Evolution of the Last Nyre

This is the story of a 30 year old dead beat who unexpectedly dies. He's given a new shot at life but something doesn't feel right...wait HE'S A MONSTER! Our mc is one who seeks power but he wasn't always like that. Sphar (correct pronunciation is s-far) is an ancient forgotten monster called a Nyre, which is quite similar to a bat. He's gifted a system and completely abuses its power like all mc's do. This story is very slowly paced as I don't want to rush it. Time skips won't happen too often and if they do it won't be for long. His greatest desire is to explore the world, or at least it was..., but escaping his home will be a bit more tricky than he thought. Luckily his species is perfect for covert operations. Let the adventure begin! Authors note- I'm an inexperienced writer and I'm only doing this for fun. The story has a very slow start and the chapters are only 1.3k to 1.5k words long. I don't plan on locking chapters ever but if you want to support me, gifts are greatly appreciated. My release time will be a complete mess as this is only a hobby but I hope you enjoy the story. Btw the cover art is not mine, if you own it and want me to change it please don't hesitate to ask. You can contact me on Insta, my user is Bandit_Candit

"How did you do that?!" I exclaimed, quite surprised she just summoned a weapon in her hand, much like my system could do.

"Its thanks to my spatial magic bag. They're extremely rare since they're hard to make. You have to be a rank 6 Light mage to enchant an item with spatial assets." She explained.

"It cost 500 gold?!" I exclaimed once again. 'This lady is full of surprises.' I thought. "Yes, and you're training would've cost 25 gold but thanks to the institute's backing you only need to pay them 2 gold. You don't understand how well you have it being here." She grumbled.

'She must've gotten the short end of the stick in her early life.' I thought. "So what kind of training are we going to do today?" I asked while sticking the handle of my scythe in the ground.

'Ill need to buy some sort of holster or rope to hold this thing. Carrying it all the time will get annoying fast.' I thought.

"Today I'll just explain the advantages and disadvantages of using that weapon and how to take care of it." She replied before closing her eyes and hopping back on her own weapon.

I listened closely as I didn't intend to waste the opportunity the Institute had given me. Not only did I get in for free based on reccomendation, but I also get a huge discount on practically everything.

She explained that a scythe is a weapon that focuses purely on offense and completely lacks defense, and since it requires two hands to wield properly, you can't compensate it's shortcomings with a shield.

However, it's offensive capabilities are plentiful so if you're a mage, the most logical weapon would be one of pure offense since your magic can be your defense, unless you get an element with little defense capabilities.

She further explained that the scythe can be used as a good counter weapon as well as disarming one. The large curve in the blade is hard to correctly block which usually puts the enemy into an unbalanced form.

You can slide the blade down to the hilt of the enemies weapon and disarm them pretty easily. You can also attack behind an enemy while being infront of them with the large reach and curve of the weapon.

This puts enemies at a disadvantage if they can't close the distance and magic further compliments this. However, if the enemy wields a weapon such as a rapier or bow, thats when you'll be at a disadvantage. You'll have to maneuver out of those attacks without the use of your weapon.

The lesson continued until the hour was finally up. "That was a lot to take in" I said while examining the weapon I'd be using from now on. She added a lot more info on how to use a scythe in the most advantageous way.

"I'll be back tomorrow to start drilling basic maneuvers in you. Those wings of yours will be a big help." She while putting her scythe in her spatial bag and walkung away. 'Im going to sell these old weapons back to the blacksmith since I'm free now.' I thought.

"But what the hell do I do with this big ass scythe!!" I yelled in anger. It was hard and awkward to carry without any holster. I decided to just lean it on my shoulder and ask the blacksmith to make something to help me with it.

"Hey, I'm back." I said as I walked into the hot room where the familiar sound of metal banging on medal resided. "Ah, if it isn't my broke customer. What can I do for you?" He asked before dipping the blade in water.

