Reconstruction Chamber Or Hell

Humans like animals have what is called intuition also known as a gut feeling which can be life-saving if the human population listened to it. Unfortunately, this group of people ignored this gut feeling when they first entered through the doors of Star Horizon, when they signed the contract and now when they retired into the rooms provided to them.

Even their dinner closely resembled the last supper with a variety of delicacies and fine liquor. For one night they feasted like royalty but none of them stopped to think 'isn't this a little too generous?'

That is apart from Jin Lin and his best friend. They knew something was up but brazenly jumped into the fire with no hesitation. This is what they had been looking forward to for five years. Though admittedly things hadn't gone the way they initially thought but the goal was the same.

Jin Lin was a little anxious as he lay on the bed. It was this anxiety that made him unable to fall asleep. For half the night he tossed and turned his mind wide awake like it was during the day.

Frustrated, he lay on his back facing the ceiling. The room was dark with the only source of light coming from the dim lights plastered on the wall a few inches above the floor. Just when he began to count sheep, there was a sudden clicking sound. Curious, he turned to his side to check the floor.

What he saw startled him. The floor was covered in a thick odourless mist. He panicked on instinct as his heartbeat suddenly quickened. If it weren't that he wanted to be here so he would have put up a fight.

He lay back down resigning to his fate. Jin Lin regulated his breathing as a wave of drowsiness overcame him. As he gradually fell into deep slumber the camera in his room suddenly moved to zoom in on his face.

A few floors over, a man stood in front of the gigantic screen seeming rather disappointed. His red eye shone in the ill-lit room as he slid his hand inside his pocket. It was none other than Du She who was feeding his sadistic urges as he watched the mist fill up Jin Lin's room.

"How disappointing..... I thought he would fight like a dying dog," he said as he watched two men in hazmat suits drag the boy away.

"Tsk," he said as he changed to another feed, "You see? This is how it's supposed to be done. Worth watching."

He was referring to Ming Wei who played the part of a suffocating victim as soon as he noticed the mist in his room. "That's how it's supposed to be done..... hahaha..... damn, nice one," he added when one of the men wearing the hazmat suit was punched in the jaw by Ming Wei. They had to tase him before the sedative took effect.

"Sir, Professor Z just sent a message. Jin Lin is already strapped in," said Du She's assistant.

An eerie smile crept up his face before he abruptly turned around to leave. This was what he had been looking forward to for the entire night and it was finally happening.

As soon as he reached the fourth floor underground, he found his uncle and his research assistant standing outside a dome-shaped structure with several machines and displays attached to it. This interesting looking machine was anything but a good. Professor Z named it the reconstruction chamber but a better way to describe it would be hell.

The only way one could thrive in Equino was being subjected to hellish torture with their bodies torn at a cellular level. Their DNA strands would be manipulated by introducing foreign DNA from god knows where all in the name of awakening one's power.

This torture device in the hands of scientists would be used to advance research but in the hands of a sadistic person like Du She, it was like a toy to feed his dark urges.

He entered the chamber and swaggered over to the unconscious person strapped to the platform. "It would be better if we do this while he is awake," said Du She staring at Jin Lin like eyeing prey.

"You know that subjects can't be awake otherwise they would be as good as dead," replied professor Z tapping something on the complicated display.

Du She ignored him as lowered his head while eyeing Jin Lin's face with a piercing gaze. He took off his mask exposing a deformed face with the scar on his eye extending towards his cheek ending at the corner of his lip. Such a severe wound must have been painful to leave a nasty scar like that on a handsome face.

"Your brother did this to me," he said in a menacing voice with his red iris shining under the luminous light, "so it's only fair that I kill you..... Or, maybe I will just kill you in front of him..... not that he will care."

Du She's gaze lingered for a while before he decided on a better method to screw with Jin Chen's brother. "Turn it to max from the start. Whether he lives or dies... it's up to chance," he said walking out of the reconstruction chamber.

The professor didn't seem to have a problem with it. He turned everything on max with no second thought. The boy's brother was the only person who survived this mode but this wasn't hereditary but luck. He hoped Jin Lin's luck was as good as Jin Chen's otherwise he would turn into a bloated corpse the second the machine was turned on.

The room suddenly fell silent with the only sound coming from the devil's tool. Sets of automated syringes began to inject a clear substance into Jin Lin's body at the same time. Normally the patient would be injected with one at a time determining the limits the person's body can take so as not to kill them.

The vents would then be opened exposing the subject to Equino's atmospheric conditions putting stress on the body. The humane way would be gradual increase instead of exposing the person to higher atmospheric pressure in one go. Since Jin Lin was being offered special treatment, it meant he would be subjected to Equino's atmospheric conditions all at once.

Under heavy sedation, there is a high likelihood that a patient wouldn't be able to feel a thing but that is under normal circumstances but Jin Lin's situation was the least bit normal. This meant he suddenly opened his eyes out of the blue as he felt a searing fire coursing through his veins.

His vision was blurred from all the pain but he could see red vines creeping up his body accompanied by excruciating pain. He let out an ear-piercing scream as the entire room was suddenly filled with red dust with the temperature in the room rising sharply. It seemed he was dangling right at death's door but he had no interest in meeting the grim reaper tonight.
