Concerned for the survival of the pearl egg, Zethus decided to summon it through the jewel source and nurture it within him. He feared that Atasha's human body, which was only sustained by his blood at that time, might not be able to support the pearl egg. Leading him to shoulder the responsibility of its nourishment. 

It was the actual reason why the vast energy of a nine-streak bijou like him was rapidly depleted, as he was using it to nourish the pearl egg in secret while openly feeding the girl with his blood.

Atasha, however, remained oblivious about this matter. She attributed Zethus' weakening state to her consumption of his blood, unaware of the real reason behind it.
