6 Hidden Quest: Rat Exterminator

[You have activated Fireball.]

[Fireball inflicted Burn to Mutated Rat.]

I instantly threw a fireball at the rat that pounced on me. It dropped to the ground squeaking in pain, heh, serves you right, who said to you to attack me?

Without being distracted I waited for the other one, suddenly it started to move more faster and agile as it approached me. It was probably using its scurry skill.

But your 6 agility is nothing in front of me! You damn rat!

It circles around me in a triangle motion waiting for the right moment to strike. I pretended to leave an open spot and it pounced right into my head as it got the bait. Using the Toxic Pounce from the start, huh?

I defended it with my right arm, and it suddenly opened its mouth and bit my right forearm.

Crack!

The sound of something breaking echoed. I smirked seeing its painful expression. Who wouldn't prepare anything for the upcoming apocalypse?

I was wearing a metal suit to cover my both arms from wrist to biceps. And as I thought its teeth couldn't pierce through my 'armor' and shattered in the process.

[Mutated Rat 1]

HP: 45/50

I checked its health and quickly sliced its head.

Splurt!

Afraid of blood touching I instantly jumped backward.

[Mutated Rat 1]

HP: 10/50

Huh? It didn't die yet? Despite its neck being pierced through.

The dagger also started to show a little resistance.

While thinking I threw another fireball at the Rat 1. Maybe it was already dying, but I wouldn't leave it alone until I heard a notification. And soon I did.

[You have killed a Mutated Rat.]

[You have gained 6 XP.]

Oh, 6? That's like in the game. So, my guess was right.

Then I turned toward the other one and checked its health.

[Mutated Rat 2]

[43/50]

I think Fireball only dealt 10 damage while the rest was because of the Burn.

Then I waited for another 40 seconds to use the Fireball. That's why I hate cooldowns. Wait till I max out the skill!

Then I immediately fired another Fireball at the Rat 2.

[You have activated Fireball]

A small ball of flame appeared on my hands before...

[Ding!]

[Due to insufficient Mana, the skill has been canceled.]

...disappearing.

Huh, my mana went past 10? I forgot about it, huh?

Before checking my status, let's finish this rat with my dagger.

I cautiously approached the rat and threw my dagger when I was in a comfortable radius for my aim.

[You have activated the Dagger Throw]

[The piercing damage increased by 5%.]

The dagger pierced through the chest area and took its 30 HP.

"Squeak!" Guess, having high stats and abilities always helps in the game, huh?

I then opened up my status. "Status Open."

[Status]

Name: Leo

Race: Human

Class: None

Level: 1

XP: 15/100

HP: 100/100

MP: 09/75

Strength: 7 Agility: 10

Dexterity: 10 Intelligence: 15 (10+5)

Wisdom: 15 (10+5) Constitution: 8

Charisma: 7 Luck: 10

Skills: Stealth Lv2 | Fireball Lv1 | Dagger Throw Lv1

Passive: Odor Resistance Lv1

Huh? Only 15 XP after all of this fighting? Well, anyway at least I'm safe. That's the most important thing.

My MP is only 5. I need to wait whole five minutes to fill it up. I waited for a few seconds until it was 10 and shot a fireball at the Mutated Rat which was struggling to move.

[You have killed a Mutated Rat]

[You have gained 5 XP]

So, I got 20 XP now. To level up to 2, I need to kill another 16 Mutated Rats. That's so frustrating. In the game leveling up was also one of the hard challengers. But it was the hardest for me since I always choose weaker and easier opponents to fight.

And here I am, in real life too fighting weak rats. I wonder if those three already leveled up twice at least. Given 'his' character, a copy of my little bro, he should appear in the rankings from tomorrow.

[You have gained 2 Gold Coins.]

Huh? Did my luck finally activate? Although only 2, it is still good to earn money.

[Ding!]

[You have activated a hidden quest: Rat Exterminator]

Ah, hidden quest? Out of nowhere?

Then the quest window appeared.

[Quest description: Rats are pests that infest the train station. They are dangerous and annoying. They also carry diseases and parasites that can harm humans and animals. You have to kill them and clear the station from their presence.]

[Quest objectives:

Find their nest

Kill 30 rats

Kill 12 mutated rats

Kill 1 rat king]

[Quest rewards:

100 XP

10 stat points

1 skill point

1 random item]

[Do you accept this quest? Y/N]

Huh? Rat Exterminator? Ah, right! This is how my luck works! I often used to trigger hidden quests in my last life too. But the risks would be always high, so I would only accept them if there were no penalties or any risk to my life.

I always laugh whenever I remember I rejected the fifties of hidden quests because of it, hahaha!

Ok. Let's be serious. I decided to change this time. Even though I have to do one thing.

"Tell me the penalties."

[Ding!]

[If you fail or abandon this quest, you will receive a penalty of:

-50 XP

-5 stat points

-1 skill point]

"..."

"..."

Are you kidding me? Isn't this telling me it is more risky?

"No, I won't accept-"

[If you accept this quest, you will receive a map of the train station that shows the exact safe route and where the basement is. The map will also show the locations and numbers of the rats, mutated rats, and rat king. The map will update as you progress through the quest.]

"Huh? A map?" A surprised sound escaped from my mouth.

How could I not be surprised? After all, the system was offering help. It was as if the system wanted me to accept it. I'm suspecting that it gained consciousness like in those novels. That would be bad, no, the worst.

Or... was it she who gave me the mission? OOOH! Stop, stop. Let's calm down. I need to think straight.

Although it will be much easier if receive the map, still... It sounds risky...

But I promised to change... But I can do nothing if I die too...

Urgh... It is frustrating...

Then, after a moment of internal struggle, I told my final decision.

"Sorry, I will not accept this quest..."
