Second Night

In the office.

Rin sat on the couch and hugged her knees without uttering a single word, and buried her head.

"Well, at least I got what sort of a person you are, master." The man said as he played with the gadgets in the office. "That was a miscalculation on my part. I thought that you would like to stay as far away from danger as possible, which should have been the normal human reaction, but I guess we can't count you as a normal human." He continued.

"What do you mean by that!? Of course I will fight alongside my servant! I have my pride as a Tohsaka!" Rin yelled as she lifted her head and glared at her servant.

"Hmm. I guess that's true. You might be from a noble lineage master, but it doesn't change the fact that you spent a command seal on a general command. Typically those kinds of commands are useless." The man said as he took a seat on the opposite couch and crossed his legs.

"Huh? You mean that my command was useless?" She said as she slowly sank into desperation.

"Normally, that should have been the case but, you are an extraordinary mage. And that was the part I miscalculated. I can still refuse to obey your orders, but they carry a strong compulsion."

Rin looked a little proud from being able to prove her servant wrong.

"Of course I am an extraordinary magus. Hmph." She said as she crossed her arms and lifted her chin. But then became discouraged once more. "But I still failed to draw Saber…"

*Sigh* "Are you still on that? When we win the war, I will make you regret those words. And when that time comes, I won't forgive you no matter how much you apologize." The man said as he also crossed his arms.

Looking at her servant who also felt offended from her words, Rin felt a warm feeling in her chest. How long has it been since she had a simple banter with someone else like this?

"If that's the case, make sure I regret my words then, Archer." She said with a heartfelt smile on her face.

Then she got up and started descending the steps when she finally realized that she had forgotten something crucial. "Oh, right." She said as she turned to the man. "What Heroic Spirit are you? I haven't asked you for your name."

"Hah You finally realized that?" The man said as he returned to his sarcastic personality. "You can call me Evander."

"Huh? Evander? Was there a Heroic Spirit like that?" Rin asked out loud as she rummaged her memory for any legends accomplished by a man named Evander, but came up empty handed.

"It's fine if you don't know me, master. You will see my strength when we encounter enemies after all." Evander said totally unperturbed.

"Ha? How can I make a strategy if I don't even know how strong you are?!" Rin retorted.

"As I said. Something trivial will be revealed when the time comes." He shrugged his shoulders.

"Haah fine. Let's have it your way then. But now you have a job to do." She said as she ran downstairs.

"Oh? We are going straight awa-?" Evander was about to say when a broom and a dustpan was thrown at his face.

"You will clean your mess." Rin said with a smile on her face.

"Hey. What do you think Servants are?" Evander said as he looked straight at Rin.

"Familiars right? But these ones retort and disobey." She said as she crossed her arms.

Evander's lips twitched. "Oblivion take you…master." He said as he went on to clean up the mess as best as he could. "…I wish I was summoned as a caster." He mumbled.

The next day.

*Ring!* *Ring!*

"Shut up! Stop ringing!"

Early in the morning, Rin was woken up rudely by the alarm clock. Morning was never her time of the day.

*Ring!* *Ring!*

"Ahh! Stop!" She shouted as she mustered all of her strength and jumped at the alarm clock to turn it off.

As she flicked off the switch on the alarm clock, she noticed the command seals on her hand.

"Oh right. I summoned my servant yesterday." Then she remembered what class her servant was. "Haah I lost the 50/50." There were only Saber and Archer classes left. And she drew the Archer.

"What's done is done I guess." She said as she went downstairs to wash up.

After she was done, a smell reached her nose.

*Sniff* *Sniff*

"What is that smell?" She asked out loud, and then followed where it was coming from.

Her nose finally led her to kitchen.

'No way, right?' She thought as she entered kitchen, and saw her servant cooking something on the oven.

"Oh, you are finally awake. Take a seat." Evander said as he put two plates of food on the table.

'It smells so good!' Rin thought as she took a seat at the table.

"Bon appetit." Evander said as he also took a seat and went on to eat.

Rin was too dazzled by the food in front of her that she didn't notice the weirdness of the situation.

She grabbed her fork and took a bite.

'Wha?!'

Instantly, a pleasure assaulted her body.

She felt like her clothes were about to rip from foodgasm.

Then she instantly ate whatever was on the plate. "Seconds please!" She said with sparkling eyes.

"Sure." Evander said as he gave her another serving and resumed his meal.

As she was eating her second serving, Rin finally noticed the peculiarity of the situation.

"Wait, why are you eating too?" She asked.

"Hmm? Is there a rule that says I can't eat?"

"No. But servants don't need food nor sleep to sustain themselves. Just the mana they get from their master is enough."

After hearing her reply, Evander put down his fork and looked her in the eye. "Just because you are correct, doesn't mean you are right." And said with all seriousness.

"Huh? What does that mean?" Rin asked with a tilt of her head.

"It is true that we don't need food nor sleep, but I still enjoy those things. Can't I do something I enjoy?" Evander said as his eyes narrowed.

"Uhh…" upon hearing his reply, Rin felt a little guilty. "No no you can. It's fine." She said hurriedly. 'Besides, I get to enjoy such food. Maybe I summoned a cook?' She thought in her mind.

The rest of the breakfast went by as the duo chatted as they ate.

"Let's go. I'll show you around the city. It will be better if you are aware of our battleground." Rin said as she put her coat on.

"Before that, aren't you forgetting something?" Evander said as he waited with crossed arms.

"Huh? Like what?" Rin asked.

"…name. You still haven't told me your name. Saying master this master that doesn't sit well with me."

