1 prologue 1: death

In a settlement in Salem, a raucous cacophony of cheers and curses are heard as a line of 10 women and men are dragged into the center. they had chains around their necks, ankles, and wrists being pulled by a plowhorse towards a podium that hosted 20 iron crucifixes and the town mayor in front of them all. They were miserable and disfigured like they had endured every possible form of torture in the book. At front and center was a man and woman that both shared similar features, the same messy black hair slightly discolored with blood and died white at the roots from round the clock torture. Their bodies were skeletal and angular which garnered surprised gasps from the crowd "how can they walk?" said a villager. As the prisoners fell into line in front of their respective death apparatus, the mayor began to preach.

"now, my children, hear me," when he spoke his subjects listened "for too long have we welcomed these demons into our humble little town, for too long have we ignored the devil's influence on our community. as you may know these so-called people have been seen practicing the devil's arts, magic." he was a plump man that radiated an aura of poisonous authority. he hosted a face with wiry blonde mutton chops that exposed his non-existent neck. "we shall show them that Salem won't fall so easily to the temptation of their benefactor. Their tyranny ends here! these two in the middle were corrupted by the devils' taunts and for that, we must make them and their conspirators repent for their sins!" he shouts ending his short speech which the crowd echos in agreement.

"death to the demons!" shouts a man raising his torch.

"burn them!" says another. Soon the whole crowd were pitching in, delivering their own flurry of slurs and curses as the mayor signals the guards to pin the prisoners on the crucifixes. he pulled his bible from his inner pocket and began to read

"I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. "You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel and that I am the Lord your God and there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to shame." he closed the book then pointed to the base of the crucifix "light the pyres" he shouted. the guards did not require being asked a second time and lowered their torches. the fires grew to their highest point at which they were roaring. the festivities began, the local band played jovial songs and the townspeople danced around the dying. this was a truly morbid display of human cruelty.

the pyres roared throughout the event with it being the staple of the town's entertainment and strangely enough, there was no pain displayed during the celebrations. there were no screams of terror nor shouts of pain. the prisoners just hung there, stonefaced, whilst their skin melted from their legs and the townsfolk noticed. Albeit few, but that few turned into dozens then dozens into hundreds soon the night was dead silent. the band no longer played and the people were filled with an otherworldly sense of dread.

the burned and blistered faces of the accused took hold of a horrifying grin, one not meant to be displayed on a human face. it was a wide toothy grin that gaped horrifically and split their cheeks. They looked up and stared into their persecutor's eyes with their malformed ones. without letting their lips touch the spoke simultaneously like a quiour of corpses "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" then the bodies cheered and shook in their binds "two thousand years and twenty more" they stopped and dropped limp "this curse is placed on the future of humanity. the second divine rebellion will come and angels will fall from the sky once again as the temptation of sin shall be brought into the heavens ranks. no longer shall you know life normally. when the child rejects his fellow man he shall watch the angels fall onto him." with that final word all twenty of them were engulfed in the flames that sat beneath them and the iron melted into a puddle as their bodies turned to ash.

the crowd's silence somehow grew quieter. some broke into tears and others laughed hysterically whilst the rest stood stunned. but, all felt like they had just lost a piece of their own soul. this day had been engraved into the hearts of all who saw.

the children had seen what happened and lost all of their humanity, just husks of their previous selves. they could no longer laugh or play. not draw, not imagine. the only thing they could do was think. thoughts would flow through their minds, waterfalls of murderous intent were these children.

upon the 13th night after the crisis the children of the townsfolk gathered in the town center and chanted "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1." then split off into opposite directions with kitchen knives in hand. they crept up the steps to the closest house and entered the rooms of the adults mumbling babble. the steps of the children were perfectly in sync as they moved closer to the adults. when they had got within reach they all raised their knives. with another worldly screech, they killed the first round of adults then they exited the houses lighting them on fire as they did. the children then moved onto the next batch to slaughter.

make no mistake these children were completely aware of themselves but, not in control of themselves. they joined back together once the town had become a raging inferno of divine retribution. they created a circle in the center of the town and held out their tools of destruction in front of them. then just stood there in silence for a minute and let the roar of the fires to play their sweet song. once the flames had reached their fanalé and the light of the moon was once again the brightest light in Salem, the circle of children plunged the knives into their bellies and pushed the blade through their guts tearing their youthful tissue cleanly and finalizing the penance they deserved.
