Chapter Fifty-Three

"Her Majesty over extended herself in her condition. We'll want to inform the cooks so they can prepare more frequent, smaller meals. A-and she'll need to rest more and drink plenty of water." The physician said nervously.

"Condition?" Aidan asked and looked back at me.

"Y-yes Your Majesty-" Reggie started.

"Leave us." Aidan said.

Reggie and Louise bowed then scurried out of the room with the chamber pot.

"A-Aidan." I said and looked up at him.

"I've been acting a fool." Aidan sighed and squeezed my hand. "I thought you were avoiding me. I was so jealous and angry that you were spending time with the young Prince but he was taking care of you when I was just driving you away..." I saw a tear stream down his cheek that made my heart break. What must've been going through his mind?

"Aidan." I reached up and wiped the tear from his face.

"Is it serious?" He asked.

"W-what?" I asked and snapped my hand back.

"Your condition?" He asked.

"Oh. It should clear itself up in um...well about 9 more months."

He sighed. "That's a relief."

"But it can be dangerous at that time. I-I'll need you to take care of me."

"Of-of course. I'll do whatever you need. W-we'll find servants who are experienced with it too. A-and chefs! The physician said you'd need a special diet too."

"T-that probably isn't necessary."

"But it is. I want nothing but the best. W-what can I do now?"

"You can...kiss me."

He smiled before he leaned down and kissed me.

"Does this mean you'll forgive me?" He asked.

"With a little more groveling." I teased.

"Ugh...I'm an idiot and a jerk...a pent up jerk." He moved to sit down on the bed next to me and leaned in. "Did uh, did the doctor say if we could still be...intimate?" He asked timidly.

"Is that what you're worried about?"

"W-what no. I'll do whatever we need to for your condition. I just thought...I hoped that was still an option while you have - what did the doctor say it was called?"

"Oh just a little thing called pregnancy." I say with a smile.

He was completely shocked. He looked down at my stomach then back at me a few times as if he was trying to process the news.

"Y-you mean?" He asked and put his hand on my stomach. I just nodded, I thought if I said anything I might cry tears out of joy.

"I didn't expect it so soon." He smiled and leaned down to kiss me. "Y-your wrist!" He said as if he had forgotten about it. "Are you okay?" He grabbed my wrists and looked them over.

"I-I'm fine. It didn't bruise." I said.

"I can't believe I hurt my pregnant wife." He leaned down and rested his forehead on mine. "I'm truly pitiful."

"It-it wasn't that bad a-and I've already forgiven you."

"But I can't forgive myself for taking my frustrations out on you. I'll do better in the future I swear."

"I'll hold you to it." I say and kiss him. "Y-you know w-we can be in-intimate e-even in my condition." I said and swallowed as if that would alleviate the anxiety I was feeling.

He pulled away, he seemed conflicted. He just kept looking at my stomach then back at me.

"But um...th-there's a baby in there now. Won't that...hurt it?" He asked.

"He won't know the difference." I say.

"You think it's a boy?"

"I-I don't know. It's still so early...would you be disappointed if it wasn't a boy?"

"No. I just want a healthy baby. We have lots of time to make lots of sons and daughters."

"Ai-Aidan." I say and blush.

"And if it only takes two months for you to be with child then we'll fill up this castle in no time."

"S-stop teasing me."

"Oh I'm not teasing you my Queen. Once this one's out," he said and tapped my stomach lightly, "I'll be just as diligent in putting another one in there."

"Y-you!"

"You are as red as a tomato and I'm sorry I just can't resist anymore."
