Chapter 10: The Grind (2)

Chapter 10: The Grind (2)

~Silva POV~

Squandering around I finally found the time researching Magic Power the one to show force by using the pressure of it into reality so to speak. Searching through the Fairy Tail library I found the book containing the introductions for it.

Magic is the physical embodiment of the spirit. When the physical spirit of an organism connects with the spiritual flow of nature, the spirit forms Magic as a product of the connection.

Though Magic goes beyond reason, it is still born of reason and takes enormous concentration and mental ability to use it. One's Magical Powers are also tied to one's life force. Only ten percent of the world's population is able to use Magic, which is noted to keep a balance between ordinary people and those with Magic.

According to famous Mages at the time, one's strength of feelings plays an important part in one's ability to properly use Magic.

To utilize Magic, a Mage must use the Magic Power in their body, which is composed of Ethernano, the source of Magic Power for all Mages. Every Mage has a container of Ethernano inside their body that determines the limits of their Magic Power.

In the case that it becomes empty, Ethernano will come from the atmosphere and enter the Mage's body and, after a while, their Magic Power shall return to normal.

To which I can see why the Magic Power or skills from this world differs or rather is incompatible with me. It's simply because the idea was made in mind that this is only for people with containers of their origins.

But in my case, I don't have one but allow my own Gate to filter the Mana or in this case Ethernano in the air into my soul and bodily system through whatever entry into my body adapting to the changes happening within me.

It would explain as to why whenever I try to use Mana, I feel like my nerves is on fire each time I try to channel my new Magic Power as it feels like I'm burning up or heating up from within my Gate.

This makes in some ways sense from the books I read that one can also train their own Nervous System and Wisdom for Magic, where the former becomes a vessel for Magic Power, a way to increase it.

Though this would leave some Mages to neglect their physical training, being vulnerable to those with superior physical abilities, apart from certain exceptions of others.

As Magic is tied to a being's life force, complete or at least near deprivation of one's Magic can be detrimental to the Mage's health unless medical actions are performed. Likewise, too much Magic Power can also be dangerous in an underdeveloped body.

Hmm…

This passage could also be interpreted for me the other way. With no magic for me suddenly introduced into my system trying to adapt to my new power of Mana in my developed body is more akin to poisoning myself doing so.

Furthermore, exposure to highly concentrated levels of Magic energy can also be toxic to any living creature which could be the case with me as well. Although there's no concrete proof it's something to consider carefully.

*THUD*

Closing the books of Magical Theories and Fundamentals of Magic I could only sigh pinching the bridge of my nose at the information, "Sigh… there's too many unknown variables to consider learning or obtaining magic. Perhaps I should find myself using Holder Magic Items for a time till I can find a way, to obtain Magic for myself."

I shouldn't go overboard losing hope yet at learning Magic. At the very least till I have some skills under my belt before I try although maybe I should go for an easy job…

*Fwp*

Flipping over the books I went over the history of combats section that the guild has for anything related to melee combat.

Melee combat is a fighting style that, as the name itself suggests, revolves around close-range confrontation, with users assaulting opponents physically.

Widespread around Fiore, this form of combat can be employed by normal people and Mages alike.

While the latter ones were described as lacking the ability to fight at close range due to their time being devoted to studying Magic, some Mages are in fact shown to be fearsome melee fighters, even specializing in such form of combat.

Magic itself can be a valuable asset when engaging foes in close quarters, with many forms of Magic being focused around, melee combat.

But currently as I can't use Magic for the time being the next best step is look up armed combat that suits me.

Armed combat is the one I was looking for the most. Armed combat, as the name itself suggests, revolves around the usage of weapons, which users employ against their opponents at close range.

A variety of melee tools is commonly utilized throughout Fiore, with swords, coming in different shapes and sizes among which are longswords, katanas, sabers, and rapiers, being the most common ones, and with other weapons being daggers, spears, staves, axes, whips, scythes, guan dao, war hammers and kanabo.

Due to swords being the most popular weapons, Swordsmanship is a known discipline, with swordsmen found throughout the Kingdom possessing various levels of mastery. Most forms of swordplay, similar to most forms of unarmed combat, aren't properly classified as specific fighting styles.

Searching around for a few sword styles around the guild I found a few to my liking that I would need to perfect in my own time preparing my growth ahead of me.

Mugetsu-Style and Style of the Undrawn Long Sword.

Those two on mainly physical attacks I can use and perfect over time as grabbed hold of them seeing pop-ups making me smirk seeing it appear.

[Ding!]

[You obtained the skill book 'Mugetsu-Style.' Would you like to learn this skill?]

[Ding!]

[You obtained the skill book 'Style of the Undrawn Long Sword.' Would you like to learn this skill?]

