Birth Of A New God

Karna closed his eyes accepting his death as the divine arrow shot by Arjuna was just a second away from him.

His death could have been better than being killed unarmed while removing the stuck wheel of his chariot from the mud.

But alas it couldn't be helped...

He could hear the countless war cries and screams around him as the great war of Mahabharata was going on.

But with his death, the war will come to an end.

Without him, there will be none who can stand against the might of Arjuna or other Pandavas.

During his last moment, he meditated on his father, the Sun God, Surya.

Soon his head was separated from his body by Arjuna's divine arrow.

He died.

...

...

...

Karna was confused as he still could feel his head linked to his body and blood flowing through his veins.

He couldn't hear the voices of his allies or his enemies.

He opened his eyes to see what happened to him.

And what he saw astonished him.

Just a moment ago Karna was on a brutal battlefield where thousands fell every second and now he was in the middle of the most luxurious and magnificent hall he had ever seen in his entire life.

The most exquisite curtains, pillars made of gold, and floor made of extravagant marble mesmerized his mind.

Before Karna could gather his thoughts he noticed the people present on the throne.

In front of him was a massive throne befitting of a king. On it sat a handsome man with an arrogant look on his face. Several beautiful female servants were tending to him by serving him drinks or fanning him.

"King of Gods, Indra..."

It didn't take much time for Karna to realize who this man was as he had already met him before when the man had asked for his invincible armor.

A lot of questions in Karna's mind were answered by concluding the identity of Indra.

He knew he was in the adobe of Indra, Indraloka, or Swarga. And the people inside this hall were gods.

But why was he here?

His eyes wandered away from Indra to find someone.

Various gods were sitting on their respective seats which were less majestic than Indra's throne showing his status.

He never met them in person but could recognize several of them by sensing their divinities.

God of Water, Varuna.

God of Fire, Agni.

God of Moon, Chandra.

And so on.

Karna felt lucky to be in presence of so many gods. As a warrior, he wanted to fight them but his life was already over.

And then Karna heard the voice of the god he was searching for.

"Son!"

A tall handsome man of broad stature with tanned skin whose radiance was that of a sun approached Karna and pulled him up by his shoulders so he could stand on his feet.

"Father! Why I am here?"

Karna asked as he wanted to know what he was doing in Indra's court after dying.

"You are not dead, my son. Don't worry about it you will know that soon, Karna. For now, just relax."

Surya said with a gentle smile and cast a spell on him.

The spell cleaned Karna's body removing dirt, and blood and also repairing his torn clothes. He felt all the tiredness from war leaving his body.

Knowing that he is not dead made him smile.

He stood with his chest out and his head high. He started emitting an aura that was domineering even for the gods. Some of them even started sweating.

His aura startled the gods while his otherworldly beauty charmed them.

Standing at an impressive height of 6'3'' and an amazing lean body with pale white skin adorned with muscles, his form was beautiful to look at. Broad shoulders, strong arms, and rock-hard eight packs abs showed how much strength he was packing.

He had an exceptional red gem engraved on his chest.

His face was nothing less than perfect. Beautiful white hair, mesmerizing sky blue eyes, sharp jawline, and kissable lips could charm even the most prudest of the maidens.

Surya smiled proudly as from the looks of it everyone was impressed by his son. He walked over to his seat and sat observing the events unfolding.

The female servants who were tending to Indra were caught in a trance looking at Karna which managed to slightly frustrate the king of gods.

"Ahem..."

Indra coughed pulling everyone's attention to him.

"Son of Surya, Karna, our first meeting was less than ideal but this time I think there won't be any enmity between us."

Indra stood up from his throne and said while spreading his arms.

"Lord Indra, even with our less-than-ideal first meeting there was no enmity from my side. I hope there is none from you too."

Karna replied swiftly. He wasn't a fan of people playing with words.

"Ah... smart one indeed. Lord Surya, your son will make a fine god."

Indra lowered his hands and said to Surya who nodded in agreement.