"I came back to sell these things back to you and to make some sort of holster for my new weapon" I said while placing it on the ground and handing over my old weapons.

"I'll make a convenient way to carry that thing for 5 silver, and I'll buy back those scythes of yours for 10. Sound good?" He asked.

I wasn't allowed to sell institute made weapons to other sources since students get them for so cheap, it would be a loophole for students to easily make money.

"Sure thing." I replied. He handed me 5 silver coins which I added with the rest in my inventory, putting me closer to my first gold piece.

"Come back tomorrow and I'll have it made. Until then, you can leave it here so I can make the dimensions correctly." He told me before picking it up and examining it.

"You sure have a strange preference for weapons kid." He added before setting it against the wall and getting back to his work.

I left the institute and headed to the adventurers guild to pick up an easy F rank quest to pass the time and finally hit level 18.

I picked up a slime subjugation quest and slowly left the city. 'I wonder how those three are getting along" I thought while exiting the gate. I walked over to the slime area and started stabbing the pathetic things.

I could easily pick up where their cores were nowadays from all the experience I had from killing them. After I finished the quest, I got my systems rewards and finally hit my mark.

[LEVEL UP]

Stats have been increased accordingly. you've received 4 attribute points and 1 skill point.

"Huh, the message was different this time." I said aloud as I lay down on the grass to let the time pass until Corey, Lily, and Laori got back.

[It would be more efficient that way]

'Man, it's been ages since my system has responded to me' I chuckled as a slime rolled into my foot before bouncing away.

'Now would be a good time to allocate all of the skill points and attribute points I've been piling up over the past couple days.'

'Stats'

[STATS]

Name: Sphar (Rank 1 Basic Mage)

Species: Half-Life Nyre (2nd Evolution)

Level: 18 (13/11,213)

Hp: 460/460 (+85)

Stamina: 110/113

Mana: 340/340 (+100)

Strength- 95[+]

Agility- 122[+] (+42)

Dexterity- 105[+] (+25)

Intelligence- 95[+]

Vitality- 105[+] (+10)

Attribute Points: 18

Condition: Bored/anticipant

These were my stats without my new weapon equipped. I put 5 attribute points into both agility and dexterity once again in hopes to catch up with my vitality and strength without equipment on.

This left me with 8 points, which I kept for another time. I checked my skills page and I currently had 17 skill points from all of the quests I had been doing from the guild.

"That's enough to rank up all of my magic skills to 10!" I screamed as I sat up from the excitement. I quickly started tapping the plus symbol beside all of my skills and once the first skill hit level 10, my system responded.

[You've reached the requirements to advance your class.]

I quickly leveled up my other 3 skills to level ten, which only left me with 1 skill point. Then pulled up my evolution/class menu and sure enough there were 3 options for me to choose from.

[Wizard] A class branching from mage, it excels in intelligence and magical power, but lacks mana as well as every other aspect of battle. It has a large range of magic skills to use but prohibits combat skills.

[Rogue Magician] A class branching from mage, it focuses on combining the aspects of a physical fighter with that of a mage. It limits magic abilities but encourages combat skills.

[Vul Mage] A class branching from mage, it has a moderate amount of intelligence and a moderate amount of mana. It allows a lot of freedom within a mage's fighting style but lacks overwhelming power and prohibits combat skills.

As useful as the other two classes seemed, I still stuck with with wanting to fight both physically and magically. I choose Phantom Mage and another screen popped up infront of me.

[All stats have been increased by 10 and will increase by 2 more, except for intelligence, which will increase by 4 more. Mana will increase by 10 more while stamina increases by 5 more. Hp will remain the same in increase. A new branch of skills have been unlocked for your elements.

Hp +100, Stamina +50, Mana +100]

'This is great!' I thought inwardly as I once again pulled up my skills page. There were 4 greyed out skills but my system said I could only unlock 2 of them. It did say I could also learn combat skills though so that was a huge plus.

'I wonder which class Corey got.'
