"... pardon!" Mary gulped. She had uttered so many lies since she had come into this world that it had become her innate nature. 

She had no idea what lie Layla was talking about.

"If you think that I am lying to Your Highness about Alec, I can assure you that is not the case. Alec is his child." Layla laughed, a sweet melodic symphony that attracted everyone's attention.

But Mary knew it was full of thorns.

"I never thought Cassius was a fool to accept a child that did not belong to him. But I highly doubt that he is your child." She did not mince her words with honey as she rubbed salt on her face.

"Pardon! He is my child. If you do not believe it, you can use the temple divine test. It will prove that he belongs to me." Layla's sharp eyes penetrated Mary but the woman looked back confidently.

"Cassian has taught you well. But I know him enough to put my stakes." She shook her head when Mary cursed.
