— Dannis Martell —

We returned to the mayor's office without much fanfare. The mayor welcomed us with open arms and thanked us profusely with a job well done.

He did however, make an idle comment regarding the now completely broken harbor that laid after our fight.

A broken and sinking ship on the shores of the city, scorch marks from Laxus's lightning blasts, gouges on the ground and walls from my sword slashes, broken windows from various buildings, and not to mention the big ass spherical crater in one of the docks.

Thankfully though, he remained courteous and blamed the destruction on the slavers. So any and all damages will be paid by them and nothing will be docked from our payment of completing the mission.

Gotta say, this mayor is slowly but surely making his way into my good books. Most others in his position wouldn't be so lenient.

We even got a bonus since we completed it on the first day of arrival. Apparently, the mayor had posted this job months ago and we were the only ones to accept it.

Makes one kind of wonder the kind of fear that these people must have lived through for months. Not knowing the conditions of their kidnapped friends and families.

After getting the mission papers signed, we exited the building to the cheers of every citizen of Maplerock city. The roads were filled with people and they weren't hesitant to show us gratitude for saving their city.

Laxus and I were absolutely stumped by it all to the point we were shell shocked and simply stared at everything in amazement. The people were cheering our names and told us that we were welcome at any time in their city.

We were called heroes and I could tell from Laxus's expression that he loved every minute of it. I was the same of course, this type of appreciation was one I wasn't used to. But it was definitely something I didn't mind in the least.

One of the residents called out for us to have lunch at a restaurant he owned. We were free to order anything we wanted free of charge.

"Y'all good kids ain't leaving this city without a full belly! Now come!"

Suffice to say, we couldn't say no to that. It was also apparently the restaurant that served the famed shrimp parfait, which I of course enjoyed immensely. That dish alone was worth traveling here again sometime in the near future.

After a delicious meal, Laxus and I parted ways with the citizens. Some offered us to stay the night but we politely declined, it was time for us to leave.

We briskly walked out of the gates of the city with our heads held up high. Our first mission with stakes as high as this and we completed it flawlessly. We would later realize that this mission was the unofficial debut for us as a recognized duo.

It was 5 minutes when we left the gate that we finally stopped and turned around, ready to address the stragglers that followed us out of the city.

"Alright, you three behind that tree. Why are you following us?"

I questioned with an even tone as Laxus took a slight threatening pose with his arms crossed, ready to fight in case this was an ambush of sorts.

To our surprise, three kids got out of their hiding spot and walked to the middle of the street right in front of us. From their builds, I assumed they were a few years younger than either me or Laxus. One was a green haired boy, another boy with a tattoo splayed across his face and another who was the only girl in the group with brown hair.

The three looked nervous as the green-haired boy tried, and failed, to look brave by puffing out his chest.

"What the hell are you kids doing here? Why are you following us?" Laxus asked.

"Y-You guys are mages, right?! Please, let us follow you!" The green haired boy pleaded.

I raised an eyebrow in question. "Why? Our mission is over. You three can go back to your homes now."

"We don't have a place to return to anymore. None of us have any family left." The only girl in the group whispered. Hearing that, I felt a little bit of pity.

'These kids are just like me, all those years ago.'

My slight realization almost made me miss the words uttered by the one with the tattoos.

"You saved us when nobody bothered to. It may just be another job for you, but it's a job that no one else bothered to take until now. The mayor told us that the job had been posted for months until you guys decided to take it and save us. Who knows where we would have been shipped to if you hadn't saved us! We have magic too! We wouldn't be a hindrance to you! So please!"

'They have magic, eh? That's surprising.'

I thought as I mulled it over. Realistically, there was no reason for us to say no. If they were telling the truth and they really did have magic, then Master Makarov would accept them without a doubt.

I spared a glance at Laxus and I could immediately tell he was uncertain. Probably because none of this was in the job description. None of us expected for this to happen after all.

"Just take them in Laxus. You said you wanted to form a team, right? Might as well start from scratch." I elbowed Laxus in the ribs as I smirked. "Besides, it should be fun to have more people our age in the guild. I'm getting tired of seeing Gray strip himself naked all the time."

Laxus just rolled his eyes at my remark but I knew that he silently agreed. I then turned to address the three kids we rescued from the slave traffickers.

"So, what are your names?"

The three were excited as they heard my agreement to take them in. Laxus's silence also meant that he accepted the decision.

"My name is Freed!" The green-haired boy, now named Freed, announced. "The girl is Evergreen and the one with blue hair is Bickslow!" He then bowed a full 90 degrees. "We'll be in your care."

The other two followed Freed's action, as they smiled in relief.

"Good to have you three on board," Laxus smirked.

"I'm just glad you approve." I smirked back. "So what are we naming our little group?"

"I know! The Thunder God's Justice!" Laxus cried out as he raised a fist into the air and stared at me with determination burning in his eyes.

I just deadpanned at him with the comical name. "That sounds lame."

Laxus immediately butted his head against mine as he grit his teeth. "Oh yeah? Well I'd like to see you try, you damn bookworm!"

I ignored his comment as I pushed his face away from mine. We continued to walk forward with the trio trailing behind us as I closed my eyes in thought. After a few steps, I spun around and faced all four with a smile on my face.

"How about the Thunder God Tribe?"

"Congratulations, you three are now members of Fairy Tail."

Master Makarov announced to Freed, Evergreen, and Bickslow as we arrived back at the guild. We had already told the master about everything and how we succeeded in our mission. The man just gave a grin and ruffled our hair lovingly.

"T-Thank you very much!" Freed exclaimed loudly as he stood there with a rigid pose. The other two were also nervous, but their smile showed that they were excited for the new chapter in their life.

"Alright you three, I know we just got here. But I think it's time me and Laxus find out what you guys are made of."

Laxus agreed with my statement with a nod. The three immediately wore determined faces as the both of us led them to the back of the guild where mages were allowed by Makarov to train and practice.

"Yes, Dannis-sama!"

Laxus and I then proceeded to test them. The test was of course simply to survive Laxus as long as they could while I watched from the sidelines.

They didn't stand a chance, not that I expected them to. But the magics they wielded were pretty unique. Bickslow had some type of soul magic while Evergreen had some sort of energy manipulation type magic.

Freed though seemed to be a user of letter magic. One that he named Jutsu Shiki. It was a versatile magic, but also one that needed a lot of practice to master.

As I watched Laxus completely manhandle the trio of newly formed mages, I just couldn't help but smile as I imagined us 5 forming a group with one another.

It was still new and far from being the team that Laxus had envisioned. But it was a start.
