Chapter 20: Glimpse of Memory Lane

"Joy!!! Look here I found the lucky clove!!! Yess!! I told you right!! This actually is true!!

The giggling sound of a little girl was buzzing in that boy's heart till now.

"....rdson!!?"

"...Richardson??"

"Mr. Richardson!???"

Juliet was constantly calling his name for a while now, but Mr. Richardson seemed to be in a daze. He couldn't hear anything. He was just looking at her way with his eyes fixated like marbles. Suddenly the door opened as Duke came in. Duke was with all the other executives until now in the dining hall but as time passed, Mr.Richardson's secretary came there but Juliet and Mr. Richardson was nowhere to be seen. Duke didn't like that they were still alone and discussing about something privately. So he decided to went to the meeting room. He was really feeling uncomfortable around Mr. Richardson from the very beginning as he came into his sight but now when he watching both of them silently sitting side by side,while Mr. Richardson was looking Juliet's way with an affectionate gaze, it irritated him to the point that he spoke with a little rudeness in his voice " Sir!!!, Ma'am!!!, the other directors are all waiting for you guys to join to the dining hall, if you are done you should come with me."

The tight words make Mr. Joshua to come back to his senses. He batted his lashes for several times frequently and looked at his way.

Juliet was quite stunned with Duke's boldness as he didn't even knock before entering. But as Mr. Richardson didn't notice it, she let it slide.

"Ohh!! ...y- Yeah! I'm- I'm sorry, you must be busy, Your team was surprisingly good, I liked the presentation and the concept of the project. Hope to do a great collaboration ahead." He said as he snapped back to the reality. Those were the very much professional words to be said after a positive contract.

But Mr. Richardson had a pleasant non-corporate smile on his lips that seemed genuine to Juliet. Juliet thanked him in return.

Juliet was about to say something more before she got cut off by him.

"As the contract is signed I want you to come to my company for a visit next week. I want to help this project in every possible way I can, we can discuss the further details there, now let's go to join them."

Juliet nodded and head out with him towards the dining hall. Duke also went with them.

The dining hall had a busy environment. All delegates were having their dinner in the hall, when Mr. Rover came for a talk to Juliet about the project. "The arrangements here are truly praiseworthy Ms. Juliet, and the project presentation was also brilliant. The team's confidence won my heart. I am really looking forward to this collaboration and hoping to taste the wine of success together." Finishing with a laugh, he said that to Juliet. She was also happy, receiving these all-good wishes. She showed him a genuine smile and nodded in response. Duke was beside her this whole-time but he was not really in himself. The sight of Mr. Joshua Richardson was making him uncomfortable in a way. His presence seems challenging to Duke. When Mr. Rover went back greet other directors, Juliet looked in Duke's way but his gaze was only fixated at Mr. Richardson.

Upon watching Duke zoning out for a while she asked, "What are you looking at?" Duke looked at her but still seemed in deep thoughts as he questioned, "Do you know Mr. Richardson? What were you two talking about for so long separately in that meeting room?" Juliet twitched her brows as he asked this question. But she replied in a stern voice, "Now, do I need to report you anything and everything I do?"

Duke was stunned hearing that reply. He lowered his head and said in a low voice, "No… I'm sorry for overstepping".

"You better be." Juliet moved towards the main stage while Duke kept looking at her. She was a complete new person from the last time they had a brief conversation.

Juliet took a wine glass and a spoon and with the jingle sound made with them, she drew the audience's attention.

"Thank you for your elegant presence in today's meeting. I hope the money you all invested in our 'DREAMS' will sail off pretty well and in future we will get continuous opportunities to work with everyone once again. So, here is a toast for the starting of our new collaboration. Cheers to all."

All other present there hailed their glasses to her as well.

After giving her speech, she sipped the white wine from the glass and stepped down. Mr. Richardson was present in front of the main stage as Duke saw him approaching her again. So, he also started walking towards Juliet with bigger footsteps while watching them talk to each other. But after taking several steps he paused as his phone started ringing. The call ID was showing Juliet's name. He picked up immediately and said, "I will be preparing the car so yo…" Duke was not able to complete his sentence as Juliet cut him off in the middle. "No need, I'm going to the project designing site with Mr. Richardson. So, you can go home and take the car with you. I'll call a cab for getting back home." While having these whole conversation Juliet and Duke both were looking at each other, trying to find something in each other's eyes.

Duke again said, "I can wait, take your time."

Juliet was about to say something again but Duke cut the call. He showed some boldness because he feared that Juliet will turn down his proposal again. He was still looking at her walking figure with Mr. Richardson until it disappeared crossing the dining hall door.

A certain sadness gripped him really tight this time. His heart was shaking in fear to the thought of loosing Juliet to someone else. His thoughts were all tangled up but now he was realizing the pain Juliet must have felt from his words. He was cursing himself for saying such cruel words to that pure soul. His heart was tightening around his chest more and more as he remembered her heartfelt confession, her crying mess, her drunken words, the last kiss they shared. Duke couldn't bear it anymore as he stormed out of the dining hall and in one run reached to the terrace. His heart was beating faster than the steps of cheetah, his breathing was a mess but moreover he had tears in his eyes for Juliet. He realized how much he pained her. But now she wasn't with him anymore and he didn't have a chance to confess his fault in front of her. But he couldn't calm his anger as well. so, he punched the concrete wall several times to vent his anger. He started hating himself for being so rude to her. In no time the wall was tinged in red blood. His hands were shaking as the blood was flowing down his knuckles. Having a taste of his own medicine of negligence he slides down the wall putting his face in his palms and whispering, "I'm sorry Juliet, I could never think I have hurt you this much, this pain of broken heart is really too heavy to bear. I am truly sorry Juliet…. Can you please forgive me this once?"
