Checking the loot

"Let's decide after Saturday, maybe the job will give me enough money to visit some courses at a studio.", he decided while finishing the cleaning of his floor.

Now the only thing left was the backpack lying beside his bed. It also meant that now it was time for his favorite thing, checking the loot. And considering the look of the backpack, there seemed to be a lot of it.

The first thing he pulled out was a bundle of three iron rods. This was then followed by a packet of five Goblin Leathers and 10 Goblin Steaks. These were the steaks left after eating some of them during the floor exploration itself.

Below this was a layer, consisting of eight rocks, which was then followed by an assortment of smaller things.

Three Energy Pills, which he directly swallowed, followed by two Material Pills, which too found their way down his throat. This had been the highest amount of pills he had gotten during a run, easily making it the most profitable floor yet.

Besides the pills, there were also some new things. He picked up one of the items at the bottom of his bag.

[[ Item: Goblin Fang

Grade: 1F

Type: Material

The fang of a goblin that has been soaked by the blood of its prey.

]]

The description was short and didn't supply much information. But as soon as it was displayed, it was followed by a much more interesting notification.

[[ Quest: Research is the foundation of any crafter

Type: Research

Description: To be a true crafter it is necessary to be able to research new materials and find out their use. You can't just rely on blueprints.

Task: Find 0/3 uses of the material 'Goblin Fang' in crafting

Reward: 1 Achievement points, 1 random research tool

]]

This was only the second quest Ivan had gotten, so he carefully read through it. In conclusion, this seemed to be a quest connected to the PSS but not directly linked. After all, it rewarded Achievement points but didn't mention the PSS.

He also wasn't that interested in the Achievement point, since he wouldn't be able to use them anytime soon. Instead, the random research tool piqued his interest much more. The only tool from the system that he knew was the NAT, which was extremely useful, not only for crafting but also for analyzing unknown substances. So how would a System approved research tool look like?

Without hesitation, Ivan made the quest his priority, although he was sure that it wasn't easy to complete it.

But first, he had to check out the last thing inside his backpack. He didn't know where he had found it but it was different from anything else he had found. All his other loot had either been parts of the goblins, or pills but this was something that didn't fit in any of these categories. Instead, it seemed completely unnatural.

Not that pills weren't unnatural. But even though they were wrapped in plastic wrap they were at least found hidden on the floor of the caves. As if someone had dropped them there and they hadn't be found after.

But this item had been dropped after he had killed a goblin and he was sure that it wasn't a part of the goblin nor had been carried by it. After all which goblin went around wearing a dress. They wear at most a loincloth.

He carefully took out the dress. Although he never would wear something like this, after all, he was a self-respecting male, it should still be worth a lot if he sold it.

[[ Equipment: Simple Gboblin Leather Dress

Grade: 1F

A simple dress made of dyed goblin leather. It provides some defenses and is highly resistant to dirt and tear.

]]

This was the short description of the long black dress.

"I'm sure many would love to buy this.", Ivan murmured to himself while taking a closer look at the dress. He didn't have a lot of experience with woman clothes, not to mention high-grade dresses, but to him, the dress looked beautiful in its simplicity. Not to mention, that the texture of it seemed to be great and should feel comfortable.

"I really need a way to sell equipment.", he came back to his old problem.

But even though he couldn't make use of the dress at the moment, it could inspire him. "I should make some clothes out of the leather I have.", he voiced out his idea. After all, he was sitting on a stack of Goblin Leather and he also had the NAT so he should be able to make some clothes out of the leather.

He didn't know how good the result would be, but he was sure that it was better to wear it for a dungeon run, than the cheap clothes he owned. At least they should be more durable.

Before implementing this idea he had to first do some research because he had never made clothes before.

But first, there was something else to research.

After stowing away his loot, he took one of the Goblin Fangs and put it inside the NAT. He then selected the scan mode and tried to analyze the fang.

[[ Scan: Goblin Fang

Base Material: 1 Goblin Fang Ivory

Special Material: 1 Blood Essence Crystal Powder

]]

The scan result was simple and showed that the fang consisted of two materials. The ivory was expected, while the Blood Essence Crystal Powder was a bit unexpected but it was easy for Ivan to guess that it had to do with the 'soaked by the blood of its prey', mentioned in the fang's description.

"Hm, since there are two materials can I just use them separately for the quest?", he wondered. If that was the case, couldn't he just make something with the complete fang, something with the ivory, and something with the Blood Essence Crystal Powder?

Determined to find out, he pressed the extract button of the NAT and waited for his energy to be siphoned up.

Soon he was rewarded with the notification, that the two materials had been extracted and could now be retrieved.

When he opened the NAT he found the Goblin Fang as well as a small vial of red powder. The fang had only become slightly whiter but nothing else seemed to have changed.

"Now what should I make?", he wondered while playing with the Goblin Fang Ivory. It felt very smooth and comfortable to the touch. "What is usually made out of ivory? Jewelry? Statues?", he wondered.

"Wouldn't that be a waste?", he felt reluctant to make something which only looked pretty out of this ivory. After all, he had fought hard to acquire it. "Let's check online."

As usual, his solution to such a question was to use his phone to check online. And as usual, he found something.

During the cold weapon age, ivory had often been used for the grip of a weapon but one fang was too small for it to be a viable option. Besides, he didn't see how it could improve the grip of his knives.

He also found out that in the past ivory had been used for all kinds of everyday objects such as bowls.

"With its size can I really only use it for jewelry?", he wondered. Any other use he had found would require a larger piece of ivory.

He continued playing with the fang until his eyes fell on his backpack when he suddenly got an idea.

"Right, I can craft buttons out of it." If he had to make something not very useful out of the ivory he might as well use it to make buttons for his Goblin Leather jacket.

"Maybe I can find other ways of combining it with Goblin Leather.", after the first idea, more were coming. "This seems to be quite hard."

He wondered how the fang would hold up against a goblin claw. Sadly he didn't have a claw to test it out. But he had some knives so why not use the rest of it for testing since it wasn't possible to use the whole fang to make buttons. The end was just too pointed, if he made buttons out of it then they would be too small or too pointed to be useful.

First, he put back the ivory into the NAT and then opened the manual tool.

Already used to the interface and operation of the NAT, he quickly started to split the ivory fang into thin slices of about 5 millimeters. Since he was doing it with the help of the NAT he could split it on an atom level, creating perfectly smooth surfaces.

The first slice had a rough surface on one end, while the following three were smooth on both sides. He separated these slices from the rest of the fang and created four holes in them, which could later be used to attach them.

After doing so he finished the process.
