23 23. Legal Husband

In the meantime, he removes his tie and positioned her well for CPR*. He gave her chest compressions for about thirty count, followed by two breaths while waiting for the paramedics.

Alexia went to Beckett's mom's side and took the shocked older woman's arm in hers as she calmly said.

"Mrs. Lyons let's leave before the ambulance arrives. We can come another time. Let's not make the staff point fingers at you please."

She pretended to assuage the uncomfortable situation.

Her eyes went to where Beckett was trying to resuscitate her sister. It made her boil with rage but she puts on a worried look.

"Beck, I am going to take your mom away. Please make sure that nothing bad happens to my sister."

"Sure. Thanks." Beckett said while still doing the chest compression.

Alexia was happy that he thanked but she knows it's only because he thinks she is doing it for her sister's sake.

The only time this younger man thanks her is when she does anything that helps him and her sister. His brain is all about her sister and no one else.

'How annoying.' She thought to herself.

"Have you called the ambulance? Did they say they're coming?" Beckett asked his secretary again.

"Yes, they're already on their way."

"Rrring...rring...ring." Darragh picks his phone on the third rig. He is on his way to his last meeting for the day.

"Hello. Is everything okay?" He said in a husky voice.

"Erm, no sir. We just saw her being carried in an but we do not have the details of what happened yet.

"What?! Were you not watching over her? How can you say you don't know the details yet. Is this how you do your job?" He screamed into the phone.

"No sir, we did as you instructed. We watched over her though from afar. We followed her all the way into the Lyon's Group office building and left once we saw whom she was had come to see.

He wasn't around then so she waited for him but he left to the car to wait for her there since you said we shouldn't be too close to her lest she catches on that we've been following her.

Less than an hour later, we saw an ambulance arrived and she being transported in it. A man who had some blood on his shirt also entered the ambulance.

We are currently following the ambulance. It's going to the St. Luke hospital." A man said from the other end of the line.

After her outing two days ago, he has instructed his head guard to let two of his personal guards watch over his wife from afar whenever she steps out of the house. He doubted she would agree to it if he told he.

"Okay. Keep following them. I'm coming there soon." Darragh then called Reina to let the person he was to meet that he couldn't make it.

He then snapped his fingers as he instructed his driver. "Arlo, turn the car, we're going to the St. Luke hospital."

"Yes sir!"

"Are you okay, sir? Don't you also need to see a doctor?" A nurse asked once she saw the bloodstains on Beckett's shirt, after the patient he came with has been taken to the emergency ward and was being attended to by the doctors.

Beckett intends to have her moved to a VIP room once they finish.

"No, I'm fine. This is not my blood. It's her..." He spotted Darragh coming towards them together with another nurse.

He was surprised to see him because they themselves just got there so when and how did he know that his wife is at this hospital?

"Does he have someone following us?" He thought outloud.

"Pardon?", the nurse beside asked.

"No, sorry. Not you." He said and averted his eyes from the man coming their way.

Darragh bypassed them and went straight to the emergency ward.

"That is her over there, sir. But you would have to wait outside until the doctor is done please."

The nurse with him pointed to where his wife was.

"Thanks." Darragh couldn't see his wife's face as she was surrounded by a doctor and two other nurses.

He saw she was asleep and knew that she was out of any real danger as the doctor only seems to be assessing her condition and talking to the nurses.

He turned to go back and wait at the lobby for the doctor when he's done.

Minutes Later...

Darragh saw his wife's lover and the doctor who was attending to her enter the lobby. He got up and approach them.

"Hello, doc. Please how is the condition of the patient you were just attending to?"

"Are you her relative?"

"Yes. I'm her husband."

"...?" The doctor was confused. The younger man beside him says he is her boyfriend. Now this gentleman too says he is the husband. 'What on earth is going on?'

"Did you say that you're her husband?" He asked Darragh again for confirmation.

"Yes. I'm her legal husband." Darragh reaffirmed.

"Okay. Then please follow me to my office." Beckett was left behind as the two went to the doctor's office. Since his lover's husband is here, he can no longer be her guardian.

He sighed. He wanted to have her room changed but he can't do that now that her husband has arrived.

Beckett turned went to the emergency room to see his sleeping girlfriend before leaving the hospital.

"The gentleman you just saw with me brought her here. Apparently she collapsed all of a sudden and ended up falling on her face but I don't believe that's what happened.

I've asked for a CT scan and an ultrasound to be taken among other tests once she wakes up but what I can speculate from experience is that she collapsed because she was having difficulty in breathing which we term as Dyspnea.

This can be as a result of her broken nose which became crooked and made it hard for her to breathe."

"Okay doc. But what about the baby? Is it alright?" Darragh was quite worried about her pregnancy since the doctor didn't make any mention of it.
