416 416. First Hunt
They are ready to attack the Dragons, so Ben takes them to attack a Dragon as their first target. He has looked around and found some Dragons near the lab's location. Those Dragons aren't strong for Dragon standard, so they are perfect targets.
Although Ben was confused at first because he couldn't sense any strong Dragons since he arrived here. But after he spied on those Dragons, he finally knew that the strong Dragons are now on another continent called Guiltina.
Ishgar got attacked first because the Dragons came from Eclipse Gate in Fiore. Alakitasia got attacked after Ishgar fell, but even Zeref with his mighty army couldn't stop the Dragons. After that, the Eastern Continent got attacked and Guiltina is last.
The attack on Guiltina has just started a few months ago and it hasn't ended yet. It's mostly because the attacks on Ishgar and Alakitasia were very long. It has been 7 years since the attack and Ishgar could fight back for 4.5 years.
Ben contributed the most until his death at the end of 3rd year of the Dragons' invasion. Alakitasia lasted for around 1 year, while the Eastern Continent only lasted for 10 months even though they've made a lot of preparations. Now, Guiltina is on the verge of losing too after a few months even though they've made the most preparations.
Acnologia stationed these weak Dragons on the defeated continents to hunt the survivors like the young Fairies. These Dragons might be weak as Dragons, but they are still very strong for humans. Also, the reason they are weak as Dragons is mainly because most of them were badly injured.
They got nasty injuries like losing limbs or other types of damage that could take their lives, but they survived. All of them got those damage from the same person, Ben. They were underestimating him because he is a human and they paid a big price for that.
These Dragons are good targets for the young Mages to start their hunting. Ben targets the weakest Dragon he found for their first battle, an Ice Dragon with broken wings and big scar on the chest. The Dragon stays on the other side of the forest where the lab is located.
To make sure no other Dragons will come, Ben sets up a space barrier to separate the space so that the battle won't be known by anyone. Of course, the Dragon that becomes their target realizes the change because he is inside the barrier, but it doesn't matter.
The young Mages have gotten ready to attack the Dragons and they've surrounded him. They immediately attack the Dragon that has just woken up from his sleep. The attacks come from all sides and the Dragon can't evade the sudden attacks.
Except for Wendy, Ariel, Gabriel, Lucy, Bella, & Carla, everyone is using new magic. Ben taught them new magic in the last month because he has a big plan for them and they need their new magic. With Ben's guidance, they can learn new types of magic very fast even though they aren't geniuses.
But the only Dragon Slayers among the young Mages are Wendy, Ariel, & Gabriel, so their attacks will cause more damage. They will be the main attackers while the rest will support them. As for Ben, he will tell them what to do and help them when things get dangerous.
Although a plot twist happens as soon as Ben shows up. The Ice Dragon suddenly freezes and trembles in fear while looking at Ben with shaken eyes. It's like he is seeing a ghost or something and that's really what he feels right now.
"Y-you, how can you be here? No way! I saw you died with my own eyes."
The Ice Dragon holds the massive scar on his chest that gets hurt when he sees Ben. This scar was made by Ben in the last battle that took his life. He pierced this Ice Dragon's chest and heart, but this Ice Dragon survived miraculously. So seeing Ben alive really scares him right now.
"Well, I don't expect this reaction, but it doesn't matter. Ignore him, send your best attacks now!"
The young Mages send their best attacks at the Ice Dragon after hearing Ben's order. Most of them don't have a lot of magic power, so they run out of it after a few attacks because strong spells need a lot of magic power too. Only Wendy, Lucy, Bella, & Carla are left to attack the Ice Dragon that doesn't retaliate because of his fear for Ben.
Each time the Ice Dragon wants to attack back, he gets reminded of Ben, so he looks at Ben and cancels his attacks. It's not what Ben was hoping, but it's good enough because now he can see the effects of the young Mages' attacks on a Dragon.
The only one who can give significant damage is Wendy. Carla doesn't have powerful attacks, but her future sight can help them avoid dangerous attacks and attack at good times. Bella & Lucy have powerful attacks, but they aren't effective to damage the Ice Dragon. However, their attacks are very useful to limit the Ice Dragon's movements which give Wendy more chances to land her attacks.
Because of the Ice Dragon's fear of Ben, the battle finishes quite fast. Wendy cuts the Ice Dragon's neck using a very sharp wind blade. It doesn't chop the neck completely because it couldn't cut the bones, but the cut from below still made the Ice Dragon lose a lot of blood which kills him fast.
The Ice Dragon's blood sprays on Wendy's body and it immediately causes an effect. Wendy suddenly feels herself getting stronger as the Ice Dragon's power seeps into her body. Ben knows that bathing in Dragons' blood can increase Dragon Slayers' power a lot, but he never did it even with Acnologia's blood because he has a more effective method.
He lets Wendy does it though because he wants her to feel the reward of her hard work. Ariel & Gabriel who contributed to slaying this Ice Dragon also receives some power, although it's not as high as Wendy's increase of power. The others don't get it though because they aren't Dragon Slayers.
Even so, they are still very happy because they succeed to slay a Dragon by themselves. This victory has boosted their confidence a lot and Ben still has something to boost that confidence even further. After this, he's sure they will be very eager to hunt the Dragons.
Ben approaches the Ice Dragon's dead body and puts his hands on it. The young Mages stop their celebration and look at Ben to know what he'll do. A lot of black magic letters suddenly come out of Ben's hand and cover the dead Ice Dragon's body.
The dead Ice Dragon's body suddenly glows very brightly before it gets smaller and smaller. When Ben is done, a bluish-white lacrima ball appears in his hand. It's an Ice Dragon Lacrima that Ben made using the dead Ice Dragon's body.
After that, they immediately go back to the lab to do what Ben has planned, create more Dragon Slayers. He will transplant the Ice Dragon Lacrima into one of the young Mages' bodies. The young man that will get it has learned Ice Magic from Ben in the last month, so he has the basics already.
This is the reason Ben taught them new magic in the last month. He wanted to turn them into Dragon Slayers using the Dragon Lacrimas he creates using the Dragons they defeat. Ben has searched the Dragons that stay on Ishgar and he has planned the targets for this first plan.
Their targets are the Dragons in Ishgar that have the most powerful magic. They are weak now because of injuries, but the qualities of their magic won't change. Ben needs these young Mages to get strong fast, so they will need magic from powerful Dragons.
Even though normal Dragons' magic can be powerful at the hands of talented Mages, their starts will be different. Powerful Dragon Slayer Magic will give them better starts. That's exactly what they need because they need to grow fast.
With Ben's assistance, the Ice Dragon Lacrima's transplant finishes fast and safely. The young man immediately feels the effect of his Ice Dragon Lacrima. He feels like he has learned Ice Magic for years even though it has just been a month because of how deep his connection to Ice Magic is now.
"You still need to familiarize yourself with it. I don't want you to lose control and hurt your friends in battles. Now go to the training room and try your new magic. We will attack a Dragon again in 2 days, so make sure you make it work fast."
"Yes!"
The young man immediately goes to the training room while the others rest. Those who don't have Dragon Slayer Magic yet are quite excited now. But they aren't that eager yet because they haven't seen the result of this plan.
They change their mind in 2 days when they fight another Dragon. The boy with Ice Dragon Slayer Magic really gets a lot more powerful now with his new Ice Dragon Slayer Magic. He is still not as powerful as Ariel, Gabriel, and Wendy, but he has gotten more powerful than before simply by getting an Ice Dragon Lacrima transplant.
