In which Evelyn reclaims her father

"No I'm right here," the words escaped my mouth before I could stop them. Now that everyone was looking my direction I felt afraid and awkward. I didn't really even know how I knew Ender was my dad, but somehow it just seemed right. One more memory put back in place. I came completely out from hiding and stared into Ender's face.

Disbelief. Joy. Suspicion and then sadness flashed across his face.

"Evelyn," his voice was broken by all the emotion. He started to raise a hand but stopped. "Come here." He said gently. It took a lot of my courage to walk toward him. I felt Hera's uncertainty like an electrical current. Ender closed the distance with a short step. We both looked at each other, then he put his hands on my shoulders. "Is it really you Evelyn?"

"I think so," I said quietly. My uncertainty seemed to confuse him.

"Do you remember me?"

I wanted to say I did, but I didn't. I shook my head, "its all an empty void."

He let go of my shoulders and stepped back. "You look just like my daughter did."

"I am you're daughter I know that." I smiled a tiny bit.

He looked away from me to Hera and Hero. "How did this happen?"

"We're not sure." Hera said, cutting off Herobrine who'd started to say something. "She appeared a week or two ago."

"She appeared when Evelyn died." Ender shook his head in disbelief. He looked back at me, for the first time their was a tiny bit of happiness in his face. "I don't understand it at all Evelyn. I lost you on earth, but somehow you're here again." He paused, "perhaps this is my chance Evelyn to make it all right again. But where is your little sister?"

That didn't quite make sense, I had a sister? I couldn't remember her well, it was blurry. Some time ago I'd been with a girl, a girl with orange hair, who had tried to kill me. I'd have to ask Hera about it. But for Ender I just shook my head.

"Maybe she's out there too," he laughed a bit, it was a loud and sharp laugh.

I dared peek at Hera and Hero. I noticed Hera's face creased in concentration, her grip on Hero's arm no longer seemed friendly. More frightening was Herobrine's face. it was very empty of emotion. Hera saw me looking and for a second let up on her effort, Hero jerked forward.

"We'll leave you two," she said in a strained voice. "Stay here with Ender, Evelyn." I heard a certain amount of alarm in her voice. She turned around dragging Herobrine with her.

What was that all about?

Ender didn't notice any of this. He remained looking stunned, but a new emotion was growing in. Tears started on his cheeks. "I had thought I'd lost you Evelyn." He choked a bit as he spoke, "all these years without you."

"I don't remember," I said.

"Your mother's name was Penny, she was bright and beautiful. We fall in love young, and in result had you."

I couldn't remember my mother at all. That made me sad.

"You look more like me, but your sister got your mother's hair."

"What happened?"

"I got a busy job, someone needed to support us financially, that's what I told myself when the hours were long." He laughed again, but it was half hearted, "but I took longer and longer hours, my jobs were further and further away. I barely even was home. Sometimes I didn't bother coming at all."

I imagined all of this, and even though I couldn't picture her, I felt sad for my mother.

"Eventually I moved out of the house. You're mother didn't want to live with a ghost. That's what she told me. At some point I took a vacation and your mother ended up pregnant again. I told her it'd be different this time." He shook his head sadly, "but then I got a job at Mojang, the pay and experience was amazing I told your mother that it was the job I'd wanted all this time. We fought terribly, and by the end I left again. I only met your sister Mina once."

Mina... Somewhere in my mind I knew her.

"I always said I'd take another long holiday, spend time with my girls. But every time there was one more major project. And finally I was ready for a holiday and then I got the news.... You and Mina had died." He started to cry harder, "all that time I wasted..."

"I'm here though, I'm here now."

"I know, I know." He said he wiped his eyes.

"I didn't kill Steve dad," I said carefully.

EnderSpark paused, as if he hadn't connected EvelynEnder to his daughter Evelyn. I saw conflicted emotions cross his face but at last he said, "I knew you wouldn't Evelyn, you were always kind."

"Then help us." I said a level desperation entered my voice, "tell Notch the truth."

"It's not that easy." Ender sighed, "despite everything Notch did love Steve. Now that he's dead Notch is reacting, I don't think he'd believe you're innocent he just wants to blame someone."

I considered this inform then a crazy idea came into my head, "then we have to bring Steve back."
