Familiar: The Laen Chronicles

After a brutal accident that causes him to lose his memory, Ian's life takes a strange turn. He sees things that aren't there and keeps having these strange dreams of the days leading up to his accident. That is until everything he thinks he knows about the world is turned upside down. After all, magic is real and always has been. In a world where everything is unknown, follow Ian as he grows his strength and comes into contact with the various forces ruling this new world. The Laen, an organization that seems to want to rule everything magical, and the Fasurus, spirit-like creatures who have been suppressed far too long. Side note: The beginning chapters of the story are a bit slow, but if you can keep reading to chapter 18, or at least 8, I think the chance you will enjoy the story greatly increases. Anyway, happy reading. A Conclusion

He is standing unsteadily, his face a mess as he looks at me with a slight smile on his lips. As expected he has broken out of the spell.

"You are stronger than I expected." He says as he stares at me, wiping some of the blood trickling down his broken lip. "Much stronger. If I'm not mistaken, you must be Drew Wright."

I freeze as I stare at him suspiciously. How did he know my name?

He chuckles as he sees my expression. "You left quite an impression on many people after what happened two years ago. I had to pay a lot of money to find out who you are and your little secret."

The events of two years ago flash through my mind as I watch him warily. He knows about what happened and yet he doesn't seem too worried. Does he have a way to stop it? No. Even the Eldest told me that it is almost impossible to stop.

"Since you know what I can do, you probably know it would be best to surrender right away," I say cautiously.

His smile dims as I mention that. "Yes, logically speaking that would be the best option, but I am not the type to give up so easily. Even if I die, I prefer to die trying."

And with that, he takes on a fighting stance. I want to attack him, but every instinct in my body is screaming to me that something is wrong, and I suspect the hidden Fasuru will show up soon. As the seconds pass, his smile slowly begins to widen and the sounds upstairs begin to dwindle as the fights come to a close, as for me, I feel an ever-increasing pressure. Where is the hidden Fasuru, until it shows itself I can't act too rashly. Finally, I can't take it anymore. I have to act, I scream at myself. Move!

Suddenly he bows at me, making me wary again. "Thank you for your cooperation, Drew Wright. I assure you, I will remember this favor you have done me today."

What is he talking about? I ask myself when he suddenly makes some hand signs. Suddenly everything clicks as I realize what is going on but it is a bit too late.

"Great Lord!" his voice booms as the green around his eyes shines brighter. "I give you control -"

I don't hear the word he says next as a massive shockwave bursts through the house, instantly shattering anything fragile. My bones are vibrating by the time everything returns to normal. I look up at the man and immediately notice it. The Fasuru that had Fused with him is gone, replaced by something far more powerful. He exudes the aura of someone with great authority as he looks down at me with an indifferent gaze. His eyes are glowing green at this point.

He had been stalling for time all along. This is why he didn't fear what the Laen would send. This is their hidden trump card. A Fasuru that not even Ruan could beat. It would be a miracle to even escape unscathed.

They had been tricking us from the beginning. The Fasurus had had their power remotely hidden from the beginning to make us think that there was another more powerful Fasuru in the house, that thought will then serve to restrain our actions as we wait for the hidden Boss to come out, so as to avoid getting into a trap. Meanwhile, as we were waiting, the real Fasuru would then make its way here.

The Fasuru studies me for a moment, before suddenly jumping through the ceiling, unto the next floor. Suddenly I snap back to my senses as a chill runs through me. My teammates!

I jump through the ceiling to the next floor and run into the room they are in just in time to see It raise its hand. A massive force presses down on me, causing me and my teammates to collapse helplessly on the ground. Not even Ruan is spared.

The Fasuru turns to its unconscious teammates who all have different levels of injury and are bound with magic on the floor. It waves its hand and the magic binding them dissipates without a struggle. It then surrounds them with a magical bubble and uses it to lift them off the ground. It turns to look at us once last time, its gaze resting on Ruan for a moment before disappearing with the four men.

As I regain control of my limbs, I stare at the place where the Thing had been standing wondering what the hell just happened. After a few seconds, I shake my head and turn around to check my teammates. None of them are injured, thankfully. They are all just shocked by the power that Fasuru had displayed.

We leave the house quickly after that. The police would undoubtedly be coming soon since we had caused a lot of disturbance.

We head to the bookshop to report the mission.

As soon as we open the door, we are met with the sight of Hugo sitting on a chair, a book in hand. He shoots us an indifferent gaze before turning back to his book.

"So," he says, "how was the mission?" It is obvious from his tone that he expects the mission to have succeeded.

"They got away. We have no idea where they are right now." I answer as we all pull up chairs and sit down on them.

He frowns and drops the book once he hears my answer. "Details." Is all he says.

I slowly tell him what had happened from the moment we arrived at the house. Once I get to the part when the powerful Fasuru arrived his expression changes from utmost seriousness to one of concern.

"Are you all okay?" He interrupts as he activates his second sight and checks us for injuries.

"Of course we are," Lathia says with a teasing tone. "Do you think we would be so calm if we were slowly dying?"

He ignores her and nods for me to continue once he has made sure we are all okay. By the time I am done telling him everything, his expression is grave.

"The Majin is this powerful?" He asks as he rubs his chin. For some minutes he doesn't say anything as he sits there stroking his chin, deep in thought.

Suddenly he stands up. "You guys have done a good job, you can go home and rest, I'll take over from here."

We nod and leave the bookshop. Our mission is over.

Later that night, I see the news. Four people were strangely murdered a few days ago and the police are on the lookout for the murderers. Also mentioned in passing is the gas explosion that partially destroyed a mansion in the rich section of the city.
