CHAPTER 04: Bittersweet
After that incident, a month passed by and Felisse found herself a company. Vmiel was the only person who earned her trust. He provided her a shelter, the one who helped her with her financial needs and someone who never left her side and made her feel safe. He took her under his comfort and she doesn't have to be scared anymore for she found a chance. As for Felisse, Vmiel became the person who lit up the way for her to continue living in this world full of despair. She won't be alone anymore, rather, lost.
Everything is going to normal, Vmiel visits her from time to time just to reassure her and also, to be sure himself that she's doing fine each day that passes. He took charge of bringing Felisse to the hospital for weekly check up's, they would thoroughly follow what the doctor advices them to do for the sake of the baby's health. Vmiel took good care of her ever since they knew that Felisse carries a life in her womb.
One random day, Felisse woke up early and cooked breakfast. Just doing her daily routine. She decided to visit Vmiel and come over his house, bring him his favorite dish, tempura. She felt so excited that she wore her favorite fancy dress embroided with crimson red silk and tied her hair into a bun. Felisse was looking amazing, completely dressed and she's not wearing too much make up, enough to show her natural beauty. This day was different, Vmiel was usually the one who would normally visit her but now, it's her turn. Aside from a normal visit, the thought of telling Vmiel that she's already falling for him would make this day a lot more special. Yes, a confession. She wanted to confess her feelings towards him before it's too late, she has decided that he's the person she wanted to live her life with.
A short glance at her wrist watch reminded her the current time, it's already 8:30 in the morning. She's finally arrived to his house, right in front of his door and all she has to do is to knock and once she's inside, she must keep everything smoothly, don't rush and tell him what she truly feel for him. She recited in her head the way she want to deliver her words. She felt nervous and she can feel the butterflies in her stomach going crazy. Felisse took a deep breath and exhaled, relaxing herself and as she did, she knocked on the door. She tapped her foot on the ground anxiously while waiting for the door to open. A woman who's fixing her hair, opened the door and greeted her. A gut feeling suddenly hit her, this is bad. "O-oh, hi!" She can hear Vmiel from inside so she abruptly asked the woman while giving her a sharp glance. "Who are you? What are you doing here?". Vmiel heard a familiar voice so he immediately went outside just to see his pregnant friend, Felisse. He then hugged her and uttered "Elisse! Glad you came this early and good thing you're able to catch up on her." He broke the hug shortly before introducing the woman in front of Felisse. "Monice, meet Felisse she's my friend. The one that I always talk about, do you remember? And Felisse, meet Monice she's my FIAN..CE..." the last word, for some reason, slowed down. Felisse can hear the word echoing in her head and pain pierced her heart. She snapped back to reality and blinked twice in disbelief "F-Fiance? Vmiel.. how about us? am I a joke to you?" She asked him without hesitation as if she was sure, making Vmiel and his fiance confused. "W-wait what? Lisse, there was nothing between us, I only stayed on your side coz... I'm your friend, right?? That's all." Vmiel explained sincerely but It seems like Felisse became numb. She shook her head and wiped the tears that's falling down to her cheeks. She left the two and run straight to the road without noticing the bus coming up. "FELISSE!!!!!" a loud crash and the voice of Vmiel shouting her name was the last sound she can heard before everything turned to pitch black. Everything got engulfed by darkness.
"I'm sorry Felisse, I didn't mean to hurt you. I should have known. I'm sorry for letting you down like this, I'm so sorry." Vmiel's cries were the first things she heard as she returned to her consciousness. "M-Miel?.." She slowly opened her eyes and roamed her sight around, scanning the room. "I'm sorry.. Lisse I didn't know that you felt that way, forgive me." He cried while holding her hand, gently. Felisse held his hand weakly then chuckled bitterly. "I should've known that you're just toying with me." She said sarcastically with her raspy voice from waking up. Vmiel stared at her eyes confusedly. "Toyed you? F-Felisse I never told you that I have feelings for you. You are my friend and it is my responsibility to take a good care of you coz no one did—" Vmiel never had the chance to continue as Felisse interrupted him. "SHUT UP! YOU KNOW NOTHING, NOW LEAVE ME ALONE!" She let go of his hand and faced the other side of the bed, crying. The guy was against her belief but he didn't fought her back and decided to leave the place. A quick blink, Felisse felt loneliness hugged her once again. Always been left by everyone. The only person she loved, toyed and used her. She started crying while thinking about everything she went through. "Am I that bad? Why do I always have to be alone? WHY!!?!" she cried her heart out until she heard the door opened. A nurse who was carrying a baby came in and greeted Felisse with a warm smile. She gently handed her the baby. "Congratulations ma'am.. You're in a very bad state when you're brought here earlier and we had to perform an operation. We're glad to tell you that the operation was successful and the baby's perfectly safe and healthy. She's a girl." The nurse explained as she looked at the both of them, dearly. Felisse dried her eyes. Watching her child closely and she felt... happy. She took glimpse of the living nightmare she thought the child would be but instead, she was shone a gleam of hope. She was gifted a daughter and became the reason why she has to live and survive. Again. "Michelle.. I'll name her Michelle Elizabeth." She softly traced her daughter's nose using the pad of her finger then kissed her forehead. "I love you" she whispered as a lone tear dripped from her eye, expressing her affection that she felt towards her kid. Her angel. She wasn't expecting to feel this kind of joy not until her daughter gave her another chance to be happy with or without help of anybody. The void in her heart was finally being filled with love again, the love that she lost from anyone.
