First Day

It was finally Monday morning and Aiden was sitting in the backseat of the car. The previous day, Derek had assigned a specific driver for Aiden and another one for Becca and Spencer. Of course Becca and Spencer complained about having to share while Aiden got his own but Derek just told them that if they didn't like it, they should hire their own driver. Both of them were quiet after that.

The driver that was assigned to Aiden was Milo. It was nice that they had already met before and Milo seemed extremely relieved that he hadn't been assigned to drive Spencer and Becca. Apparently, rumors about how horrible they were, and Lyla too, had spread amongst all of Derek's employees. Even the people at his company seemed to know and they had never met any of them before. Rumors sure are scary.

The car eventually stopped in front of the school gate which was open this time with a guard standing nearby. Milo looked into the rearview mirror.

"Shall I get the door for you?"

"Absolutely not. Ah! I almost forgot to ask," Aiden paused after opening the door. "You're not just gonna sit around waiting again this time are you?" Milo laughed.

"Not this time, no. I'll be back by the time your classes are finished though and if you need the car before then just give me a call or send a text. Mrs. Hudson gave you my number, right?"

"Sounds good and yeah, she did." Aiden got out of the car and closed the door behind him. Milo's window was open so Aiden waved and said goodbye. "See you later."

"Yup! Have a good day." Milo waved too and then drove off. Aiden didn't waste any time and walked through the gate. He had arrived early just in case something unexpected happened so there weren't too many people around. He saw a few students glance his way and whisper amongst themselves as he walked by. Rounding one of the corners, he accidentally bumped his shoulder into the arm of someone who was standing in the way.

"Oh, sor-"

"Hey!" Before he had the chance to apologize, the other person spun around and grabbed the collar of Aiden's shirt. "How dare you run into me! Don't you know who I am?" Aiden sighed. He hadn't expected to run into this sort of person so soon. He looked at the guy's hand and then his face with a blank expression. Then, he raised his arm and brushed the arm away from him. The action looked laid back and simple but there was quite a bit of force behind it.

"I was going to apologize but nevermind. I don't know who you are and I don't care." Aiden raised an eyebrow at the now dumbfounded student that stood in front of him. "If you don't want people running into you, then don't stand right next to the corner where no one can see you." Without paying any more attention to him or the others with him, Aiden walked past them and down another hallway.

According to his class schedule, his first class of the day was psychology. The classroom was located pretty far from the school entrance so it would take a few minutes to walk there. After his psychology class, he was supposed to have math class but today there was going to be an assembly for final year students during that time. Lunch time followed after that so his morning was going to be rather simple.

When he arrived at the classroom, there was another student waiting anxiously by the door. It looked like he couldn't make up his mind about whether to go in or not. Aiden reached out and tapped the boy's shoulder.

"Ack!" The boy flinched and spun around. Aiden quickly apologized.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. I was just wondering if you were going in or not." The timid boy had pink hair that looked like cotton candy and he was a bit shorter than Aiden.

"Ah, no, it's okay. I just scare easily. Um, I was going to go in but, um, well, no one else is in there and I…I didn't want to be the first one." The boy didn't make eye contact as he spoke and he fidgeted a lot, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

"That works out great then," Aiden said, smiling brightly.

"It…it does?"

"Yeah, because this is my class too so if I walk in before you, you won't be the first one there." With that, Aiden stepped around the boy, opened the classroom door, and walked in. Then, he held it open for the other student. "Well?"

"Thank you!" The pink haired boy beamed at him and rushed happily into the room. As they found their seats, Aiden introduced himself.

"I'm Aiden Hale by the way. A transfer student."

"I'm Yuki Jensen. Oh, I…I know it sounds kinda…girly, b-but I'm a guy so…um!" His mood plummeted the more he spoke so Aiden intervened.

"It's unique. I think it's nice." Yuki smiled slightly at the compliment.

"...Really? T-thank you." They continued to talk while waiting for the teacher and the rest of the class. They compared their classes, talked about the school, and other casual things. Slowly, others started arriving at class. When about half of the students were there, the teacher finally showed up as well. A few minutes later, the seats were full and the bell rang, signaling that everyone should be in their first class. Aiden didn't know why, but Yuki sighed in relief when he saw the other people who were taking the class.

As it was the first day of a new school year, the teacher mainly discussed the class syllabus and a group project they would be assigned. The project would count as a third of their final grade and they would have the entire semester to complete it. After that, their groups were randomly assigned and the teacher handed out textbooks to everyone. Aiden was grouped with three other people. Fortunately, Yuki was one of them. The other two students in his group were a girl named Ava and a guy named Zeke. Ava was friendly and cheerful, maybe a little too cheerful in Aiden's opinion, but she seemed nice. Zeke on the other hand, hardly spoke five words the entire time and appeared reluctant to work with them. Before the class ended, the four of them exchanged phone numbers so they could discuss the project outside of class. Whether they made a good team or not, only time would tell.

Just after the bell rang, signaling the end of the first class period, an announcement over the school's loudspeakers instructed all final year students to proceed to the auditorium for a mandatory assembly. Students grumbled and complained as they shuffled through the hallways and soon gathered in the auditorium. There were chairs set up in rows and once all the students were in their seats, the school's principal came out to address the students.

The entire assembly was filled with boring reminders about college, their futures, and how the coming year was so important. Aiden had to stifle several yawns as the principal droned. Other students were having an equally difficult time paying any attention to the speech. Some had even fallen asleep and started snoring. The teachers didn't say anything about it since they too were hoping the principal would stop talking soon.

After what seemed like an eternity, the bell finally rang and they were all dismissed. Since it was lunchtime, the previously drowsy students were now filled with energy and chatting loudly. Aiden invited Yuki to have lunch with him and it looked like the boy was going to break down in tears at any moment. Still, Yuki enthusiastically agreed and they made their way to the cafeteria.

The rest of the day progressed smoothly as all of his classes just went over what the class would entail and handed out textbooks and necessary paperwork. He also found out that sign ups for extracurriculars would be the following week. When classes were finished, Aiden gathered his things, said goodbye to Yuki, and went outside. It didn't take long for him to spot Milo standing next to the car waving at him. He waved back and hurried over. As he did so, he couldn't help but notice that almost all of the students were picked up by professional drivers in expensive cars.

"Did you have a good day?" Milo asked as he started the car and Aiden fastened his seatbelt.

"Yeah, it was fine." Most likely because he didn't share any classes with his cousins. "How about you?"

"My day was great! Thanks for asking. Would you like to listen to the radio?"

"Sure." Milo turned on a radio station playing a variety of different kinds of music and Aiden quietly listened to the songs play while watching the city streets pass by the window.
