The Scene!

"Now listen here Cynthia dear, you're young and you have a long road ahead of you, what's two or three marriages nowadays? You girls have got things easy. But you're too inexperienced to understand what I'm talking about anyway, oh don't get me wrong now,"

Sylvia's eyes shone with hard-core hate.

"I'm always on your side, Cynthia dear, I've been carrying your responsibility inside my heart since before you got married to my sweet Henry, I always thought of myself as a replacement for your late mother,"

George held Cynthia's hand as if his life depended on it, he had an angry sullen look on his face, but the Cobra only had eyes for Cynthia, sparing no poison tonight. She came here to wage premeditated war as they had both predicted, she went as far as opening the subject of the late Mr. and Mrs. Evans, a taboo topic in front of Cynthia.

It was a cruel fate that took her parents away from her.

'Or was it not?' George's thoughts suddenly darkened. '...I'll be damned if I let the Cobra have her way now that Cynthia is finally willing to let me be beside her.'

He took a deep breath, "I'm sorry Sylvia," George said with a big smile, "You're old enough to be my late grandmother's age, and my Cynthia's ex is your son, but he doesn't count. Cynthia will only marry once, and her husband will be none other than me."

George smiled wildly at Sylvia now, it was more like a lion showing his fangs to his prey. While Sylvia rolled her eyes at him, Cynthia momentarily forgot that Sylvia was even at the same table.

George had unleashed the massive power of his dimples, unintentionally distracting Cynthia from her original plan. She looked into his blue eyes that shone with sincerity and couldn't help giggling like a school girl next to him, she couldn't help but find his words a bit funny.

She wished what George had said was true with all her heart, she wished she could somehow erase those long years she was married to her ex and fooled by him.

'That would've been nice,'

But it was too good to be true.

The witch cleared her throat, successfully bursting Cynthia's bubble, the vicious woman was nowhere near finished yet, "As I was saying... life, love, men, you'll have plenty of those to go around, they will always roam around that golden spoon in your mouth, you know, the one you were born with."

Sylvia smiled triumphantly. While Cynthia's smile was bitter. The witch often spoke about Cynthia's worth coming only from her last name. And it got to her every single time, partially because deep down inside, Cynthia knew that the witch's statement was true.

George tensed but it was Cynthia's show today. She held George's hand that was fisted over the table and squeezed it, to everyone else the gesture was lovey-dovey but George knew it was a silent 'shut up'.

The witch eyed their hand in annoyance but kept going anyway.

"Cynthia dear, babies and diapers and all the nights you'd lack your beauty sleep in, these are things you wouldn't know about, you're still a child yourself! It took two people to destroy that marriage of yours and you know that. Don't let that baby stay in your broken home. I am offering you a golden opportunity here."

Cynthia's heart picked up its pace, that was it, she braced herself for what was about to come.

The witch eyed George and smiled sweetly at him.

"Why are you dragging a baby into that mess when you can start on a clean slate? Ha?"

She looked at Cynthia's belly.

"Give me the baby, then come visit anytime you want! He won't be going anywhere far away from you anyway; one signature would solve this... problem. It's a win-win situat- AHH!"

Sylvia left her mouth open, the water that was splashed on her face was still dripping from it.

"THE NERVES YOU HAVE! YOU UNGRATEFUL LITTLE BRAT!" Sylvia shrieked at Cynthia.

Everyone in Le Diplomate gasped in shock and many murmurs started after that.

Cynthia swallowed back a smile and gritted her teeth until they hurt, she was waiting for anything that Sylvia threw her way in order to create a scene in the high-society circles, but what Sylvia suggested just now was simply the best, she couldn't begin to imagine that the witch would give her that.

Cynthia stood up to her feet and placed her two hands over her mouth, she then fanned at herself dramatically and shook her head.

"Y-you want to take my baby away from me!" Cynthia squealed the words out before she cradled her pregnant belly.

Le Diplomate buzzed with the sudden murmurs.

"Outrageous...!"

"What is happening here?"

"Did I just hear that right?"

Cynthia covered her mouth again with both of her hands, she was smiling beneath them.

Sylvia's mouth was closed now, she looked thoughtful for a bit, and if Cynthia wasn't mistaken, just a bit impressed as well.

"Well, well,..." Sylvia picked up her napkin from over her lap and patted her face with it. Once she placed it down over the table, she eyed Cynthia with a look of determination in her eyes.

A sense of dread washed over Cynthia.

"This only proves my point Cynthia dear, I never suggested such a thing, you're just...imagining things because you are mentally unstable,"

Cynthia's smile was gone.

"I'll see you in a court of law," Sylvia picked up her Pierre Cardin handbag and walked out of the restaurant gracefully ignoring the ongoing murmurs.

The moment the door closed behind her; Cynthia's hands began to tremble.

George was next to her in a second, "Let's sit back down Cynthia..."

"Not at this table." Her voice shivered slightly too.

"Not at this table," George repeated as he led her back to their first table.

She snapped out of it and held her head up high, people were still looking at her and she would still win this round if she acted the role correctly.

She kept her voice just above a whisper, "Does she have a case against me, George?"

George's face darkened as he scowled.

Thank you for all of your encouragement, I am very happy to see your power stones and golden tickets and your comments as well, hope you enjoyed this chapter! My favorite part was that cup of water that got splashed in Sylvia's face!
