The Reroute
Daniel arrived at Chief Tenpenny's office ,after getting a call from him.
He always has this great admiration for Chief Tenpenny's taste and class.
The office has this vivid old school feel to it, with photos and accolades hanging from every corner of the office. It intrigues Daniel and also serves as a constant reminder of how great chief tenpenny is.
"Have a seat" chief tenpenny said to Daniel while looking out the window. There's this staid tense air that fills the room,Daniel knows for sure this is business.
"The last case was a job well done. Accolades for that." He said, still looking outside.
"And I know your convention, we all know your convention "
"But this situation at hand is behind reach".
"I Don't understand Chief," a befuddled Daniel asked. Daniel has seen Chief Tenpenny in a happy state, angry state, sad state, but he doesn't understand or know where this conversation is heading to.
But one thing is certain, it's not going to be pleasant news.
Chief Tenpenny turned around to face Daniel.
He looked at Daniel dejected, he knew Daniel is not going to go well with the news.
"Here" He dropped a file on his desk.
"We have two weeks to solve this case,The FBI wants us on this,and I need you upfront", He said as he loosened his tie,the froth in the office was really getting to him. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the sweat from his face.
Feeling a little bit comfortable,chief tenpenny sat down.
With Daniel going through the file ,he went on.
"This is going to be huge for us, we need every resource.In this case all hands on deck. And I want you leading the investigation"
He paused for a while and lit his cigarette.
Daniel watched as the smoke danced in the air in its own swaying pattern, surrendering to the control of air.
"The murder of Mr Opera Gotze, the founder of Glow Growth Organization,An organization involved in Agro genectic engineering and food development, He was found dead today in his suite" Chief Tenpenny said still burning his cigarette leisurely.
"Any suspects?" Daniel asked, still scanning the file.
Chief Tenpenny dropped another file on the desk. "Of course we do," he answered. He knew this is the news Daniel won't be pleased with.
"Ann Davidson" He said looking at Daniel.
"Ann Davidson?" A bewildered Daniel asked. Chief Tenpenny nodded in affirmation
"But sir,you know I don't investigate any female suspects or convicts. That's my sole rule,"Daniel said to chief Tenpenny, still shocked by the revelation.
Chief Tenpenny took one final pull on and put the cigarette out. He leaned forward to Daniel.
"Grierson I know, but like I said earlier this is out of my reach. I have no say on this" He said to Daniel and leaned back to his chair.
"That's all for now,"
"Yes sir " Daniel answered, sounding so volatile, he could now really feel the froth in the office. He got so hot all of a sudden.The Once stern air that filled the room became solemn, he could see the walls closing on him. He felt shallow,his greatest nightmare finally staring him in the face.
"I wished I had stayed at home"
He thought to himself, wishing he could time travel, he would have gone back to the morning and called in sick, so he can get the day off,and spend the time looking at the wonder of nature in great awe and listen to the singing of the birds and the sound of the sea will be so soothing he will sleep forever.
"Who am I kidding?" He thought to himself,
"The bustle never ends"
He took the files and headed towards the door.
How come this happened, he thought to himself.
"Hey Grierson" chief Tenpenny called after Daniel and paused for some seconds and he lit another cigarette, he took a pull on and gently exhaled.
"Be your best out there" He finally said.
"Yes sir" Daniel answered and walked out.
He got to his office tired and very confused, he sat on his arm chair with his hands on his head. Reminiscing about the just past event, it still seemed like a dream to him.
How fast joy could crumble with just a word.
He stared at the file on his desk
"Ann Davidson" He thought to himself.
