19 The Alarm

How long have I been deceiving myself about the true person I am? Dominic didn't know, but lately, the person he had been revealing was someone who simply filled him with a sense of confidence; feeling in control exhilarated him, and knowing he could achieve much more than he ever could before excited him.

"I have control..." Dominic woke up slightly agitated and looked at his hands, which in his dreams were stained with blood, but now that he had woken up, everything had returned to normal. His long, black hair slid over his cheeks, hiding much of his appearance; his lost gaze regained focus, and after stabilizing his breathing, he sat down to try to calm himself.

Control over Dominic's emotions was something that kept him in line with what he wanted to achieve. No one should know him except Tobias; he was the only one who knew who he really was. Others only saw him as just another face in the crowd, an insignificant teenager who had no idea what was going on.

After a while, he turned his head, looked at the slightly dark space outside the window, unconsciously touched his face, remembered the real scene in the dream a moment ago, and, for some reason, suddenly had a feeling of déjà vu. But in a trance, the dream things became blurry and unreal, and when Dominic tried to remember them carefully, he couldn't remember anything at all.

Sighing helplessly, Dominic stopped thinking about it for the moment, lifted the blanket covering his body, and got out of bed. He walked straight to the bathroom, reached for a bucket of water, held the water with both hands, and splashed his face directly. The water touched his cheeks, instantly making him much more sober.

After wiping off the remaining water stains on his face, he lifted his head and looked at himself in the mirror in front of him. In the mirror, there was a nineteen-year-old teenager with messy hair and an expression lacking in positive emotions.

Throughout this time, somehow the lives he had taken, despite feeling very few emotions while doing so, had caused some slight and very perceptible changes in him. Dominic looked down, looked at the water, and the reflection showed his face with a very different sensation.

Dominic took off the sweat-soaked white shirt and revealed his slim but sturdy body. He took a towel from the bathroom and started cleaning himself. There were several scars on his body, many of which were caused by the tough training he underwent with his father. As far as he remembers, Sergei was not an affectionate father, but he taught Dominic what he needed so that no one would hurt him if he was ever gone.

Dominic never blamed him; he couldn't because this was his new life, and therefore a new opportunity awaited him. After freshening up, he left the bathroom, hung the dirty clothes on a chair, then took out a set of black clothes from the closet that he always wore and began to change. He walked to the table, where all his things were, and took a single knife before leaving the house.

Today would be the day he would meet with Nelson; he had chosen that man because he was extremely intelligent and good at negotiating. He knew that as long as he fulfilled his part of the deal, he could have the opportunity to have new workers in the refuge. Currently, everyone who had moved to his refuge totaled 150 people, more than a hundred of whom were strong and healthy adults, which was important. The houses being built perfectly met everyone's needs, and this would be the case until they slowly reclaimed human territory in the future.

As for how this place would be at the end of the day, it was estimated that at least a thousand people would end up taking refuge here if the private security group, along with their families and colleagues, moved here.

By the time Dominic left the house, his long hair was tied in a ponytail, and without hesitation, he got on his sports motorcycle and accelerated towards the refuge. In these days, besides placing security houses in special sites to have control over many things in the future, he also carefully analyzed how he would take control over all those who would work for him.

Truth be told, he didn't know how this would turn out, but he knew one thing: he would survive regardless of anything that happened. Surviving in a world like this, where there would be walkers, excited him; precisely for that reason, he didn't want to lack anything by then.

"Dominic, the alarms against those things have been much more concerning than in the past few days. Should we send the alarm now?" Legolas called Dominic, who was driving at the moment.

Dominic thought about it; he hadn't secured a private security group yet, so he refused and said, "Not yet; I'll call you later."

The most important thing was to have his things secured so that there would be control; without these key factors, it would be much better not to involve strangers in his refuge, no matter how bad it may seem. At least he had Oscar on his side along with his family, totaling at least thirty reliable people; many knew how to use weapons, so that was enough to have a certain level of control over his surroundings. Of course, only a few knew what was happening.

By the time Dominic arrived at the warehouses' surroundings, which were now being used by him without any consideration for the original owners, a group of people approached, and Oscar's brother got off, holding a shotgun.

"I like that shotgun. Are you going to shoot me?"

Rafael saw that it was Dominic and waved his hand. "It's the boss; let him through."

"Is everything okay?" Dominic took off the black helmet and asked, genuinely interested.

Rafael looked around and nodded. "Everything's fine; no one will enter with us watching, and the security cameras are operational."

"Has my guest arrived?"

"He's waiting for you."

Dominic nodded, revved up the engine, and entered the complexes, now all protected with mesh. They couldn't put up anything more resistant, but this was more than enough for now.

When he arrived at the most important warehouse, Dominic entered and headed towards his office, where he saw the man waiting for him.

"Sir..." Nelson stood up to greet him but stopped when he saw it was just a teenager.

Dominic extended his hand and asked, "Surprised? I'm the boss."
