Evolution of the Last Nyre

This is the story of a 30 year old dead beat who unexpectedly dies. He's given a new shot at life but something doesn't feel right...wait HE'S A MONSTER! Our mc is one who seeks power but he wasn't always like that. Sphar (correct pronunciation is s-far) is an ancient forgotten monster called a Nyre, which is quite similar to a bat. He's gifted a system and completely abuses its power like all mc's do. This story is very slowly paced as I don't want to rush it. Time skips won't happen too often and if they do it won't be for long. His greatest desire is to explore the world, or at least it was..., but escaping his home will be a bit more tricky than he thought. Luckily his species is perfect for covert operations. Let the adventure begin! Authors note- I'm an inexperienced writer and I'm only doing this for fun. The story has a very slow start and the chapters are only 1.3k to 1.5k words long. I don't plan on locking chapters ever but if you want to support me, gifts are greatly appreciated. My release time will be a complete mess as this is only a hobby but I hope you enjoy the story. Btw the cover art is not mine, if you own it and want me to change it please don't hesitate to ask. You can contact me on Insta, my user is Bandit_Candit

The sun rose just above the tip of the trees, revealing its light and a new day. Corey had already gotten up and started stretching his muscles. Lily, however, was still sound asleep even though she went to bed first.

"Lily, get up. We have some Boar Slaying to do." I said while pushing on her shoulder, trying to bring her out of her dreams. "Wha" Was all she said as she sat up. She blankly stared at the ground for a bit before wiping the trail of saliva from her cheek.

She lifted her arms and stretched her back and shoulders while yawning before finally realizing that I was sitting right beside her the entire time. She immediately blushed and looked down.

I could only smile and leave the tent to give her some privacy. "Hey Corey, I saw a stream not too far from here when I was scouting yesterday, wanna go wash up?" I asked him. We hadn't brought extra clothes to change in and out of so we all smelled a little musty.

"Yeah, I'm down! Some cold water should wake me up no problem." He quickly agreed while walking over towards me. "Lily, we're going to the river to wash off. Are you fine with staying in the camp alone until we get back? I'll show you the way later." I yelled just loud enough for it to be considered a yell but not annoyingly obnoxious.

"I'll be fine. You two have fun." She replied with the least confident voice I've ever heard. 'She must still be embarrassed. Hopefully, she will recover before we return.' With those thoughts, Corey and I left the camp.

We only walked for about five minutes before coming across a river about 10 feet wide and 4 feet deep. Corey wasted no time and immediately stripped butt naked and jumped in. 'What a wild man. I can't leave him hanging!' I quickly joined him, making sure to fly in the air to make a bigger splash than he did after quickly undressing.

After conversating in a river naked together, which was surprisingly fun and not the least bit as awkward as one might think, we got out and sat on the grass together. 'I guess people don't care to be naked in this world. Or maybe Corey is just a nut job.' I thought while looking at his long black hair.

It gave off such a feminine yet manly vibe. Like he has a soft spot that he won't ever show. 'Maybe I should grow my hair out like that too. I'll pass. I'll just be stealing his style.' After the warm rays of the sun dried us off for the most part while we sat on the cold grass, we put our clothes on and walked back to the camp.

Thankfully, Lily was out of the tent and sitting next to a tree tossing around her dagger. "Hey Lily, you want me to show you the way to the river?" I asked her while Corey started practicing swinging with his staff.

"Yes, please. I stink." She quickly responded while making a revolted look on her face. I walked her abt 2 minutes into the woods then pointed in the direction of the river. I was only going to walk her this far, since any farther would be kinda weird.

She thanked me and continued on her way. I joined back up with Corey and had a little sparring match without using any skills or magic abilities. He beat me pretty bad. His staff was the perfect counter for my weapon and my poor technique only put me at a bigger disadvantage. My speed and strength at the moment aren't enough to overwhelm someone with skills like his.

After Lily finally returned, we all double-checked our gear and departed the camp. "So today, we're just focusing on killing normal boars, right? I'm not sure if I'm ready to tale on the boss." Lily whispered while we were walking through the woods.

"You don't need to whisper, these boars behave strangely when they sense a presence much stronger than themselves. They all gather together in the middle of the dungeon where the boss is." I told her while holding out my hand in a halt motion.

"Do you two hear that?" I asked in a very serious tone. My ears were constantly twitching, trying to pinpoint the exact location where the sound was coming from. "I don't hear anything," Corey said. Lily quickly agreed before I hushed them once more. After a few more seconds of odd silence for Corey and Lily, I quickly understood the situation.

"Someone is in trouble. We need to help. Now." I said before quickly sprinting forward. Lily and Corey were astonished by my strange actions for a few moments before regaining their composure. They tried their best to keep up with me but just couldn't and I wasn't planning on waiting for them either.

I cast [Extreme Speed] and darted forward at breakneck speed before quickly breaking the woodline and coming to an open area. There were around 20 boars and one man who stood alone against them all. He was heavily injured as he had bruises and open gashes covering the majority of his body.

He was gritting his teeth, trying his best to keep a steady grip on his huge double-handed buster sword that was as big as him. He had long and elegant white hair and was wearing a black turtle neck long sleeve shirt that was covered in dirt and holes. He had baggy sweat pants on that were a grey color that matched his shirt well.

His black boots were in rough shape as one of them had been nearly ripped clean off his foot. His sword was covered in many cuts and small dents, probably from shielding from the many boars that had surrounded him. 'I'm the one that scared the boars in his direction. I have to help him.'

All these thoughts and examining happened within a second as everything seemed to slow down when using [Extreme Speed]. I quickly unsheathed my scythes and started rapidly cutting and slashing through as many boars as I could before my time was up.

Blood was painting the sky as I mercilessly slaughtered everything in sight. No boar was left alive. I had effectively killed them all before my skill effect wore off, making all the blood that was slowly floating in the air splash all over the surroundings. The man that was struggling just to stand earlier looked at me with an intense expression before fainting.

I caught him before he could hit the floor and hoisted him on my back. By this time Corey and Lily had finally caught up and see all the dead boars. "Did you-" But before Corey could finish his question I cut him off. "You can ask questions later. Grab his sword for me. Lily, gather all the items that dropped." I said in a tone a bit more serious than I intended.

We brought the man back to our poorly constructed camp and laid him in the tent. after having Lily tend to his wounds to her best ability. We kept his clothes on him for dignity's sake despite them being torn apart and covered in blood and dirt. We laid his huge sword against a tree that wasn't too far from the tent.

We ended up getting two hides and 4 tusks from the boars. "I'm sorry for killing such a large portion of the boars in the dungeon. This was supposed to be good training for you two." I said while putting the items in a big pouch we brought with us.

"Don't worry about it. We both would've done the same thing in your shoes, right Lily?" Corey said while turning his head towards Lily who had a worried look on her face. "Without a doubt." She let out in a confident tone.

'Hopefully he will wake up soon. I don't want to waste our whole weekend tending to a stranger, but I have to take responsibility.'

I have a couple chapters written that I never released before getting locked out of my account. I have lost interest in the story but ill still release them for those who care. the writing will be rough and some things might not make sense since I never fully finished them.
