1 Chapter 1

Daniel walked up to the bus stop while putting on his usual playlist. Next to him at the station was a young man about his own age, probably, maybe a year or two older. He was standing, looking at his phone and smiling merrily.

Dan brought up the time on his phone;

'It'll be at least another 10 minutes until the bus is here. Given it'll be on time...'

Just as he was about to put his trusty, old digital companion away, a new notification popped up.

[U up for a raid in BoG later tonight?]

He replied:

[sure, I just need to finish the assignment for the programming lecture tomorrow. I've been putting it off the whole week, and it's due tomorrow. Have you finished it already?]

[Oh fuck! Do you think prof will be way mad about it?]

[Why am I not surprised a bit...]

While both fellas at the bus stop were distracted with their phones, something weird was happening at the skyscraper just a dozen meters behind them...

A lift used for window cleaning was resting in the topmost position next to the building's roof. The cleaning crew decided not to bother with going back down to have their lunch break. Instead, they left the lift hanging and were having a good time, sitting on a ridge atop the skyscraper and eating their lunch.

A pigeon landed next to the lift, a ghastly, blue light in its eyes.

As unusual as it may sound, the bird was thinking:

'This might be the single best opportunity to take the shot. If the bitch had given me a bit more time, it might have worked without any collateral damages. Hehe...'

It hopped over to the rim and snapped its beak in the air.

'Nothing personal, kid.'

With a deafening sound, two bolts holding the winch mechanism together gave in and sent the lift flying downwards on our two unsuspecting boys.

Suddenly Dan had a cold sensation run down his spine, but before he knew what was up, the lift cabin ... arrived at its intended destination.

It didn't hurt; It happened way too fast for it to hurt.

Just a few seconds ago, he was standing there, minding his own business, and now he was looking at a gruesome mess of tangled steel and gore, all that was left of his and the other boy's body.

'If that is my body, how am I still looking at it?' Dan thought absentmindedly.

'My Body... My ... BODY!' he was beginning to realize something was not right. Not right at all.

He tried to pinch himself but couldn't. How could he? He had no arms he could move.

As the panic was beginning to take him over, he noticed something else. Right next to him, in thin air, was a translucent figure. He recognized the boy from the bus station. He also was looking around in confusion.

'Are we ... dead?' Dan thought.

Before he could make up his mind, a glowing figure appeared.

"I'm sorry it had to come to this, Jake. Now come with me!" The Figure said with a mighty yet definitely feminine voice. She approached the other boy, Jake apparently, took him by the arm, and pulled him away.

"Wait! And what's with me?" Dan shouted in a panic. He didn't want to be left alone. What was he supposed to do?

She stopped and turned towards him as if she just noticed him. He could now see her face, her stunningly beautiful face.

"Oh, that is unfortunate." She muttered with significantly less warmth in her voice than last time.

"Wait here. I first need to take care of Jake here. After all, he was the reason I had to resort to such ... extreme measures. I'll come back, and we'll think about what to do with you. It is my fault, after all. Hi hi!"

And just like this, the beautiful, radiant lady and the young man next to her disappeared. Dan was left alone.

He looked around him to see what was happening around the site of the accident. But nothing was happening. It was as if the time itself stood still. He observed a leaf in the process of falling off a tree, frozen in place. A teen girl with dark hair and a coffee cup in hand, just a block away and obviously heading for the unfortunate bus station, looked in disbelieve at the remains.

'Sophie!'

He knew her. She was attending the same university as him. He always had something for her, for her kind and delicate facial features, her smile, and of course, her curves. Even with her face frozen in shock, her face had something naive and beautiful to it.

'I should have asked her out that one time... And now I can't... Did I have a chance with her? Probably not; with a body like this, she ought to be popular.'

Suddenly Dan felt an urge to move closer to her to have a good last look. He tried to move towards her but couldn't move an inch. Moving isn't that trivial as an incorporeal being. Then he concentrated on this desire of his; Put his entire essence into it; And oh wonder:

'It works!'

Slowly but steadily, his soul( or spirit, or whatever he currently was) floated in her direction. Now up close to her and seeing every little detail of Sophie's face, he felt regret rising up inside him.

'I should have tried at least...'

But before he could sink any deeper in self-pity and despair, the radiant lady reappeared. She took him by his hand, and just like this, the street, the leaf, and Sophie disappeared. All went dark.

They were standing in a colossal throneroom.

"And now to you, mortal. You must be puzzled about what exactly just happened to you. Let me explain. I am the one and only great goddess of life and reincarnation, Asuvis! And to save one of the worlds in my domain, I needed a strong and righteous Hero. But for me to reincarnate him in my world, he had to ... well, die. And so I sent my dutiful servant Hadugar to take care of it. I'm afraid you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But fear not, for I am a merciful goddess! I shall reincarnate you in one of my many other worlds, and no, I can not bring you back to your own world."

'What is this, some lowkey novel about a nerd who gets reincarnated in a magical world?!' Dan thought to himself.

He probably should have felt more upset about the fact of, well, him DYING! But as he was thinking about it, his life has been very bland in the last few years.

'After all, how bad could it be...'

In his head, he already imagined himself, in a huge Suit of Black armor, with a massive sword in hand and one, no, three beautiful princesses by his side.

A dumb grin crept on his face and his mouth watered.

Asuvis poked his shoulder: "are you there?" and waved her hand in front of his face.

When she saw that she got his attention back, she continued.

"And as compensation, mortal, I shall grant you three wishes! Are you THANKFUL?!" The last word thundered through the throne room.

Dan felt his knees weaken and immediately stumbled in his most subservient voice:

"Your greatness and Your kindness know no bounds, oh glorious Asuvis!"

"Now that's better! Now, what is thy bidding, mortal!? I haven't got all day!"

'What shall I wish for?! What shall I wish for?' Dan was nervously thinking about what to wish for. He wanted so much but could only choose so little!

"I'M WAITING!"

'Aaah!'

Dan still wasn't sure what he wanted to say, but he didn't want to risk and test the goddess' patience.

"Yes, of course, oh great goddess of reincarnation! I wish for great strength, an attractive body, and lots of sex in my life!"

"Very well," she said with a malicious grin widening across her face. "Very well."

Suddenly Dan had a very bad feeling about all of this...

The world went black around him, and he lost his consciousness.

Little did poor Dan know. Gods could never lie to mortals, and if they promised something, they would deliver. But exactly because of this unbreakable rule, there were no more sly creatures in any world than the gods.

Always telling the truth and nothing but the truth and always holding true to their promises, they do both in a beautifully wicked way.

And little did he know that even among gods, his acquaintance was known as a treacherous bitch.

Poor, poor Dan.
