18 Choose a Zombie to be your Waifu!
Bewilderment consumed Haru as he stared at the System's Interface that had suddenly materialized before him. In mere seconds, it bombarded him with so much information that he couldn't grasp what was happening.
One moment, he was torn between the agony of choosing between stopping Aki or being with her even if it meant death. Then very next second, his dormant system awoke and assigned him a quest of some sort. The abruptness of the situation left his mind spinning, struggling to make sense of it all.
Before he could process or act on anything, a voice reached his ears.
["My My My, what are you stupidly thinking, Host? We don't have much time left."]
"Who is there!?" Haru jolted upright upon hearing the mature, unknown yet oddly familiar female voice in his ear. He scanned the classroom warily, searching for the source of the voice, but found no one.
'Am I... finally going crazy?' Haru questioned himself as his hollow eyes were mixed with disbelief.
["I don't know about the crazy part, but you do seem stupid to me, Host."]
Hearing the same voice again, Haru couldn't help but believe that he wasn't hearing things and asked warily, "Who... are you?"
["My, are you really asking me that? Gosh! Why did I get stuck with someone this stupid! Don't tell me you haven't read any manga or novels about 'Systems', Host? Wait. Cross that, I will just call you stupid instead!"]
The word 'System' triggered something in Haru's mind. His eyes widened as he asked, "What? You mean you are my system? But I haven't heard anything about Systems speaking like this from the others!"
["Obviously, you wouldn't hear it from them, Stupid. I am a Unique, Smart, Prettiest... wait, you can't see me... Anyhow! I am different from their low-tier Systems! Humph! You should be honored that I, a Highest Being, chose you to be my host. But I am starting to doubt my decision considering how stupid and clueless you are, even after I provided a way to save your poor girlfriend-"]
"Wait!!!" Haru's hollow eyes lit up as he heard her last word and asked, "You can save Aki!?"
["Ha... As I expected, you still are clueless, huh? I considered your situation and gave you the best Class suited for you yet you are still asking me for the answer?"]
"!!" As he joined the pieces together, Haru's thoughts went to the System's interface, which had indicated something about his class and the Quest.
With a focused mind, he willed the system to appear, and instantly, it materialized in front of his eyes, revealing the information he had been searching for.

"Are you playing with me?" Haru asked as a tinge of anger rose within him when he read about his class and all his hopes were dashed in an instant. He didn't want a Zombie-Lover relationship with Zombified Aki; he wanted to cure her.
["What do you mean? I thought you wanted to save your girlfriend."]
"Can't you understand? I do not want her to become a mindless Zombie!!!" He shouted in frustration, biting his lips in helplessness.
["Oh? I thought you loved her so much that you wouldn't mind her being a Zombie. Tsk Tsk Tsk, you have one chance to save her yet you don't want to."]
Hearing her response, Haru erupted, "She wouldn't be the same after becoming a Zombie!!"
["Do you even know what you are saying? Unlike the other Zombies who are just moving on their instincts to fulfill their stomachs, she will retain her soul and consciousness if you accept her as your Waifu. She would be different from them."]
"W-What do you mean? It can save her?" Haru asked.
["What I am saying is that only her race would change, but ultimately she will be the same as she was before."]
"!!" A realization hit him as he considered the possibility that he could save Aki.
Despite his doubts, he couldn't help but become hopeful as he turned his head toward unconscious Aki, whose blackened wound had covered her whole neck, indicating that she could wake up as a zombie at any time.
'Aki...' Along with hope, there was fear of what might happen to her or her reaction upon finding out that he, without her permission, had done something like that to her, even though she was his step-sister.
Sensing his emotions, his System, asked, ["So, what are you going to do? Save her or leave her? And one more thing, decide now because in the next thirty seconds, she will turn and you won't be able to save her then."]
What? Why didn't you tell me earlier?!" Haru panicked upon hearing the remaining time.
Knowing this was the only way left for him to save her, Haru set aside his worries and doubts, urgently asking, "No, just tell me! What do I do to save her!?"
["This is why I called you stupid. Anyways, it's simple, just open a wound on your hand and offer the blood to her, thinking about choosing her as your Waifu and let me handle the rest."]
'Aki!! Please!! I want to save her!!' As his System suggested, Haru quickly bit his right hand and opened a big wound from which blood leaked out.
The process hurt him a little, but he did not care, as his attention was focused on saving Aki.
Just as he willed, the System's interface popped up.

Just as he wished, a massive golden magical circle formed around them, radiating beautiful lights with mysterious symbols shining within it. In that enchanting moment, a magical golden-red thread ascended from their chests, forming a knot together before vanishing within a few seconds.
'Is it done?' Haru thought as he moved closer to Aki, but what happened next shook his heart.
As Haru approached her, Aki's head slowly turned up and met his eyes. But unlike what he expected, Aki's eyes shone in a deep crimson color.
"A-Aki?"
