ch 13- chain 3

Mirik's POV-

Looking at my father or even my uncle I could have never thought that we had a family with martial arts history. Only a few in the world knew about spirits. For normal people, this was a normal world with that boring repetitive life but underneath the surface were hidden clans and families with literal superpowers. And now I had a way of learning to manifest a spirit for myself.

"Mirik before learning how to manifest the spirits I have to tell you about the history of spirits and how people develop them," he said while sipping tea. The world inside the chain was an imaginary world built by Adi Diman. Before he died he put a part of his soul into the chain by some technique and passed it on to his son. He could make the world in whatever form he wanted. So the tea he was sipping was fake too, he just liked the feeling of drinking the tea.

"Spirits have existed in the world since the dawn of times. Spirits are developed by a person by deep attachments to something or some trauma. Even doing mundane tasks daily can give birth to spirits. For example, people practicing swords every day can develop the spirit of swords. But they have to either love what they are doing or make a contract with the spirit. But contracted spirits are not as strong as spirits that come from deep within the heart." he stopped and took another sip of the tea.

"Anybody can develop spirits. But if you have a weak heart it might consume you. Normal people who develop spirits are often haunted by them. Contracted spirits take over the body and destroy it if the owner of the body has a weak heart. But you don't need to worry about that." he added confidently.

"How did you manifest your spirit?" I asked him. Being the founder of the family means he had no help from anybody or maybe he had a mentor or something. So I had to ask this question.

"I was born an orphan. The man who took me in and treated me like his son was killed later by his own blood, his son with help of his friends. My father was a normal man, he used to work as a gardener in some rich man's house. We weren't rich but eating twice a day was not hard. When I and my wretched brother were twelve or thirteen he got involved with the thugs around town. He started asking for more and more money from our father. He used to ask him for money and gamble it all away. One day he came with his thug friends and asked for a hefty sum of money from our father which he refused. He with his friends beat up the old man until he was dead." Adi took a deep breath.

"I came home at night and saw the old man lying on the floor bloodied. I shouted for help but no one came. The neighbors seemed to ignore the cries of a boy asking for help. Not only neighbors but everyone seemed to go deaf at that time. At that, something inside me bloomed. Anger, uncontrollable anger took me over. I manifested my spirit at that time. With its help I wiped out the entire city." he said sending shivers down my spine.

"I'm not proud of it but at that time I was not able to control my spirit. I don't want you to go down the same path that's why I'm telling you all these things. I will make sure you don't go on a rampage." he stood up and looked down on me.

"It's time for you to go. Come back when you are free." he walked towards the door and left.

I was left alone but not for long as darkness crept up on me and swallowed me whole. I woke up gasping and looked around the room and sure enough, I was back in my apartment. I opened my fist and the chain was in there. I sighed thinking about what I had seen last night. I got up from the bed and went in front of the mirror. I put the chain around my neck.

I could feel the aura of the chain of remembrance.
