Chapter 1

*DORIS POV*

I was out in the front yard playing with my mother when my father arrived with someone else. My mother and I both stopped what we were doing and watched as he approached us. He introduced us to the woman as his new mate. Her name was Amy. We both stood there in shock and confusion.

My father then turned to my mother and told her to leave his house. He said that he wanted Amy to move in and that there was no place for my mother anymore. My mother and I just stared at him in disbelief. We had been living together as a family for as long as I could remember, and now he was just kicking us out?

My mother tried to argue, but my father just kept repeating that he wanted Amy to move in and that there was no place for us. I could feel my heart breaking in my chest as I watched my mother's face crumble. I wanted to reach out and hug her, to tell her that everything would be okay, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Finally, my mother looked at me and told me to go inside. I could see the pain in her eyes, but she was trying to be strong for me. I nodded and walked back into the house, my father and Amy watching me as I went.

Once I was inside, I collapsed against the door and let the tears run down my face. I had never felt so betrayed and heartbroken in my life. I had lost my family, and there was nothing I could do about it. I was a werewolf girl, and my father had just kicked me out of my own home.

I stood up to check on them outside. I saw my mother talking, tears rolling down her face as she spoke to my father. Amy, his new lover, stood with her hands on her waist, watching my mother as though she was a mad woman. My heart broke even more. I watched my father, who was calmly staring at her. He nodded at intervals and shook his head. He looked like he was being controlled.

Suddenly, I watched as my father drew his hands from his pockets and slapped my mother. I gasped. My mother looked at him in shock as she turned to ask him why? Why did he do that? Amy smiled. It looked like she had wanted my father to slap my mother all along.

My mother held her hands to her cheeks talking as I watched my father want to slap her again. I could not bare it, so I jumped on my feet, opened my door and ran outside to my mother's side.

"Dad, what is wrong with you? What has mommy done?" I asked, my innocent face glaring at him.

"Doris, you better get back inside before I am forced to slap you too" my father answered.

"You will do no such thing to my child. Jeffrey, have you gone mad?" My mother asked. She was struggling to get on her feet and my small feeble frame was not useful for her to lean on. She was finally up and facing my dad when Amy interrupted.

"Look, Jeffrey said he doesn't want you anymore. Why don't you take a chill pill and go away" she said as she did a mini wave at my mom. I turned to look at my mom. My mother was not the type to let things like that go.

"Listen here, you little bitch!" That was my mother talking. Jane was not a woman anyone could mess with. I watched as she spoke, listening to learn new curse words. But as I was listening, my father suddenly closed my ears. Why? What the hell was this man doing?

"Jane. Why would you call Amy a bitch? Especially in front of Doris!! She is just a little girl for goodness sake. We have a child here!!!" My father yelled at my mother. She turned to me and smiled.

"Doris baby, " I nodded, "Yes mommy"

She smiled and squatted to my level. "Mommy is going to be using some curse words for your daddy and your daddy's friend" she held my shoulder, "These are bad words and you will only be allowed to use them when you grow up. Okay?" I nodded again.

My mother stood to her feet as she turned to face Amy." Now that that is settled, back to you bitch" she continued. "I do not know what you have done to my husband and the child of my father, but you better get your things and get out of here" she said as she leaned in closer to Amy. Amy leaned in closer too. It looked like a fight would break out but suddenly, my father left my side and pushed both ladies away from each other. He turned to face his Amy, "Honey, get inside while I deal with this"

Amy turned to leave as she stuck her tongue out to my mother and I. Father saw that and smiled, he then kept a straight face and turned to my Mother, Jane.

"Look Jane. You and I know this. For a while now, this marriage has not been working and I am tired of pretending. I found someone I like and I hope you find someone too" he turned to me, "you can keep Doris if you want, but I will need you to take your things and get out of my house. Amy will need to get comfortable in my house" he said as he slowly tapped her shoulder and turned to walk away.

I looked to my mother's face, she had tears in her eyes. She looked heartbroken, I remembered.

We had finished packing our things and were soon headed out when mom said to me, "Doris, look at me" I looked at her and she continued, "when you grow up. Never fall in love with a man" I was a child at that time and so I could not understand what she meant but it seemed important and so I nodded to what she had just said.

My mother took a deep breath in our house for the last time and then, she said to me, "Doris, let's go"
