Something Unexpected

The imposing figure of Dominic, leader of the New Dawn Unification, stood tall in the open space. As he surveyed the surroundings, observing how nature had rapidly reclaimed the area over the past few years, Elizabeth walked beside him. She was the leader of the CRM, an equally influential and once mysterious organization, had he not known her.

Dominic frowned as he saw her walking beside him but maintained his composure and invited her to appreciate the place surrounding them. The atmosphere grew tense as the two leaders studied each other, fully aware of the power and influence each held.

Elizabeth broke the silence, her voice soft yet firm, resonating in the room. "Dominic, the last few days have been difficult for everyone. Our resources are depleted, and our followers struggle to survive in this desolate world. We face an uncertain future, and we must make tough decisions."

"Like eliminating communities with thousands of people?" Dominic smirked sarcastically and pointed out to Elizabeth, "You know, my organization has even tried to save the worst devils this shitty world has created, and sometimes we succeeded, sometimes we failed..."

"Now, we both know each other well, so don't give me the sermon about lacking resources when you eliminate entire communities just because of your peculiar operational policy."

Dominic sighed, acknowledging the truths in her words. "I'm aware of the difficulties we face. But you must understand, Elizabeth, that the Unification will not bow to any other organization. We've fought and sacrificed too much to get here, so you should know that none of my men would be swayed by your CRM's compromised system."

Elizabeth remained calm, her penetrating gaze meeting Dominic's eyes. "I understand your stance. But we must consider the well-being of humanity as a whole. There cannot be two orders that endanger the world. That, I will not allow, even if I have to eliminate your organization."

Elizabeth's words hung in the air, laden with authority and coldness. Dominic moved aside, his expression serious. "Elizabeth, we have worked tirelessly to protect and help those in need. We're not here to usurp power or sow chaos. Our mission is to restore hope and justice in a world."

"I really don't care who leads this country; we'll be dead when we fully recover it." Dominic expressed his clear thoughts but then added, "But even so, I won't let my efforts be in vain in this world that has fallen into darkness."

"We know you have the naval power that belonged to this country. We need that power on the border with Canada," Elizabeth said something unexpected that Dominic couldn't understand.

"Is something happening in Canada?"

"This happened a few days ago. One of the cities we had recovered fell to the walkers in just a few hours." Elizabeth showed Dominic a video where thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of walkers were scaling a wall.

All those walkers were different from any Dominic had ever seen in his life. Not only were they faster, but they were also stronger and much more lethal.

"Are all the infected in Canada like them?" Dominic asked, as he wasn't very informed.

"Yes, but they don't venture beyond the border we have with Canada... Only until now, it seems they're getting closer to our country because there probably aren't any more humans to infect in Canada," Elizabeth said, putting away her cellphone.

"Shall we negotiate after eliminating them our unification?"

"That would be best. If those kinds of infected reach our country, we'll die before knowing who will lead this world."

Dominic fell silent, called Stuart, and said, "Send twenty bomber jets to these coordinates. Order them to bomb the border cities of Canada as soon as possible."

Stuart didn't know what was happening but nodded, called Alicia, and began issuing orders.

"That will only buy us a month's time. The other infected will reach our country's cities." Dominic looked at the map and said, "My fleet can move to the Canadian islands and take them one by one, doing a complete cleanup."

"We can stop those infected if we take the border cities of our country, but we would need to mobilize all our military power." Dominic wouldn't rush to make these decisions; he first needed to know everything was real.

"Who will be the commander of this unification?"

Elizabeth looked at Dominic and said, "You are the most experienced. Okafor spoke very highly of your adaptation to the end of the world."

"Prepare your people for the meeting. If anyone causes a problem, I hope you have replacements."
