Chapter 10 - Jealousy

This chapter describes Maximus' point of view about the scenes that took place before and after Maximus meeting with Adelina in her room.

Maximus' pov:

It's eight in the evening and Adelina hasn't come home yet. It's now the sixth day in a row that she returns late. Her job has already finished hours ago and yet she hasn't show up. I cannot figure out what's going on with her. What is she up to? I am waiting Christopher, my Beta and also my best friend to give me information about it. With Chris we grow up together and he is one of few that I completely trust. He is very straightforward, firm and last but not least very loyal. Apart from Jina, Chris is the only one in the pack who knows that Adelina is my mate. But unlike Jina, he is totally opposed to the way I treat her. I always take his opinion into account, but not this time. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and notified me that he arrived.

-"Alpha good evening" he told me in a stern way.

-"Good evening Chris. All those years that I know you, when you call me Alpha, you have something really bad to tell me".

-"I can not identify it. You will decide that."

-"So tell me, what's going on?"

-"As I discovered Adelina had made lots of friends in the pack the last two months. She is very sociable and was quickly accepted by the pack. The last few days she stays up to late to the hospital, because as her colleagues say she wants to give a good impression to her superiors".

-"She doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. I guarantee for her. Everyone knows that. I made sure of it."

-" I know Alpha but she doesn't know that. I doubt if anyone dared to tell her about it."

-"And what is she doing there so many hours? Have you found out?"

-"Please I want you first to react calmly when you hear what I am going to say. Rumors say that she spends lots of hours in the new Hospital Manager's office. Every day they locked themselves in his office and they don't want anyone to bother them".

-"They do what? How dare she ? Who is this new Manager?" Ι asked him trying to keep my nerves and my composure.

But what I really wanted was to reap off his head and cut him into small pieces.

-"He is Mario Lupo, from the known family of the Lupo's in Italy" Chris answered me.

-"And what the hell is he doing here?"

-"He is the third boy of the family. Instead of being a gamma in his pack he studied medicine and then economics and now he takes over the management of the hospital units. He is very successful in his field. It's an honor and a privilege to have him here".

-"Honor and bullsh....t! I want him gone by tomorrow morning".

-"You know we can't do that. First, because we can't rely on rumors to accuse someone for something. Second, because his family is one of the most considerable allies we have in Europe. We do not want to loose them. And third, why do you even care about what is he doing with Adelina? I thought you didn't care about her. Am I wrong?"

- "No you are not" I responded hurriedly to him.

I abruptly got up from my chair. I wasn't going to sit there any longer to hear more about those two lovebirds. I had enough. I got out of my office furious. I entered Adelina's room. Of course she wasn't there yet. She was fooling around with his new lover, that Italian idiot.

I have been waiting for her for about an hour and a half. All this time I was trying to calm down my wolf and my nerves. How is it possible my mate to fool around with another one? How she can be so disrespectful to me? When I heard steps from outside and smelled her sense I turned off the lights and waited for her to enter. I had already drank a bottle of whisky and had smoked two packets of cigarettes. I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself.

When she opened the door I turned on the lights and she froze in her spot. She didn't anticipate me.

- "Where were you?" I asked her in a strictly manner.

- "Good evening to you too Alpha" she responded in a sassy way.

-" Why don't you come on time lately?"

-" I wasn't aware that there was a specific time to return" she retorted.

- "I asked you a question and I demand an answer, don't play dumb with me" I told her sternly.

- "Alpha don't you have anything more important to do tonight? Don't tell me that you haven't arranged anything romantic with your girlfriend..." she said ironically.

-" My personal life is not of your business" I scolded her.

-"Neither is mine to you. So I would appreciate If you left my room right away. I have to change and I am already late".

I have to recognize that this girl has guts. No one apart from my family or my beta dares to talk to me like that. Without a trace of fear or without thinking about the consequences. Ι would really like to know if she does that due to her character or the fact that we are mates. I can not understand where all this confidence that her behavior has, comes from. When I first met her, she wasn't capable to form a complete sentence when I was close to her. Αnd see how she evolved in a few months time!

- "Do not push it" I told her with menacing eyes trying in a way to cut her down to size. Instead of that, she got wild and told me.

- "It is I that am doing that? Really? What's your problem? You kicked me out of your life, in fact you never let me in. You revealed to me that we are mates only to brought me here and tell me to forget about it. And after months of receiving cold shoulder from you now you come here and demand answers. Answers for what? Why on earth I am obligated to inform you about what I do or where I go or who I meet? Why? "she yelled at me.

I was stunned by her behavior. I honestly did not expect her to get more angry. I really thought that my attitude would discourage her and she would cut it out or maybe ask for my forgiveness. Clearly I was wrong. After a sigh she continued in the same rhythm.

-"You want me out of your life don't you? So why do you keep me here? You were very clear when you told me that you want nothing to do with me. So why don't you stick to your own decision. It's your own damn decision after all!!"she yelled at me again.

I didn't speak at all. I was trying really hard to compose myself and not yell at her. My wolf didn't agree with that. He made clear that he didn't want me to harm her even if it was only through words. He was resisting even to the thought.

-"You don't have anything to say to me?" she asked in frustration.

After I took some minutes to calm down I responded to her in a very strict and sober way.

- "I am waiting for your answer. You haven't answered me yet and my patience is running out Adelina".

-"Oh you want an answer huh? You'll got one. One that I should have given you from the start".

And then she did something I never thought she was capable of. She started pronouncing slow and steady the rejection phrase.

"I Adelina Mac Arthur daughter of Richard Mac Arthur Alpha of the Crescent Moon pack I reject you Maximus.....

I wasn't gonna let her reject me. I was the Alpha and absolutely no one could talk to me like that, let alone to reject me. How dare she? Her behavior was unacceptable. I and only I, can reject her. Who does she think she is?

In a blink of an eye I came in front of her, grabbed her tightly from the waist, put my finger on her mouth and told her in a low but very menacing voice "Don't you dare".

Her face was inches away from mine. She wasn't scared. She was looking straight in my eyes with courage and confidence. Her behavior again took me by surprise. I thought that she would feel threatened and she would plead me for forgiveness. Instead she was standing in front of me arrogantly.

Μy eyes turned black and my body began to tremble. My wolf was emerging in the surface. He couldn't allow me hurting her anymore. I tried in vain to restrain him. I haven't seen him like this before. But I prevailed. Holding her firmly by her arms I told her.

"Don't you ever dare to do that again. You cannot reject me. You cannot leave away from me. Never! Do you understand? NEVER! YOU WILL STAY WITH ME FOREVER!" I yelled at her and then I left slamming the door behind me. I was on the edge. I couldn't control my wolf anymore. He wanted to hug her, kiss her, mark her and make love to her.