Clicking on yes for both of them they break down into light particles entering my body as I immediately feel the principle behind them like a beginner.

Along with that came new notifications along with new skills obtained from taking the two skill books gaining new skills in the process.

[Ding!]

[You have unlocked the passive skill <Mugetsu-Style>!]

[Ding!]

[You have unlocked the passive skill <Style of the Undrawn Long Sword>!]

[Ding!]

[You have unlocked the Mastery skill <Sword Mastery>!]

I could only smirk reading the pop-ups getting these sword styles while only passive could be incredibly deadly once I have gotten them into master-level feats.

I may not have magic to start with, but I'll compensate for it with skills instead. There's more than one way to become strong.

Skill List.

----

<Mugetsu-Style> (Passive) Lv. 1/100 Exp: 0.0%

Description: A sword art that specializes in very quick slashes using a Magic Sword, as well as delivering precise strikes such as cutting and throwing cards down the middle. The precision is perfect enough to slice a body's inner nerves without damaging the clothes or flesh.

Attacks from this style are strong enough to cut through virtually anything, even spatial divides between pocket dimensions as well as deflect powerful shockwaves. The user's sword is also capable of generating fire and causing a massive explosion.

-Passively increases the SEN by 1%

-Increase Sword speed by 1%

<Style of the Undrawn Long Sword> (Passive) Lv. 1/100 Exp: 0.0%

Description: A style of swordsmanship involving the use of a sheathed blade. While technically not exposing the weapon's blade, users of this style have been shown capable of slicing foes as if they were wielding an unsheathed sword.

The stances assumed in the performance of this form are vaguely reminiscent of those typical to Iaido, where the swordsmen wield the sheath of their sword with one hand, and rest the other on the hilt.

-Increase Sword damage by 1%

-Passively increases AGI by 1%

<Sword Mastery> (Passive) Lv.1/100 Exp: 7.0%

Description: The skill of the blade and the ability to Cut things through all that stand before them. Can you master the path of a true swordsman?

-Increase Sword Damage by 1%

-Increase Sword speed by 1%

----

I couldn't help but grin at these skills I'm getting these skills would be beneficial in the long run of things.

But still, this is a start I need to start focusing on creating them. Another thing I should focus on controlling my Mana as soon as possible unless I want to be left out.

Now the only thing left to do now is start grinding right away but then again issue with money comes back to me since I'm in need of funds to support myself and the only way how is to earn it.

Hmm…

/////

After contemplating for a while, I deiced to actually train to gain some skills instead before going off doing a quest.

Hence the reason I'm in the outside forest area is to train my Mana Manipulation and to avoid any serious damage against anyone around here as well as train some sword skills in the process.

Now then…

Taking control of the Mana around me and inside my body I began to channel it through my nervous system steadily as I felt the heat coming from them as I grit my teeth feeling the pain, but it was less intense than before.

Guessing the theory of training one's own nervous system as the Magic Theories also provided the means to give out explanations that are within reason. One of them suggests that surrounding yourself with a highly dense concentration of Ethernano helps the nervous system build up a kind of resistance to it and adapt.

Of course, there were multiple unknown factors at play like having Mages on standby to make it possible but for me though I merely tried to make some guesswork about it. Simply just do it and let my abilities do the work.

And with my abilities as [THE GAMER], it would allow me to increase that potential to the max possibly reaching a point where I can best anyone… except for that Dragon Acnologia maybe considering that thing absorbed being in a crack in between time and space.

Taking time to focus I motion towards my Mana circulating through my body feeling my Nerves heating up from every part of my body as I involuntary close one of my eyes as the other is having a hard time staying open from the heat of Mana passing through my body.

Bloody hell this fucking hurts and sucks!!

Now I see why I couldn't simply use Magic right away…

My control over my own Mana is shit.

I kept on pressure though because I began to focus my Mana surrounding me as I began to put the idea of coating myself around my body to increase my body endurance, speed, strength, and much more.

*Shiii*

A shiny light blue color began to appear through my arms like circuits passing through my body but –

*Poof*

Exhaling through my mouth and stopping my focus from having my whole nerves tired or fried I stopped myself as I spoke out again, "Fuck… I feel like I was boiling alive. But for just a second I felt the increase. I need to continue."

I could only narrow my eyes trying again to feel my Mana as I circulated it again my body after a brief time to rest providing benefits in the process of doing everything I can to try to create this skill into reality.

I kept on focusing until I see the skill pop up and I'm not returning back until I managed to do just that. Doing everything in my power to surpass everyone the best I knew how no matter what the end lies for me.

Taking this time, I began to practice my breathing at the same time doing these both for a few more hours till I get to see the skills I get from them in the process.

Just keep on the grind.
