Chapter 246 - Sweet Dreams

I noticed that the area under his eyes was slightly dark. He also looked more tired than usual. Curious, I asked, "Have you not slept well these days, Max?"

He avoided my gaze. "I'm fine. It doesn't bother me anyway."

My eyes narrowed at his evasive answer, then I pulled out my hand from his.

Holding him by the cheeks, I turned his head so that he would face me. "Don't look away. I'm right here." Max slowly nodded. I was proud of how well he listened, but I still had to ask him something, so I held back a smile. "How long have you not slept?"

"Three days," he said quietly.

The moment I heard those words, I immediately pulled him to the bed.

"Jubelian?" he called in a confused tone. It sounded like he didn't understand what was happening.

Patting the bed, I ordered, "Lie down."

'Does she even know what she sounds like?' With trembling eyes, Max glanced at the innocent-looking lady. He swallowed dryly. 'She obviously meant nothing, but…' All sorts of fantasies came to his mind for a moment. Peeking at Jubelian, Max opened his mouth. "What about Master?"

"He went out somewhere," she sounded oblivious.

Max put on a sinister smile. His master was not in the mansion. It was the golden opportunity to hug her and kiss her as much as possible. "Jubelian, how about…" he began, but he was stopped by her reaching out and untying the knot on his cloak. Max's eyes widened.

Smiling, the lady suggested, "You must be tired. You should sleep for just a little bit."

'Does she not see me as a man…? To realize she's so defenseless like this…' Max sighed. It had been a while since he had felt fatigued. It felt just like the night he had first visited her and fallen asleep in the room. 'Still, it would be a pity to fall asleep right away.' Max didn't want to waste their precious time together. 'I'm just sleepy. All I have to do is endure it. I can do it…' Max decided. However, Jubelian yawned and buried her face in his chest.

"I'm sleepy too," she mumbled.

Max couldn't help but smile. He was completely defeated once again. "Okay, then let's sleep."

The two soon got in bed. They had spent quite a bit of time together until now.

However seeing each other in bed was different, and rather than burning with desire, they were simply touched by each other's presence.

'Perhaps there will come a day when we will wake up next to each other like this—as family,' Max dreamed.

A warm feeling spread through his heart. At the same time, he was afraid that he might lose her. If he could, Max wanted to stay by Jubelian's side forever.

'I know I'm not good enough for you… I just hope you won't hate me for my shortcomings.'

As Max looked at her with emotion-filled eyes, she said, "Give me a hug, Max." He stretched his arm out, and Jubelian laid her head on top of it. Max blushed from the ticklish sensation on his arm and the fact that her face was closer than before. Jubelian gave a sudden kiss on his cheek. "Good night."

His worries were relieved by the same words that had brought him peace during their initial meeting. 'My haven.' With a faint smile, Max brought her closer to him and whispered, "Good night."

As soon as he heard her breathing grow even, he, too, surrendered himself to deep slumber.