Indra's words confused Karna. From what he could conclude, he was going to become a god but...

"What do you mean, Lord Indra? Father?"

Karna asked for more clarification either from the King of Gods or from his father.

"Your father, Surya, has decided to pass his divinity of the sun to you and make you the new god of the sun in our pantheon."

Indra explained.

Karna looked at his father in disbelief. He had been through many trials in his life but this overwhelmed him.

Surya just smiled at him as there was nothing for him to add.

"Father, I just lost to Arjuna. How can a defeated man like me be deserving of a god."

Karna argued.

"Winning and losing are the essence of life, my son. Don't let a single defeat decide your worth."

Surya countered. He was determined to leave his seat to his son.

"But father-"

"Take it as last order to his son by a father."

Surya knew that Karna was a great son, he wouldn't be able to refuse something like that.

And it turned out to be true. Karna couldn't resist after hearing his father's words.

Karna remained silent for a minute, closing his eyes to ponder.

"Very well, I'll be the new Sun God."

Karna decided with conviction. If it's his father's order he will follow.

All the other gods cheered to welcome the new god in their pantheon.

"Karna, I'm pleased with your decision. Take some rest for now. We will officially commemorate you into godhood soon in a grand ceremony."

Indra declared.

"Narad Muni, please send an invitation to other pantheons for this ceremony."

Indra asked one of the gods sitting in the court.

Narad Muni was one of the gods in Indra's court. Albeit present rarely in the court, today he was there as an important event was happening.

He had the appearance of a middle-aged sage holding a large musical instrument, a Veena.

He was the messenger of gods so handling relations with other pantheons was his job so sending invitations became his responsibility.

"Sure, Lord Indra."

Narad Muni stood up from his seat and disappeared after showing his respects to the King of Gods.

"Fellow gods, as we have reached our decision, the court is adjourned!"

Indra declared and disappeared followed by other gods leaving only Surya and Karna.

"But father where will you be going?"

Karna asked with worry.

"Ah me? Don't worry about me, son. I think it's enough for me, I'll be taking a rest from all of this with my wives. Now my responsibilities are yours."

Surya replied with a sigh.

"I will try my best to stand up to your expectations, father."

Karna said with a slight bow.

"Now come let's go, we have a lot of things to talk about."

Surya placed his hand on his son's shoulder and lead him outside Indra's palace.

Karna was baffled by the beauty of the palace and the gardens outside of it. Even the women serving in the castle could be compared to great beauties on Earth.

'Surely, Swarga is more beautiful than what it's described in stories.'

Karna thought as he drank in the loveliness of Swarga.

Surya led Karna to his chariot.

It was a magnificent chariot pulled by seven divine white horses.

"Let's take a tour."

Surya said and hopped on the chariot followed by Karna.

The horses started to run and in no time they took flight. Karna was amazed by the speed and grace of his father's chariot.

"Father, where are we going?"

Karna asked curiously.

"To Earth."

Surya smiled and the chariot flew at a great speed passing through different realms to reach Earth.

After flying for some time, Karna was able to see a blue planet that he deciphered as Earth.

"Father, it was obvious that Pandavas will win but how the war is unfolding?"

Karna asked wanting to know the state of his half-brothers and his friends.

"The Mahabharata War ended some five thousand years ago."

Hearing Surya's words, Karna was extremely confused.

"How could it be possible, father? I was fighting there just an hour ago?"

Karna asked for an explanation.

"We pulled you from the moment you died to the present time. You could say that you have jumped some thousands of years in the future."

Surya replied with a smile and gestured his hand in front of him.

Surya's chariot was now close enough to Earth that they could easily see the city.

Tall buildings, long skyscrapers, and fast cars were racing on the roads, airplanes were taking flight, and large ships were ripping through the waves.

Karna could see everything that was not present in his time.

"The world has changed significantly, Karna. Take some time to learn about it, you will need as much knowledge as you can get."

Surya advised Karna.