"Oh right. My name is Rin Tohsaka. You can call me as you wish." Rin said as she shrugged her shoulders.

"Rin it is then. Yeah, I like the sound of that." Evander said with a nod of his head.

"Wh-what's that supposed to mean?! A-anyways let's hurry up!" Rin said hurriedly with a little blush on her face and quickly put on her shoes and left the house.

Following behind him was Evander in incorporeal form.

"Rin."

"Y-yeah?"

"I need some clothes."

"Huh? Why?"

"I can't always go outside in corporeal form can I?"

"*sigh* there should be a few pieces in the house. We'll take care of that once we get back."

The duo continued touring around the city for the good part of the morning.

"And this is the New City Park." Rin said as they arrived at the place where the results of the last Holy Grail War could be seen.

"There is quite a lot of malice in here." Evander said as he looked around.

"You can feel that?"

"Of course I ca-" He was about to say when he suddenly felt a gaze lock onto them. "Somebody noticed us." Evander said as he tried to locate the source of scrying.

"We were found out so soon huh? It doesn't feel like a servant, which means the one who found us out was a master." Rin said.

She was not that worried as battles between masters could only occur at night, but having your identity discovered was a huge disadvantage.

After a while, the feeling of being watched disappeared.

"Let's go to school for the last location." Rin said after making sure whoever was watching them had left.

***

"This-this is a bounded field." Rin said as they passed through the school gates.

A magical array was laid around the perimeter of the school that absorbed the vitality of the people in it.

"Yeah. But it isn't activated yet, so the suction force is negligible." Evander said as he also noticed the bounded field.

"Whoever did this is mocking my authority!" Rin said angrily. "First rate master or not, I won't allow anyone to do such a thing on my watch!"

As Rin was getting heated from anger, Evander noticed a purple seaweed among the students of the school who were leaving the school.

And without Rin nor the servant following Shinji noticing, he sent an invisible needle that attached itself to his sleeve.

Maybe the servant noticed the needle but didn't warn her 'master' on purpose. Either way, Evander's purpose was achieved.

Then he along with Rin, went to school to destroy the bounded field by locating the source.

***

"This should be the source." Rin said as she destroyed the seventh magic circle that held the bounded field on the rooftop of the school.

"Rin, we have a visitor." Evander said as he looked at the servant that was perched atop the wall of the roof.

"You are seriously destroying that? What a waste." The servant said as he held a red spear on his shoulder.

"Enemy servant!" Rin said as she looked around and noticed that they were in quite a disadvantageous location. They were covered from everywhere.

So, she reinforced her legs and made a dash for the opposite wall and jumped over it.

"I leave landing to you Archer!" She said as she hugged her legs as she was free falling towards the ground.

But she had no fear as she felt Evander grabbing her and landing on the ground safely.

After they landed, he let her go and parried the red spear that headed towards Rin with a white sword in hand.

"Oh? The servant finally makes a move." Lancer said as the figure who parried his spear appeared before him.

"Archer?" Rin said as she looked at Evander.

"You are not thinking of running are you, Rin?" Evander said without taking his eyes off his opponent.

Rin weighted the pros and cons of a frontal clash between an Aecher and a Lancer servant, and no matter how much she thought about it, fighting head on with a Lancer, one of the strongest classes in direct combat, as an Archer was a foolish move.

But as she looked at Evander, she knew that she would upset him dearly.

"Haah If you want this so much, go ahead Archer, show me what you've got!" She finally said as she smiled.

"Heh an Archer with a sword? Or a Saber who wants to confuse his enemy. Either way, ready or not here I come!" Lancer said as he vanished.

*Clang!*

The red spear was blocked by the white sword.

Then Evander slid the spear across the blade and landed a kick on the stomach of the Lancer.

The kick was blocked the shaft of the spear, but he was still thrown back.

Then Evander appeared right beside the Lancer.

*Clang!* *Clang!*

The white sword and the red spear clashed multiple times in the span of a second.

Then Evander disappeared once more as he appeared behind the Lancer.

He delivered a kick but it was dodged and the spear that was heading towards his heart was blocked by the flat of the white sword, Bakuya.

He slid back and looked towards Lancer who stood where he was.

"Hmm, this makes me believe that you are the Saber. An Archer wouldn't have such a strong body." He said as he crouched down and pointed the tip of the spear towards the ground.

"Well, I have a sword after all." Evander replied as they clashed blades once again.

The ground cracked, the buildings got destroyed as they clashed.

"So, this is a fight between servants." Rin said as she looked at destruction caused by two servants who weren't even going all out.

*Clang!* *Crack!*

As they were clashing, the white blade, Bakuya, in Evander's hand cracked and fell apart.

"Heh got you!" Lancer said as he lunged for the final blow.

"Archer!" Rin yelled from the side anxiously.

But then, Bakuya, followed by the black blade, Kanshou, appeared in Evander's both hands.

"Just kidding, I have two swords." Evander said as he parried the the spear with Kanshou and left a cut that would have been fatal if not for Lancer's fast reflexes.

"You were a dual wielder huh?" Lancer said as he put up some distance between themselves. "Now I know who you are, Saber." He said as he crouched once again. "It took me this long because I thought you were from the Throne but you were from the Hall all along." He gave a beastly grin.

"Well done. But you have already exposed your weapon to me. I know all there is to know about you." Evander replied as he also got into stance.

"I am aware. And that's what makes this fight more exciting." He said as he lunged one more time.

As they were clashing once again, Rin watched with an excited expression on her face. 'The servant I summoned wasn't a no name after all! As expected of me!'
