another girl walked out of the forest and came straight toward me. She gripped her spear and was about to hit me when the boy shouted at her.

"Enough! Stop it, Kiara." he said in a commanding tone.

"What do you mean stop Bala? He tried to kill big sister." she asked while pointing at me.

"And who was the one who started this game? If I remember correctly it was you." Bala said making Kiara look down towards the ground while grinding her teeth.

"Are you all right bro? We didn't mean to do any harm to you. If you can please try to forgive us. It's just that not many outsiders come to our village so we are not very sociable and easily get ready to fight. Let me introduce myself, I am Bala." he said while extending a hand towards me. I don't know why but he gave me a sense of security. I grabbed his extended arm.

"What the hell do you want with us?" Kiara asked in annoyance.

"Where are your manners, Kiara? Is this how you treat a guest?" he scolded her again. Maybe he was her brother.

"Now, I would welcome our guest to the humble village of Kala." he said with open arms.
