Evolution of the Last Nyre

This is the story of a 30 year old dead beat who unexpectedly dies. He's given a new shot at life but something doesn't feel right...wait HE'S A MONSTER! Our mc is one who seeks power but he wasn't always like that. Sphar (correct pronunciation is s-far) is an ancient forgotten monster called a Nyre, which is quite similar to a bat. He's gifted a system and completely abuses its power like all mc's do. This story is very slowly paced as I don't want to rush it. Time skips won't happen too often and if they do it won't be for long. His greatest desire is to explore the world, or at least it was..., but escaping his home will be a bit more tricky than he thought. Luckily his species is perfect for covert operations. Let the adventure begin! Authors note- I'm an inexperienced writer and I'm only doing this for fun. The story has a very slow start and the chapters are only 1.3k to 1.5k words long. I don't plan on locking chapters ever but if you want to support me, gifts are greatly appreciated. My release time will be a complete mess as this is only a hobby but I hope you enjoy the story. Btw the cover art is not mine, if you own it and want me to change it please don't hesitate to ask. You can contact me on Insta, my user is Bandit_Candit

- E Ranked Expedition 4 (unedited)

"WAKE UP YOU TWO! IT'S TIME FOR A BOSS FIGHT!" I screamed. I didn't sleep last night either, I spent my time killing the few remaining boars in the dungeon and practicing my scythsmanship which continued to prove difficult due to their small size and odd shape.

"ah~ what time is it?" Lily half moaned while stretching. 'How can she always sleep for so long?' I thought while watching her get out of the tent.

"Early enough to finish our final quest and get all of our silver at the guild." I replied while watching Corey follow behind Lily out of the tent.

"OH YEAH!" Corey screamed, obviously getting pumped since he remembered we were fighting the boss today. "I think today is the day I rank up! I can feel it!" He said while swiping his hand around in the air.

"I'll congratulate you when we take down that boss, now get ready, were heading out as soon as the sun peaks over the top of the trees." With those words I flew to the top of a tree and relaxed.

'Those two should be busy preparing for a while, let's check the good old stats and skills Menu's!' I thought while wrapping the scythe chains around the tree limb, letting the two blades dangle down towards the earth.

I was nearing my exp requirment for level 18, though I still didn't have enough skill points to rank up my mage class yet. My next evolution wasn't until level 25, so I still had a while until I made any real advancements.

'Man, I'm really hitting an exp curve with these F and E ranked dungeons. But I can't regularly travel to D ranked dungeons until I hit that rank in the adventurers guild. It's proving harder than I thought to rank up.' I was stuck in a predicament once again.

I could take my time and work my way up in the adventurers guild which would give me invaluable connections and a good standing in society as well as a steady income, or I could abandon my schooling and pursue strong dungeons far away.

It's good to note the stronger the dungeon, the harder they are to come by. Thankfully most every dungeon B rank and down has been found on this continent, or at least thats what I was told by some adventurers at the guild.

Also, the higher ranked the dungeon, the bigger they are. C and B ranked dungeons can be several miles in diameter and include minibosses. Some high ranked dungeons even house intelligent monsters that have built up their own society, though those are quite rare.

Basically, the higher the rank of the dungeon, the more possibilities are opened up for unexpected situations. D rank and down is considered to be an average adventurers strength. C rank are considered veterans, and anything above that is regarded as truly powerful.

B rank is rare, but with the high human population count, there are tens of thousands of them scattered accross the world. A rank is where the game truly changes. There are thought to be only a couple thousand A rank adventurers around the globe, but thats not counting evil organizations or people who arent registered as an adventurer.

After A tier, there's S. This is considered to be the level of the gods, with the number of S rank adventurers being able to be counted on both hands, it is truly a feat to reach this level of power. For humans, there is no rank higher than S, but the adventurers have told tells of S rank adventurers struggling to defeat dragons and other legendary monsters.

That only proves that their is a league above S, but if it's even possible to reach that level is another story. 'I couldn't imagine how much exp it would take to reach that league, but with my system, I think I can do it. It may take me a few years, but it's not impossible!' I thought.

I started day dreaming about how powerful I could be one day and finally being able to extract my revenge. 'I wonder what rank those three adventurers would be labeled as. I didn't get to see them properly display their power, but they mentioned they were adventurers the king of this country often relied on.

I can safely assume they are at least A rank. I wouldn't be surprised if they all were S rank, but why would the king send a group of potential S rank adventurers to wipe out a group of Nyre? Even if we do have magic, we weren't really all that powerful. There's a lot of crucial information I'm missing here to make any logical conclusions without also making any rash assumptions.'

"Sphar, we're ready!" Lily yelled into the sky. 'Oh yeah, I was caught up in my thoughts for a while wasn't I?' I thought while jumping out of the tree and gliding to the ground. After a quick discussion of our battle plan, we left the camp in search of the boss.

Well, it wasn't much of a search actually. We just had to walk straight forward into the dungeon. "We're here. Take out your weapons and on my mark, we'll execute our plan. Remember, you two will be doing most of the work. I'm just here to make sure nothing goes wrong."

I examined our surroundings and confirmed there weren't any outlying mobs that could interfere in our fight. "Now!" I yelled while charging out of the bushes. I threw my scythe as hard as I could at the beast, gashing it right in the forehead and attracting its attention.

I flew up high into the air and landed on a tree branch, by this time Corey and Lily had ran out and started to execute the plan. Corey raised up a lot of walls facing spontaneous directions all around the clearing that the boss claimed as it's own. The two split up and hid behind seperate walls, confusing the stupid boar.

'So far so good. Keep it up you two.' I continued to observe their fight. To summarize our plan, Corey would supply cover for the two with earth walls while they slowly chip away at the boss's hp with coreys poison dart and their physical weapons. Lily would land fast attacks and retreat and make sure Corey was safe.

She would cast her vitality boost on him whenever he needed it, and they continued this process for nearly an hour. If the boss broke a wall, the dust and rubble would still be plenty of cover to get away and ambush it again. 'Alright, I think it's about time I ended this.' I thought while jumping down from my tree.

"Alright, retreat you two! you've done enough, I'll handle it from here." I yelled as the two retreated to several earth walls behind me. Once I confirmed their safety, I couldn't help but get excited to toy with the boss for a bit.

By this point it was completely exhausted and had small wounds covering nearly every inch of it's body. I cast after image and electric field as the boss charged at me, breaking several earth walls along the way. I commanded my after image to distract the boar for a bit and make it crash into as many walls as possible.

I charged behind the boss as soon as it was completely focused on my after image. 'EXTREME SPEED!' I yelled inwardly, everything seemingly freezing in place. I charged at the boss and started unleashing as many dark slashes and regular strikes as I could on its back, making sure the essence I got back went into my stamina to continue my assault.

Before my ten seconds ended, there was a fatal wound bigger than me covering the boss's back as well as many cuts from the attacks that missed their mark. It halted it's charge and slid across the ground for a few feet, stopping when it hit another earth wall.

I got behind my after image and charged at its face. 'It must be paralyzed.' Were the last thoughts I would have about this boar while it was still living. I made my clone attack it before dissipating into thin air, but before the boar could be confused, I was already in the place of where I was supposed to be a moment ago.

I swung both of my scythes through its face, finally finishing it off.
